Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implications of positivism on the scientific method through a literature review. Positivism, a philosophical school developed in the 19th century by Auguste Comte, emphasizes the importance of empirical observation, verification, and objectivity in acquiring scientific knowledge. This study is important because it provides a better understanding of how positivism influenced the scientific method and how this method developed and is used in the contemporary academic world. Through this literature review, the research explores the history of positivism, its core principles, and its contributions to the scientific method in both natural and social sciences. Additionally, critiques of positivism by philosophers such as Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn are analyzed, particularly in relation to its limitations in addressing complex and subjective phenomena. The findings indicate that while positivism has played a significant role in the development of science, the more flexible post-positivist approach is increasingly relevant in addressing contemporary scientific research challenges.

Abstract

This study explores the narrative structures and emotional intelligence content of short stories and folktales published in Bobo Magazine Edisi Koleksi Terbatas 50 Tahun: Cerpen Dongeng, with the aim of assessing their suitability as children’s literature. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the research integrates structural and literary psychology approaches. Data were collected through purposive sampling of 13 texts, followed by close reading and note-taking techniques. Findings indicate that most stories follow a simple, linear narrative structure, with child or animal protagonists, familiar settings, and accessible language. Common themes include friendship, family affection, honesty, gender equality, and heroism—elements that align with the conventions of children’s literature. Structural analysis reveals that 8 out of 13 stories fully meet the criteria for children's literature. However, emotional intelligence analysis, based on Goleman's five dimensions (self-awareness, emotion regulation, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills), shows that only a few texts demonstrate all five components, while most focus primarily on emotional recognition and regulation. The study concludes that while these narratives structurally qualify as children’s literature, their representation of emotional intelligence remains limited. Given the educational value of emotional content in literature, the findings underscore the need for more intentional integration of emotional intelligence in children’s stories. The study is limited by its small corpus drawn from a single source and period (1993–2003). Future research should expand the corpus and explore alternative analytical approaches to deepen understanding of emotional intelligence in Indonesian children's literature.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop ethnopedagogy-based digital teaching materials for teaching fantasy story writing in senior high school, with the objective of improving students’ creative writing skills while strengthening their appreciation of local culture. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the ADDIE model, encompassing needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The participants consisted of Grade X high school students and Indonesian language teachers. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, questionnaires, observation, writing tests, and interviews. The findings indicate that the developed digital teaching materials are highly valid in terms of content, language, and media design, practical for classroom implementation, and effective in enhancing students’ ability to write imaginative fantasy stories embedded with ethnopedagogical values. Students demonstrated significant improvement in narrative structure, creativity, and the integration of local wisdom elements into their writing. This study implies that ethnopedagogy-based digital teaching materials can serve as an effective instructional innovation to support culturally responsive literacy learning in secondary education. For research, the study contributes a practical R&D model for integrating local cultural values into digital literacy instruction. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of ethnopedagogical principles into digital fantasy story writing materials, offering a meaningful contribution to creative writing pedagogy and culturally grounded digital learning in the contemporary educational context.
