Abstract

The development of animal husbandry is closely related to the development of an area and the carrying capacity of forage forage both in quality and quantity. Muna Regency is one of the areas that has considerable potential in the development of beef cattle, because the existence of beef cattle is still very much in demand by the community to be cultivated even though it is a side business. Muna Regency also has sufficient land and natural feed availability, so the factor of regional potential in the provision of forage and the need to meet animal feed is very important. This study aims to determine the development of a beef cattle cluster model based on food crops, plantations and grazing in Muna Regency, which is carried out for 3 months. Determination of the location in this study was carried out deliberately (purposive sampling). Data analysis used in this study includes Location Quotient (LQ) analysis, analysis of feed availability based on land availability and agricultural by-products, and analysis of the feasibility criteria for cluster model development areas. The results showed that the muna district had the potential for the development of the Beef Cattle Cluster Model Area, namely; 1) Based on Food Plants with the distribution of development areas in Kabawo, Kabangka and Kontukowuna Districts, 2) Based on plantation crops consisting of IV development areas, namely (a) Region I spread over 5 sub-districts, namely Maligano, South Wakorumba, Batukara, Pasir Putih, and Pasikolaga District; (b) Region II is spread across three sub-districts, namely Parigi, Bone and Marobo Districts; (c) Region III is spread across three sub-districts, namely Tongkuno, South Tongkuno and Lohia Districts; and (d) Region IV consists of two districts, namely Napabalano and Lasalepa Districts; and 3) The potential for the development of a beef cattle cluster model area in Muna Regency based on pasture areas is Watoputi District and Kontunaga District

Abstract

Tinanggea and Palangga subdistricts of South Konawe Regency have many cattle farmers and relatively more populations than other livestock. The research aims to find out the motivation of farmers in raising bali cattle in Tinanggea and Palangga subdistricts in June - July 2020. Sub-districts and villages were determined by purposive sampling based on the largest number of livestock, while respondents selected as many as 60 farmers in simple random sampling. Furthermore, the data obtained is analyzed using The Likert scale and explained derpively. The results showed a strong reason farmers keep Balinese cattle because of economic motivation (68.8%), entertainment motivation (56%), environmental motivation (36%), and (4) social status motivation (22%).

Abstract

Covid 19 pandemic greatly threatens people's lives. Providing training to increase body immunity is done by educating the public to make herbal salted eggs. Through this training activity, PKK mothers are taught to choose materials, understand the causes and spread of Covid 19, and herbal salted egg processing. The results of the activity showed the enthusiasm and willingness of participants to implement making herbal products of the same type in their homes, some had business plans to make and market to the surrounding community. This training activity is needed by the community and can increase their knowledge and skills. The community hopes that this activity can continue periodically as a target of Halu Oleo University with various types of products.

Abstract

Domestic demand on beef is increasing today. However the beef supply can not fulfil the demand so that importation of beef and feeder cattle is still required. Beef cattle feedloting is now growing in Indonesia. This research was done to study the growth and development of carcass components of beef carcas from Brahman Cross cattle. The number of animals used was 165 heads with the body weight range 350 - 400 kg taken from feedlot fattening. The experiment was set in completely randomized factorial design withh two factors, namely butt shape conformation (butt shape score D, C, B) and sex class (heifer, steer, cow). Parameter of carcass characteristic, i.e. carcass weight, carcass percentage, loin eye area, fat thickness of ribs 12th, fat percentage of kidney, pelvic and hearth, and fat thickness of rump P8.The result of this study showed that the increase of butt shape conformation score significantly increased loin eye area, especially in heifer and cow sex class. Key words: butt shape conformation, carcass characteristic, Brahman cross cattle, sex class

This research was conducted to study the growth and distribution of carcass components of beef carcas from Australian Commercial Cross and Brahman Cross cattle. The number of animals used was 165 heads with the body weight range of 350 - 400 kg taken from feedlot fattening. To study the growth and development of carcass component, the equation alometric Huxley was used. The result showed that breed had not significant effect on wholesale cuts. The geometry estimation on the specification of traditional markets and special market showed also the differences on topside (traditional market) and flank (special market). Key words : distribution, wholesale cuts, Australian Commercial cross, Brahman cross, fattening

Abstract

Generally, the permanent pasture of dry farming in South East Sulawesi is dominated by the perennial grass and coppi plant, which have very low palatability and benefit for livestock. The aim of the research was to increase the productivity of pasture in South East Sulawesi by introducing perennial grasses and manure application. The experiment was conducted in UPTD and analytical laboratory of FMIPA from April to September 2006 using three types of perennial grasses i.e. Brachiaria decumbens, Paspalum dilatatum and Cynodon plectostachyrus. Perception conducted to calculate the botanical composition and soil properties before and after the treatment. The field experiment was carried out as two factorial experiment arranged in Randomized Block Design. The first factor was the species of perennial grass and the second factor was different level of manure fertilizer. The result of the experiment showed that the crude fibre content of B. decumbens was lower than those of P. dilatatum and C. plectostachyrus. The crude fibre content increased with the increasing manure application. But the protein content of B. decumbens was higher than those of P. dilatatum and C. plectostachyrus. It is suggested to plant B. decumbens to get higher quality forage for livestock in South East Sulawesi. Key words: manure, perennial grass, pasture, protein, fiber

Abstract

Pangium edule or keluwak is a local spice that can extend the shelf life of livestock products because it contains antimicrobial compounds. This study aimed to determine the effect of marination using Pangium edule on the microbiological and organoleptic quality of lamb. This study used a factorial completely randomized design to treat Pangium edule concentration and shelf life of 3 replications each. Lamb meat was marinated using Pangium edule extract 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%, then stored at 12 hours, 24 hours, and 36 hours at room temperature. The results showed that the longer the meat's shelf life, the microbial growth also increased, but marination using Pangium edule resulted in lower microbial growth than without treatment. The treatment of lamb marination with 3% and 6% Pangium edule extract showed the lowest microbes and was very significantly different from lamb without treatment for 36 hours. Its means that the antibacterial compound in Pangium edule can inhibit microbial growth and is still by the standards set by SNI compared to the control. Marination using Pangium edule extract during the shelf life also significantly affected the panelists' acceptance level, namely aroma, taste, tenderness, and color. Organoleptic scores, namely smell, taste, tenderness, and color at 6% to 9% with a shelf life of 36 hours, are still in a fairly good range. Marination using Pangium edule 6% can maintain the microbiological and organoleptic lamb quality for 36 hours.
