Abstract

Educational supervision is a strategic instrument for improving the quality of education in schools. This study aims to analyse various practices in the implementation of educational supervision and its impact on school quality enhancement based on a literature review. The method used is a systematic literature study of scientific articles, research reports, and policy documents that are certainly relevant to educational supervision and improving school quality. The findings show that effective educational supervision is characterized by a collaborative approach, a focus on improving teacher competence, and support from responsive school leadership and policies. Supervision that is carried out consistently and professionally has been proven to contribute positively to the quality of learning processes, teacher performance, and the development of a quality culture within schools. However, challenges remain, including limited supervisory competencies, a lack of continuous training, and teacher resistance to the supervision process. This review recommends strengthening a supervision system based on coaching and reflection, as well as improving human resource capacity as key efforts to achieve sustainable educational quality.

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between students’ reading motivation and their reading ability at SMK IT Al-Izhar Pekanbaru. A quantitative correlational research design was employed. The study involved a population of 41 first-year vocational high schools students, selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a validate 30-item motivation questionnaire (α = .894) and a 20-item reading test on narrative and descriptive texts (KR-20 = .860). The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis in IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results revealed a moderate, positive, and statistically significant relationship between the two variables (r = 0.363, p < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. Moreover, motivation accounted for 40.45% of the variance in reading scores. The study provides empirical evidence for a substantive link between motivational factors and reading ability, supporting the principles of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and highlighting the importance of fostering motivational strategies in English language teaching at vocational high schools.

Abstract

Mastery of English language competence is a demand for non-English study program students. The purpose of this study is to determine the problems of learning English as ESP (English for specific purpose) in the development of teaching materials for students. This research methodology uses qualitative through systematic literature review. The results of this study are problematic in English learning of ESP are the Lecturers  face difficulties in developing ESP materials that are in accordance with student needs and the obstacle  of obtaining ESP textbooks which relevant to work field of students. Solutions to overcome the problem of learning special English (ESP) in students in the Digital Revolution era involve industry-relevant curricula, the use of digital technology, interactive and contextual content, collaboration with industry,  Soft skills development, Project-based learning, comprehensive evaluation, a student-centered approach, and psychological and technical support for students who need it.

Abstract

This study examined the impact of principal supervision and teacher training on the pedagogical competence of educators at State Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through surveys administered to teachers across several institutions. The findings reveal that both principal supervision and teacher training exert a significant and positive influence on teachers’ pedagogical competence. Principals’ supervisory practices, when carried out systematically through guidance, feedback, and evaluation, play a pivotal role in enhancing instructional quality. Similarly, targeted and continuous professional training programs equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to contemporary pedagogical demands, including technology integration and innovative teaching methodologies. The results underscore a synergistic relationship between supervision and training, with statistical analyses indicating that these variables, both independently and collectively, contribute substantially to the development of pedagogical competence. Teachers who receive consistent supervisory support and participate in relevant training demonstrate improved capabilities in lesson planning, classroom management, student assessment, and instructional delivery. These findings highlight the importance of institutional strategies that prioritize sustained supervisory engagement and structured teacher development initiatives as critical pathways for improving teaching effectiveness and educational quality within the madrasah system.

Abstract

bstract : The purpose of this study was to determine the English Departmentstudents’ perception on watching English movies in relation to listening activities atUniversitas Riau. This investigation used quantitative method. The data was gathered byquestionnaires. The researcher analyzed the data using SPSS. The sample for this study116 students from class A, B, and C batch 2021 who took post intermediate listening &speaking classes at English Department, Universitas Riau. The result of this study showed that English Department student at Universitas Riau have a good and positive perception on watching English movies in relation to listening activities.Key words: Perception, English Movies, Listening.

Abstract

The background of this study emphasizes Instagram as a digital platform where EFL students are able to use it in order to enrich their vocabulary mastery. Due to that situation, this research aims to find out the EFL students’ perceptions in vocabulary mastery through Instagram. This study applied mixed method with explanatory sequential design. In collecting the data, the researcher used close-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview. This research involved 75 EFL students at English Department, FKIP, Universitas Riau class 2022. Among those EFL students, 6 students were chosen to be the interviewees. The finding showed the average mean score of all indicators was 3.65 (medium level). It can be inferred that the participants presented positive perceptions about vocabulary mastery on Instagram. They seemed to be using Instagram often and felt the content of Instagram is interesting which made them feel more motivated to learn vocabulary. With the help of Instagram, EFL students comprehend more about pronunciation, verbs, prepositions, and hyponyms because Instagram provides many contents about them.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the perceptions of the third-year students of the English Department Universitas Riau in using the Webtoon application to enrich English vocabulary. This research used a quantitative descriptive method approach and involved 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered via a Likert-scale-based questionnaire distributed via WhatsApp. The findings showed a generally positive perception among students concerning the Webtoon application's usefulness, ease of use, and attitude toward using. This can be seen from the questionnaire's mean score, which reached 4.04, involving perceived usefulness (3.87), perceived ease of use (4.15), and attitude towards using (4.10). This research also found that most Webtoon application users are females, who tend to have more positive perceptions than males. In addition, students who used the free version and those who spent more time using the application showed better perceptions of vocabulary enrichment than those who used the paid version. In conclusion, third-year students of the English Department Universitas Riau positively perceive using the Webtoon application for vocabulary enrichment. They find it accessible, easy to use, and effective in enhancing their vocabulary and confidence in English through its engaging visual and narrative features.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara input pendidikan dan manajemen supervisi dalam upaya meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di tingkat sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan dilaksanakan di dua sekolah dengan karakteristik berbeda, yaitu SMP Negeri 26 Pekanbaru dan SMP Negeri Satu Atap Batu Sanggan. Hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan pendidik yang berkualitas, dukungan kelembagaan, serta implementasi kurikulum yang relevan turut berkontribusi terhadap efektivitas proses pembelajaran. Namun, supervisi yang tidak optimal dan tidak dilakukan secara berkelanjutan menjadi hambatan dalam peningkatan kompetensi guru dan pengembangan inovasi pembelajaran. Supervisi yang dirancang secara terstruktur mampu meningkatkan semangat guru jika disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan spesifik sekolah, namun dampaknya cenderung bersifat jangka pendek apabila tidak disertai evaluasi berkesinambungan. Beberapa tantangan utama dalam pelaksanaan supervisi mencakup rendahnya frekuensi pelaksanaan, keterbatasan pelatihan bagi guru, serta tingginya beban kerja. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini merekomendasikan penguatan praktik supervisi yang berorientasi pada pembinaan dan tindak lanjut guna meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran dan daya saing lulusan.

Abstract

Writing Scientific Articles is a writing culture carried out by teachers in improving and as a means of self-development to be more professional. Improving mastery of article writing skills for junior high school teachers must always be done because the teacher's understanding is not optimal. The implementation of the workshop method with the purpose of this activity is how to provide stimulation/ stimulation to teachers so that they can get used to compiling a scientific paper starting from class research. Understanding and steps how in terms of implementing PTK, making PTK reports, and producing PTK-based scientific publications. The implementation of this activity was carried out on September 9, 2022 and took place at SMP Negeri 1 Siak Sri Indrapura which is located at Jalan Suak Lanjut, Suak Lanjut, Siak District, Siak Sri Indrapura Regency, Riau Province.

Abstract

The purpose of this service is to provide understanding and experience about writing scientific journals in the form of articles to high school teachers of Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. It is hoped that with this dedication, all teachers of SMA Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency can carry out journal writing as teachers' scientific work later. The targets of this service are teachers who are constrained by promotion due to the absence of research as their scientific work.The enthusiasm of teachers in participating in these service activities was quite high, question after question submitted to the resource persons was quite active towards the targets of the Journal itself. At the beginning and until the end of the activity for 4 days (32 hours) most of them understand and the motivation to produce the product is quite high. When the exercise of legion no one does not understand, and that sincerity is seen from time to time in both group and classical discussions. At the end of the service activity, each teacher is required to prepare a product in the form of a proposal, consisting of Chapter I Introduction, Chapter II Literature Review and Chapter III Research Methods. and bibliography. Of the 40 teachers, only 10 have submitted articles to be published in the Journal.
