Abstract

This study explains the philosophical schools that form the Islamic education system at the Ar Risalah Modern Islamic Boarding School. As part of a modern Islamic educational institution in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the impact of the three dominant Islamic philosophical schools, namely Religious-Conservative, Religious-Rational, and Pragmatic on the structure, curriculum, and learning activities at the Islamic boarding school. The approach used is a qualitative method with observation, interview, and document analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the Ar Risalah Modern Islamic Boarding School combines three approaches in its education. The conservative approach is seen in strengthening faith and worship in accordance with traditional Islamic teachings. The rational approach is seen in the way they encourage students to think openly and critically, and combine religious knowledge with general knowledge. Meanwhile, the pragmatic approach is seen in educational policies and curricula that are adjusted to the needs of the times. These three approaches form a balanced education system, which will maintain Islamic values, but is also able to adapt to the challenges of modern life.

Abstract

During the growing challenge of moral degradation and identity crisis in education, character development rooted in Islamic values is essential. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Islamic character education at Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) through the implementation of Tajdid (renewal) and Khaira Ummah (the best people) values in shaping the Pancasila Student Profile. Using a library research method with a qualitative approach, the study examines scientific literature, policy documents, and research findings related to character education, Muhammadiyah ideology, and national character standards. The findings reveal that MBS applies an integrative and contextual educational model, combining classroom learning with 24-hour character coaching, value habituation, role modeling, and Islamic-based community life. Tajdid values support innovation, adaptability, and critical thinking, while Khaira Ummah promotes moral integrity, social responsibility, and civic engagement. These values are implemented through structured programs, such as the ISMUBA curriculum, reward–punishment systems, and collaborative teacher–dormitory mentoring. The study concludes that integrating Tajdid and Khaira Ummah values with the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile creates a harmonious synergy between Islamic identity and national character. Limitations of the study include its conceptual nature without empirical field data. Future research should apply qualitative or mixed methods in specific MBS contexts to validate the model. This study offers originality by proposing a conceptual model of Islamic character education that bridges religious values and national ideals, contributing to Islamic education theory and national education policy discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to philosophically examine the basic concept of Islamic education and how this foundation is applied in the practice of Islamic education in Indonesia, especially in Islamic-based elementary education institutions. Islamic education does not only aim to form intellectually intelligent humans, but also spiritually and morally whole. In the context of national education, Islamic education often experiences challenges in terms of integrating basic values into formal-secular education systems and policies. This research method is qualitative with a field study approach at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Baitul Muttaqiin Sumberagung, which was chosen because it is one of the areas with quite rapid development of Islamic educational institutions. The results of the study show that first, the basis of Islamic education in the perspective of Islamic philosophy includes ontological aspects (the nature of humans as creatures of God), epistemological (sources of knowledge from revelation and reason), and axiological (the purpose of education as worship and the achievement of perfect humans). Second, implementation in the field shows that there are efforts to integrate Islamic values and the national curriculum, although there are still obstacles such as limited teacher resources and inconsistent policies. These findings serve as material for reflection to strengthen the philosophical foundations of the Indonesian Islamic education system.
