Abstract

This study aimed to find the correlation between proximity and social interaction. This was a correlational study. The population of this study was 173 eight grade students. The data were collected by using proximity scale and social interaction scale. To analyze the data, this study used product moment correlation. The result of this study showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between proximity and social interaction by the coefficient of correlation (r) 0.365 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). In other words, higher proximity leads to higher social interaction and vice versa. The results of this study can provide information to educators, especially guidance and counseling teachers (BK) as predictions and preliminary data before providing guidance and counseling services to develop students proximity  and social interaction.

Abstract

This action research was performed to improve career guidance service with cinematherapy techniques to improve students’ decision-making skills in SMA Negeri Yogyakarta. Participants were students of Class XII IPS who participated in state university admission tests and found it difficult to make a career decision, particularly regarding the actualization of selecting a major. Twenty-six participants were recruited using a purposive sampling technique. The data were collected using an observation guideline and a questionnaire and analyzed descriptively.   The study was conducted in two cycles, which consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Career service using the cinematherapy technique was conducted through virtual face-to-face meetings using Zoom. Videos were carefully selected to ensure they could stimulated students to explore, crystallize, select, and clarify the value. Students exhibited poor career decision-making skills before receiving the intervention (mean score: 69). After participating in the cinematherapy, the mean score increased to 75.49 in Cycle I, with clarification, selection, crystallization, and exploration aspects, exhibited score of 73.85, 73.74, 75.27, and 75.13, respectively.   In cycle II, more varied movies were selected, resulting in a mean score of 83.39%, with clarification, selection, crystallization, and exploration showing a score of 83.85, 81.87, 83.30, and 85.64, respectively.   The result showed that career guidance with cinematherapy technique could enhance decision-making skills among Class XII IPS of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta. This study result could be used as an alternative reference to solve students’ issues on career decision-making process

Abstract

Studies on self-regulated learning (SRL) have been well-established and draw education and psychology researchers. This paper focuses on self-motivation as an important element of self-regulated learning. Self-motivation is the first stage an individual needs before acting and determining the success of his/her act. Self-motivation encompasses self-efficacy, intrinsic interest, goal orientation, outcomes expectations, and activation of knowledge. This correlational study involved 100 randomly recruited guidance and counseling department students. The data were collected using self-motivation and self-regulated learning scales and analyzed using regression analysis. This study showed that not all aspects of self-motivation play important roles in self-regulated learning. Goal orientation was found to be the most influential aspect, followed by self-efficacy, activation of knowledge, outcomes expectations, and intrinsic interest/value. This result implies that the learning goal may serve as a strong motivating factor in self-regulated learning. Self-efficacy may invoke psychological energy that drives individuals to perform self-regulated learning. The process and its rationalization are discussed further in this paper
