Abstract

This study aims to analyze the business development strategies of Royal Konveksi & Production, a Muslim fashion convection enterprise, to improve sales performance in Medan City. This research addresses the gap in understanding how SMEs in the Muslim fashion sector can formulate sustainable strategies amid increasing competition and digital transformation. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of business activities and stakeholder perspectives. SWOT analysis is applied to systematically identify the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Findings reveal that Royal Konveksi’s strengths include high-quality products, affordable pricing, over nine years of operational experience, and strong institutional trust. Weaknesses involve dependence on institutional orders, reliance on certain suppliers, and limited logistics partnerships. Opportunities exist in growing demand for Muslim apparel, supportive government policies, and digitalization trends, whereas threats stem from intense market competition and fluctuating raw material prices. Recommended strategies include optimizing digital marketing, diversifying product lines, expanding retail channels, and enhancing cooperation with suppliers and logistics partners. This study contributes both theoretically and practically by providing a framework for sustainable business development strategies in the Muslim fashion sector, serving as a reference for SMEs and offering insights for academic research on SME growth and strategic management.

Abstract

This study examines stakeholder perspectives on the mandatory halal certification requirement for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in North Sumatra, which will take effect in 2026. The core issue explored is how this obligation presents both opportunities and challenges in enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs. The study aims to identify barriers, solutions, and cross-sector collaborations in the implementation of halal certification. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with informants from government bodies, academia, and SME assistance institutions. The findings indicate that halal certification contributes to increased consumer trust and strengthens SME competitiveness. However, significant challenges remain, including high certification costs, complex procedures, and a lack of awareness campaigns. Proposed innovations include simplifying certification procedures, government subsidies, and technical training and assistance. This study updates the existing literature by highlighting the role of cooperative agencies and SME assistance institutions in the halal supply chain, which has previously received limited attention. In this context, cross-sector collaboration and flexible policies are essential to overcoming the challenges faced by SMEs, ensuring inclusive access to halal certification, and enhancing global competitiveness.‎

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the ethics of decision-making and risk mitigation in the Qur’an through the narrative of Prophet Moses and Khidr (peace be upon them) in Surah Al-Kahf verse 71, and to explore its relevance to asset protection and contemporary Islamic insurance. Design/methodology/approach: The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with library research. The main reference is Tafsir Al-Iqtishodiy by Rafiq Yunus Al-Mishri, analyzing the dialogue between Moses and Khidr to extract ethical and economic lessons on risk identification and mitigation. Findings: Khidr’s actions exemplify wisdom-based decision-making and long-term risk mitigation aligned with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly hifẓ al-māl. Asset protection is presented as a moral and social responsibility, while takaful, ta‘āwun, and prudence in Islamic insurance reflect Qur’anic ethics of risk management. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to textual analysis of one Qur’anic narrative and one tafsir perspective, which may constrain generalization. Practical implications: Findings provide an ethical foundation for sustainable risk management and development of Sharia-compliant insurance policies. Originality/value: The study bridges Qur’anic ethics, Islamic decision-making, and modern risk management, offering a novel conceptual framework for ethical asset protection. Paper type: Research paper Keywords: Asset Protection, Decision Ethics, Islamic Insurance, Quranic Interpretation, Risk Mitigation

Abstract

Humans as social beings in essence need someone's help in working for their own interests. As a reward for someone's work, workers are given wages (ujrah) . The moral concept in determining worldly wages will result in the achievement of uhkrawih wages . However, currently the capitalist wage system is often applied in economic life rather than the Islamic economic system, so that the meaning of wages and the mechanics of wages and matters related to wages in Islamic economics are important to understand in depth. The research method used is literature. The results of the study through the thematic interpretation approach state that the word " ajru" can mean reward, " ajru" can mean reward and also “ ajru” can mean dowry (dowry). Giving Ujrah (wages) is not only meant between workers and employers who have a contract, but wages are also given by a husband to a wife who has been divorced if the wife is breastfeeding. In this case the position of the husband as the owner of capital ( musta'jir ), and the wife as a worker ( ajir ). Islam asks employers to pay workers a fair wage and provide workers with facilities.

Abstract

Islam and Economy: Towards the Islamization of Economic Knowledge offers a profound understanding of Islam's contributions to forming a more inclusive and sustainable economic paradigm. The discussion on Islam and economics, as well as the movement towards the Islamization of economic knowledge, is essential to understand in the context of realizing the vision of justice and social welfare mandated by Islamic teachings. This research method is descriptive and analytical, focusing on the collection of secondary data from various relevant literature sources. The analysis employs qualitative methods by interpreting and summarizing information from various sources to draw conclusions. The results indicate that the understanding and application of Islamic economic principles are becoming increasingly relevant. Islam, as a comprehensive religion and way of life, offers a unique and sustainable perspective on economics that encompasses not only material aspects but also moral and spiritual dimensions. The Islamization of economic knowledge is an effort to develop an economic system that reflects Islamic values. This involves not just the application of Sharia law but also building a foundation for an economy that is fair, ethical, and sustainable. The process of Islamization occurs gradually, beginning with an in-depth study of the discipline of knowledge that is the subject of Islamization. This involves a thorough analysis of the worldview, philosophy, and underlying values of the discipline. The next step is to eliminate elements that do not align with Islamic teachings and integrate those that do.

Abstract

This study aims to compare systemic risk between Islamic banks and conventional banks in Indonesia by employing a thematic exegesis approach (tafsīr al-mawḍū‘ī) to selected Qur’anic verses in Surah Al-Baqarah, specifically verses 30, 219, 220, 245, 275, 276, and 282. These verses address fundamental themes related to finance, justice, debt relationships, usury (ribā), charitable giving (ṣadaqah), and equitable wealth distribution within the framework of Islamic economic principles. By integrating qualitative analysis drawn from classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis—including Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, and Tafsīr al-Māwardī—with insights from modern economic literature, this study highlights the fundamental distinctions between Sharī‘ah-based financial principles and conventional banking practices in relation to financial system stability. The findings indicate that the Islamic financial system embodies inherent mechanisms capable of mitigating systemic risk, notably through the prohibition of ribā, the implementation of profit-and-loss sharing arrangements, and the moral obligation to uphold charitable redistribution and social justice. In contrast, interest-based conventional financial systems tend to exacerbate economic inequality and amplify vulnerability to financial crises. These findings reinforce the contemporary relevance of Qur’anic values in informing financial stability policies within modern economic systems.

Abstract

Background: The global Muslim population reached 26% in 2020 and is projected to reach 34% by 2070, driving significant demand for halal tourism. Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population, possesses enormous potential for Sharia tourism development, yet faces challenges including unclear regulations, limited facilities, and low public awareness of halal certification. In Aceh, only two out of 84 accommodation units have obtained halal certification despite many claiming to operate on Sharia principles. Method: This study employed a quantitative approach with explanatory and correlational research design. A sample of 600 respondents was selected using simple random sampling from star-rated hotels in Banda Aceh. Data were collected through closed questionnaires with a 1-5 Likert scale. Data analysis utilized Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) using SmartPLS 4.0 software. Results: The results indicate that all branding variables—Brand Salience, Brand Meaning, Brand Response, Brand Resonance—and the Role of Government have significant positive influences on Sharia tourism development (p-value < 0.05). Brand Resonance demonstrated the strongest influence (path coefficient 0.321), followed by the Role of Government (0.289). The model showed good goodness of fit with SRMR 0.035 and NFI 0.926. Conclusion: The conclusion emphasizes that strong halal accommodation branding and government support through regulation and oversight are essential keys to positioning Aceh as a leading destination in the global halal tourism industry.
