Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the variety of medicinal plants, the ingredients of medicinal plants, and its utilization in Gapura District, Madura Regency. This study was conducted on June – October 2021. This study methodology was started by collecting the data, observation, and documentation. This study consisted of 60 respondents aged over 35 years because they are more experienced in making traditional medicines. The analysis of data used UVS, FUVS, ICS, and SWOT. This study found that 37 of 30 families of medicinal plants were utilized by Gapura societies. Based on the results of FUVs (Family Use Value), the families that are often used by the people of Gapura District are Zingiberaceae with a percentage of 1.75%, and the Moringaceae family with a percentage of 0.5%. The commonly utilized plant organ is the rhizome which is processed using a grater. The strategy for conserving the diversity of medicinal plants in Gapura District is wild and cultivated. Wild plants are usually only considered pests by the local community, but some wild plants have very good potential to be used as traditional medicines. Cultivated plants are a way of processing medicinal plants with the aim of bringing maximum results with good quality. Furthermore, Gapura District made the farmers' community conserve the medicinal plants through biological conservation.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of spices used in Ancak cuisine, and to describe the composition and basic ingredients. The research methods included field surveys and in-depth interviews, which were analyzed using an ethnobotanical approach. The level of plant utilization was analyzed using Use Values (UVs), and the frequency of use based on cultural importance was measured using Index of Cultural Significance (ICS), while the frequency of mention of plant types was analyzed using Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC). The results show that there are 19 types of spice plants used in Ancak cuisine. The highest UVs value is found in Tamarindus indica with a value of 6, followed by Cinnamomum verum with a value of 5 and Myristica fragrans with a value of 2. The highest ICS values for spice plants are found in Allium cepa and Allium sativum at 30, and Zingiber officinale at 12. In addition, 20 types of plants were identified as ingredients and basic materials for making Ancak. The highest UVs value was found in Apium graveolens at 2, followed by Raphanus sativus var. hortensis and Nasturtium officinale at 1. The highest ICS value was found in Oryza sativa at 30, followed by Cocos nucifera at 9 and Allium fistulosum at 6. The highest RFC value was also found in Oryza sativa at 1, followed by Glycine max at 0.95, and Cucumis sativus at 0.35. These findings indicate that the Ancak dish reflects rich local ethnobotanical knowledge and strong social and cultural values.

Abstract

Sustainable development based on natural resources requires collaborative governance capable of harmonizing social, economic, and environmental dimensions, particularly in the implementation of social forestry, which continues to face institutional and actor coordination challenges. This study aims to construct a pentahelix model for the implementation of Integrated Area Development (IAD) based on social forestry to support sustainable development in Lumajang Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted in the social forestry IAD development areas of Senduro and Pasrujambe Districts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving key stakeholders, including government, academics, industry/UMKM, communities, and financial institutions/cooperatives, and were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The findings indicate that local actors have a relatively strong understanding of the IAD concept, community participation is high, and positive impacts are observed across economic, social, and environmental aspects in line with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussion highlights that the community serves as the core actor, supported by synergistic roles of other actors, enabling the constructed Pentahelix–IAD Model to function as a contextual, collaborative, and sustainable operational framework at the regency level.
