Abstract

Social media has become a primary space for adolescent identity construction, where influencers function as models of communication and behavior. Without adequate control and digital literacy, influencers’ communication styles may shape adolescents’ character in an uncritical and instantaneous manner, potentially introducing values that diverge from national character ideals. This study aims to analyze how influencers’ communication styles on social media affect adolescent character formation. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed involving adolescents aged 13–18 years in Magelang City who actively use Instagram and TikTok. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, social media observations, and digital documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and verification techniques. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that persuasive, personal, and expressive communication styles used by influencers significantly influence adolescents’ attitudes, values, and character formation in both positive and negative ways. These findings highlight the importance of digital literacy in strengthening adolescent character in the information era. The study provides insights for educators, parents, and policymakers in designing effective digital mentoring strategies and offers a foundation for further research

Abstract

Traditional games as part of the nation's cultural heritage are increasingly marginalized in the modern era due to the influence of globalization and the development of digital technology, so that the noble values contained in them are starting to be less recognized by the younger generation. This problem is the main focus of the study, namely how to re-actualize traditional games as an effective means of forming national character that is relevant to the current context. This study aims to describe the role of Kampung Dolanan Nusantara in instilling character values such as mutual cooperation, honesty, responsibility, and love of the homeland through local culture-based activities. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that Kampung Dolanan Nusantara not only functions as a space for cultural preservation, but also as an effective educational vehicle in instilling character values in children and adolescents through a participatory, interactive, and fun approach. This activity provides benefits in the form of the creation of an educational space based on local wisdom that is able to strengthen national identity and shape a young generation with character, adaptability, and a national spirit. These findings contribute to the development of a local culture-based character education curriculum through the integration of civic values into ethnopedagogical practices, as well as being the basis for the formulation of participatory cultural preservation policies oriented towards strengthening civic identity.

Abstract

The rise of AI in recent times has significantly impacted the translation industry, igniting discussions about the respective roles of AI-driven machine translation and human expertise. However, the effectiveness of AI and machine translation in translating literary works remains a topic of debate, as literary translation should be linguistically accurate and preserve nuance, emotion, and cultural context. This study aims to observe the result of AI, Machine Translation, and humans in translating the short story entitled The Story of An Hour. This study analyses the translation method used by AI, Machine Translation (MT), and Human (HT) to translate a short story. Moreover, this research also determines the quality of the translation results from AI, MT, and HT. The research method used is qualitative and quantitaive. The data are collected from document analysis to observe the translation methods based on Newmark and questionnaire from Sutopo & Setya Budi to assess the quality of literary translation results. The research objects are the translation results of Chat GPT, DeepL, and human translator taken from fiksi lotus. The translation results are assessed concerning the accuracy, the sense of literature, acceptability, and readability. The results show that the significant translation methods applied in AI and machine translation are literal, faithful, communicative, and semantic translations. However, a human translator uses free translation, adaptation, and communicative translation. The quality result shows that human translators get higher accuracy, acceptability, sense of literature, and readability.

Abstract

The growing prevalence of social media as a source of news consumption has significant implications for political expression among youth. This study examines the impact of news consumption on political expression among young social media users in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 228 respondents through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using linear regression. The result suggested that news consumption on social media has a positive effect on users' political expression, although with a relatively small effect size (7.3%). It affirms the relevance of the relationship between news consumption on social media, but the small effect indicates an anomaly. There are some possibilities that may become barriers, such as the existence of the ITE Law which regulates the use of information technology, political efficacy, communication competence, social environment, and individual motivation in shaping political expression. The influence of these factors may differ across various social media platforms and contexts, necessitating further comprehensive research to fully comprehend political expression in the digital era. The diversity of platforms and different contexts are important aspects for conducting more in-depth research to obtain a comprehensive understanding of political expression in different digital eras. Limitations of this study include an unrepresentative sample, and potential bias in self-reported measurement of political expression. Future research is recommended to employ more representative samples and integrate content analysis with questionnaires to obtain more accurate data on this phenomenon.
