Abstract

Stress is generally being experienced by most of the nurses due to the duration of working hours and the number of patients. The high workload of nurses often results in fatigue, loss of concentration at work, the ability to remember information is very limited, being emotional and apathetic. This research is an analytic survey, with cross-sectional design in which the independent and dependent variables were examined simultaneously to determine the relationship between the nurse workload and stress level of nurses in the ICU wards of Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital. This study uses primary data which were obtained by using questionnaires and secondary data were obtained from the medical record, with questionnaire instruments. The entire population were nurses in the ICU wards and samples in this study consisted of 24 nurses taken by total sampling technique. Based on the results of the chi square test at work variable, it is found that the X2 count 3.154, which means there is not any relationship between working hours and the level of stress of nurses working in the ICU, and the variable of the number of patients X2 count 6,446 which means there is a relationship between number of patients with stress level for nurses in the ICU wards. The study's findings indicate that while there is a correlation between the number of patients and nurses' stress levels in the General Hospital's intensive care unit wards, there is no correlation between working hours and nurses' stress levels.

Abstract

Background: Overnutrition in infants aged 6-12 months is an increasingly prevalent health issue. The main factors suspected to play a role are maternal knowledge about nutrition and inappropriate feeding practices. Based on initial observations in Mekar Sari Village, Deli Serdang, 30 infants were found to be overnourished, indicating the need to identify the influencing factors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing the occurrence of overnutrition in infants aged 6-12 months, with a focus on maternal knowledge and feeding practices. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Infant nutritional status was determined based on Weight-for-Height (WHZ) measurements referring to WHO Growth Standards (2006), where infants were categorized as overnourished if the WHZ Z-score > +2 SD. The sample consisted of 30 infants who met the inclusion criteria. Results: WHZ measurements showed that 17 infants (56.7%) were overnourished. A total of 19 mothers (63.3%) had poor nutritional knowledge and 17 mothers (56.7%) implemented inappropriate feeding practices. Bivariate analysis showed significant relationships between overnutrition and maternal knowledge (p-value = 0.000; OR = 22.713) and feeding practices (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge and feeding practices are factors that significantly influence the occurrence of overnutrition in infants at the research location. Public health interventions focusing on improving maternal nutritional literacy and promoting appropriate feeding practices are essential for preventing this problem.

Abstract

Background: Growth and development are often considered similar as both involve changes in infants. Growth refers to quantitative changes related to physical maturation, such as increases in body size and weight, which are irreversible. In contrast, development refers to qualitative changes involving the maturation of body functions and structures, and this process continues throughout life. Several factors, including parental knowledge and attitudes, significantly influence and are correlated with infant growth and development. Mothers with low levels of knowledge and negative attitudes are at higher risk of experiencing deviations in their infants’ growth and development. Objective: This study aims to identify the correlation between parental knowledge and attitudes toward infant growth and development among mothers at PMB Pera. Methods: This research used a quantitative approach with an observational design and a cross-sectional study method. Data were gathered by distributing questionnaires and interviews involving 30 respondents. The acquired dataset was processed utilizing univariate and bivariate techniques and tested with the Chi-Square test to examine the correlation between variables. Results: Considering the Chi-Square analysis, there was a significant relationship between parental knowledge and infant growth and development, with a p-value of 0.000. Likewise, parental attitudes toward infant growth and development showed a significant relationship, with a p-value of 0.044. These outcomes indicate that the independent variables in this study have a significant correlation with the growth and development of infants aged 6–24 months at PMB Pera.

Abstract

Background: Infant health is greatly influenced by optimal nutritional intake, particularly through exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. However, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra and Evi Primary Clinic, is still low. Many mothers provide early complementary feeding and formula milk before the baby is 6 months old, which can increase the risk of health issues in infants. Objective: To identify and analyze the factors affecting early complementary feeding and formula milk use in infants under 6 months of age at Evi Primary Clinic. Method: This study uses a qualitative descriptive design with a phenomenological approach. Sampling was conducted through purposive sampling until data saturation was reached, with a total of 10 informants (mothers of infants under 6 months who provided complementary feeding/formula). Data were collected through in-depth interviews. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2024) model. Results: The analysis revealed three main themes: (1) The perception of insufficient breast milk as the primary trigger for providing complementary food/formula, (2) Socio-cultural pressure and advice from the nuclear and extended family (especially in-laws) that encourage early provision, and (3) The inconsistent dual role of health workers, ranging from those who support exclusive breastfeeding to those who recommend formula milk from the start. Factors such as mothers' low knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, economic conditions, and mothers returning to work also played a role. Conclusion: The practice of providing early complementary foods and formula milk to infants under six months of age is influenced by a complex interaction of internal and external factors, with maternal perception, culture, and family support as the dominant factors. The implications of this research highlight the need for ongoing education involving families, consistent training for health workers, and supportive policies to enhance breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Background: Wasting, a form of acute malnutrition characterized by low weight-for-height, remains a critical public health problem in Indonesia. This condition increases the risk of child mortality and reflects short-term nutritional deficiencies. The prevalence of wasting in Indonesia continues to exceed the World Health Organization (WHO) threshold, underscoring the need for targeted interventions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze factors associated with wasting among children aged 6–24 months. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the UPT Puskesmas Bestari, Medan. The sample comprised 35 children aged 6–24 months selected using total sampling. Data were collected through interviews, nutritional status assessment (weight-for-height), and questionnaires. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (Chi-square test), and multivariate analysis (logistic regression). Results: The prevalence of wasting was 71.4% (25 of 35 children). Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between wasting and inadequate dietary intake (p = 0.004), low maternal knowledge (p = 0.000), and low household income (p = 0.004). No significant associations were found between wasting and child sex (p = 0.421) or family size (p = 0.134). Multivariate analysis identified low maternal knowledge as the most dominant factor associated with wasting. Conclusion: Wasting among children aged 6–24 months is significantly influenced by inadequate dietary intake, low maternal knowledge, and low household income. Comprehensive interventions focusing on maternal nutrition education, strengthening household food security, and improving family economic capacity are essential to prevent wasting in this vulnerable age group.
