Abstract

Abstract: Artificial intelligence technology has been integrated into educational practices and is considered to have a significant influence in improving the teaching and learning process. Biology is one of the science subjects considered as a complex subject and requires deep understanding. The presence of ChatGPT answers the existing problems by offering personalized explanations, interactive feedback, and structured answer recommendations to improve students' understanding and critical thinking. The application of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT to educational practices has opened up new opportunities to improve learning processes and outcomes. This study explores the effect of using ChatGPT as a pedagogical tool on cognitive engagement and academic achievement of Biology students. This study uses a cross-sectional quantitative survey method with Structural Equation Modeling analysis. The research sample was Biology students consisting of three different batches. The results showed that ChatGPT as a pedagogical tool significantly increased students' cognitive engagement, which then could also mediate its effect on students' academic achievement. In addition, cognitive engagement also has an impact on the formation of Biology students' academic achievement. In general, these findings highlight a good relationship between ChatGPT use, cognitive engagement, and academic achievement, and underline its potential to create a student-centered adaptive learning environment. However, ChatGPT also has some drawbacks, such as over-reliance on technology by students, potential errors in assessment, and inequity related to access to computer devices. This study shows the importance of introducing and using artificial intelligence technology in learning strategies. The results can also provide recommendations for the development of AI in education from a research perspective for educators to make decisions. Further research is needed to explore the relationship in various educational contexts and populations.       Keywords: ChatGPT, cognitive engagement, academic achievement, biology students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of various blended learning models on digital literacy, namely station rotation, lab rotation, and pedati. This study is a true experimental study using a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population included all eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Sengkang. The research sample was taken using random sampling, resulting in four classes, namely VIII.1 as the control class with STAD learning, and three experimental classes: VIII.2 with blended learning station rotation, VIII.3 with blended learning lab rotation, and VIII.4 with blended learning pedati. The instrument used was the students' digital literacy instrument. Data was collected through a digital literacy questionnaire that was given before and after learning. Data analysis was performed using ANCOVA with a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed that the application of blended learning with the station rotation, lab rotation, and pedati models influenced digital literacy. Abstract

The use of digital technology based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now opening up significant opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of learning. With the support of AI, teachers can create engaging, high-quality, and easy-to-understand learning media in a shorter time compared to using conventional digital tools. One AI-based application with great potential in educational media development is GAMMA. This application enables users to create visual media supported by well-structured, detailed, and informative content points. However, knowledge about GAMMA among teachers, particularly teachers in Barru Regency, is still limited. Therefore, this community service program aims to strengthen the capacity of teachers in developing AI-based instructional media. The program was carried out in three main stages: (1) presentation of materials on AI technology and the GAMMA application, (2) hands-on practice in developing instructional media using GAMMA, and (3) a discussion session to reflect on outcomes and challenges. Based on the evaluation results obtained through a questionnaire, the program successfully increased teachers’ knowledge and skills in using the GAMMA application to support more engaging and effective learning processes. In the future, teachers are expected to be better prepared to meet the challenges of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Understanding scientific culture (USC) and developing problem-solving skills (PSS) are important elements in facing complex global challenges in the digital era. This study examines the effects of creativity (CRV), communication (CMN), and digital literacy (DGL) on USC and PSS in biology students at Universitas Negeri Makassar, Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat, and Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika in Indonesia. A cross-sectional quantitative survey approach was used with a structured online questionnaire, and data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The results showed that CRV had a significant direct effect on USC and PSS. CMN also had an effect on USC. However, the direct effect of CMN on PSS was not significant, indicating that its role in improving problem-solving skills was mediated by USC. In contrast, DGL showed a weaker direct effect on PSS and USC, indicating a less dominant role than creativity and communication. These findings emphasize the importance of a synergistic educational approach that integrates CRV, CMN, and DGL to support USC and PSS. Emphasis on creativity as a transformative tool and communication as a collaborative medium in scientific contexts is highly recommended, while DGL needs to be further developed to effectively complement these competencies. Future research needs to explore these relationships in different contexts to refine educational strategies and address evolving challenges.
