Abstract

Agroforestry plays an important role in supporting ecological, economic, and social aspects of small islands. This study aims to determine the dynamics of agroforestry land use in Pahawang Island. The method used the digital image interpretation technique with Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis on agroforestry land-use dynamics in 2006, 2014, and 2019. The research procedure is to classify images of forests, agroforestry, mangroves, fish pond, and settlements. Then, the land classification data being verified by ground checks to determine the accuracy of the data. Validity test used a confusion matrix, and a depth interview was conducted to determine the phenomena in the 2006–2014 period—the results obtained with an image accuracy rate in 2019 of 92.53%. The results show that there is an increasing and decreasing in the agroforestry land. The decreasing is due to the practice of buying and selling land by tourism investor. Partnership schemes and community-based tourism development can be carried out while maintaining the existing agroforestry conditions to support the sustainability of Pahawang Island.

Abstract

Coastal areas have many functions such as phisical, ecological, and economic with the existence of mangrove inside. The objective of the study is to find out the changes in mangrove area in Karang City. The method which is used in this study is the image interpretation tecnique with Geographic Information System (GIS) to the changes in area in 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2019. The data of mangrove’s extensive changes are analyzed by the result of direct interview on the changes in area that occur to find out the cause of the changes in mangrove area. The result shows that in 2015, there was a decrease in mangrove area of 0.4781 ha due to the development of coastal area to Pasaran Island. In 2017-2019, the increase occurred due to the ability of Mangroves to adapt with their habitat so that area increased towards the ocean of 1,193 ha. The increase of mangrove in the urban coastal areas can be considered to be designated as a green open space in addition to coastal conservation area and small islands.

Abstract

The community perception in urban coastal areas towards the mangrove ecosystem is an important factor in planning its sustainability strategy. This study aims to explain people's perceptions of mangrove forests in Kota Karang district, City of Bandar Lampung. Data collection was carried out by interview using questionnaires and observations. The collected data were analyze using the Likert scale, then it was described quantitatively. The results showed that 50% of people's perceptions of mangroves was medium (neutral) category. This condition occurred because people tend to hesitate in determining their responds towards mangrove forests. The factors that influence community perceptions were lack of knowledge of mangrove, educational levels, awareness and time availability of the community, and also the lack of information about mangrove forests due to the inadequate role of the government in providing the education (counseling) of mangrove. The government is expected to provide education and make policies to increase public awareness towards the importance of preserving mangrove forests.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse how the community's perception of protected areas on small islands. Data was collected by interview by questionnaire and observation. The collected data is then analysed using a Likert Scale to measure public perception of the areas, institutions, and tourism potential from areas protected by the community. The results showed that the community's perception of the existence of the protected area was classified high. The area is located on the top of the highest hill on Pahawang Island. The community protects it because there is a sacred site and the forest vegetation around it is still well preserved. In addition, the community realizes that the forest is very important as a water reserve and prevents erosion, but has not been used optimally economically. Perception of the institution is classified high, and it is found that the community is fond of the institution. The community already has an informal agreement to protect and not open the area. This agreement has been obeyed by the community until now, so that the sustainability of the forest is still maintained. The protected area can be used potentially for religious tourism, where the results of public perception is very good. The village government needs to plan good religious tourism also and improvement of facilities and infrastructure, so that the management of this area can improve the welfare of the community and the conservation function is maintained.

Abstract

Abstract

KPH is one solution to the problems of degradation and deforestation in almost the forests in Indonesia.  However, in its  development KPH have constraints in the institutional development of farmer groups that manage land in the areas through partnership programs. Interest of this study was to examine institutional Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) in KPHP Way Terusan. The data collection was done by interview, and then analyzed descriptively.  The results shown that the process of farmer group (KTH) formation was a response from the partnership program so that farmer didn’t fully understand the direction and aims of KTH establishment. The implementation of the rules in the form of AD/ART didn’t fully done yet because both the board and the members were not involved in the formulation of AD/ART. Farmers believe that the board of KTH able to help the farming development to improve the welfare of the community. Capacity building needs to be done through counseling and training to Gapoktan and farmer groups to become stronger and independent.KPH merupakan salah satu solusi terhadap permasalahan degradasi dan deforestasi yang terjadi di hampir seluruh wilayah hutan di Indonesia.
