Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in instilling religious and national character values in line with the second principle of Pancasila: humanity that is just and civilized. Character education aims not only to transfer academic knowledge but also to shape students' attitudes and behaviors. However, phenomena such as violence, bullying, and brawls highlight a crisis in character that requires serious attention. Therefore, character education must be a priority and involve schools, parents, and the community. School leadership, particularly spiritual leadership, plays a strategic role in shaping students' character. Spiritual leadership involves applying spiritual values in decision-making and daily interactions, which can strengthen moral and ethical quality in schools. At SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondanglegi, spiritual activities like Morning Spiritual Greetings and group prayers help build character and discipline among students. At SMAK Yos Sudarso Batu, activities such as morning prayers and celebrating major Catholic holidays support students' spiritual development. This research explores how spiritual leadership at both schools motivates teachers and affects performance and character development. Using a qualitative approach with interviews, observations, and documentation studies involving principals, curriculum deputies, and teachers as participants, the research highlights the role of spiritual leadership in motivating and improving teacher performance. At SMAK Yos Sudarso, the new principal implements transformational leadership through open communication and regular training, creating a positive team dynamic. At SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondanglegi, despite leadership changes, the principal ensures that the school's vision is accepted through active communication and workshops, addressing challenges with support and recognition that motivate staff. Religious activities like morning prayers and celebrations strengthen spiritual commitment and work enthusiasm. Emotional support and altruistic culture improve teamwork and dedication. This research confirms that integrating spiritual values, effective communication, and emotional support is essential in creating a high-quality and productive work environment, enhancing staff motivation and performance, and supporting the school's vision and mission.

Abstract

The growing disparity between vocational education and industry standards, particularly in the automotive sector, has prompted the search for innovative training solutions that provide authentic, accessible, and engaging learning environments. This study aims to develop and evaluate a Virtual Reality-based Automotive Workshop integrated into a Massive Open Online Course platform as a means to simulate industry-standard automotive procedures and operational environments. Using a mixed-methods design, the research involved pretest and posttest assessments, structured observations, user perception surveys, and expert validation. Participants consisted of vocational students and trainees who completed interactive VR training modules embedded in a self-paced online course. The instructional model followed the ADDIE development framework, ensuring alignment with pedagogical principles and industry practices. Findings revealed a significant improvement in learners’ technical competencies, as reflected in increased posttest scores and moderate-to-high learning gains. Observational data showed high task completion rates and procedural accuracy, while user responses indicated strong motivation and satisfaction with the VR experience. Expert reviewers confirmed the simulation’s fidelity and relevance to real-world automotive contexts. These results suggest that immersive digital environments can replicate industry-relevant tasks, support procedural mastery, and enhance learner engagement. The integration of VR and online platforms also extends the reach of vocational education, particularly for institutions with limited access to physical workshops. This study contributes to the evolving landscape of digital vocational education by demonstrating how immersive simulations grounded in pedagogical theory can strengthen workforce readiness. The findings support the application of authentic, context-rich learning environments to improve educational outcomes and reduce the skills gap in technical fields.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics of vocational high school (SMK) teachers in Ternate City based on their level of commitment and level of abstraction, to determine appropriate supervisory approaches. Although instructional supervision has been widely examined, studies that map teacher characteristics as a basis for determining supervisory approaches—particularly in the context of vocational education in eastern Indonesia, such as Ternate—remain limited. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach with a sample of 93 vocational high school teachers selected through random sampling. The instrument was adapted from Glickman’s (1981) theoretical framework and has undergone construct validity and reliability testing (Cronbach’s Alpha α = 0.83 and α = 0.80). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings identify four categories of teacher characteristics: teacher dropouts (24%), unfocused workers (28%), analytical observers (21%), and professional teachers (27%). These results indicate that more than half of the teachers have not yet reached the professional category, thus requiring supportive and participatory supervisory approaches. Accordingly, a collaborative supervision approach based on Glickman’s syntax—comprising pre-conference, observation, analysis, post-conference, and post-critique—is recommended as a relevant supervisory strategy. Practically, these findings may serve as a reference for supervisors and school principals in designing differentiated supervision programs aligned with teacher profiles. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on mapping teacher characteristics within the context of vocational education in Indonesia.
