Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the potential beneficial impact of portfolio assessment on the learning outcomes of Nahwu lessons of fourth-grade students at the Modern Islamic Boarding School of Al-Ikhlash Female in Kuningan, West Java. The study used an experimental methodology and a quantitative research approach. The research sample included all fourth graders. The research was carried out during the odd semester of academic year 2022. A quasi-experimental design used to evaluate the effectiveness of portfolio assessment, with the experimental class implementing portfolio assessment while the control class continued to use the standard evaluation method. The learning outcomes of the students in the control class produced an average score of 71.67. Comparing the experimental class’ score, which used portfolio assessment, it become clear that the students’ comprehension of the Nahwu material had significantly improved. These results showed that portfolio evaluations have a chance to improve fourth-grade students’ learning outcomes in Nahwu.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competence of muṭāla‘ah teachers in developing Arabic language assessment instruments based on Bloom’s cognitive taxonomy and integrating them into digital evaluation using the ClassMarker platform. The program was initiated due to the dominance of low- to medium-order thinking questions in muṭāla‘ah assessments, which limits the development of students’ higher-order thinking skills. A participatory-educational approach was employed, consisting of needs analysis, conceptual socialization of Bloom’s taxonomy, HOTS-based test item development training, and hands-on assistance in using ClassMarker. Data were collected through observation, group discussions, pre-test and post-test assessments, and analysis of the test items produced by participants. The results indicate an improvement in teachers’ understanding of Bloom’s cognitive levels, enhanced ability to design HOTS-based muṭāla‘ah questions (C3–C6), and increased proficiency in operating ClassMarker for digital assessment. This program contributes to improving the quality of Arabic language assessment that is more objective, efficient, and data-driven within the pesantren educational context.

Abstract

Good management in Arabic language learning is crucial to ensure that experiential learning runs effectively and meets its objectives. This study aims to explore the management of experiential learning in enhancing Arabic speaking skills at Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. This study tested data validity through triangulation and analysed the data using Creswell’s interactive model, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that experiential learning management at Gontor is implemented systematically through planning, organising, actuating, and controlling. Each stage supports students' active participation in Arabic-speaking practices inside and outside the classroom. This management approach effectively fosters a communicative environment that enhances students’ speaking fluency, confidence, and linguistic discipline. However, challenges remain in maintaining language consistency among all learners. The originality of this study lies in integrating experiential learning management with the pesantren’s language environment to strengthen speaking skills. The implications highlight the importance of structured management for sustaining language practice programs. Future studies should examine its application in other pesantren contexts or among learners with varying levels of Arabic language proficiency.

Abstract

Introduction: The lack of standarized assessment instruments aligned with the CEFR remains a significant challenge in evaluating student’s Arabic reading proficiency within the Indonesian educational context. In particular, there is a critical need for instruments that bridge local curricula with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Research Objectives: This study aims to develop valid and reliable Arabic reading skills test items based on the CEFR proficiency descriptors. Methodology: To address this gap, this research employed a Research and Development approach using the 4D model, which consists of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. However, the implementation of this study was limited to the first three stages: defining needs, designing the test blueprint, and developing test items.  The participants of this study were 259 fifth-grade students of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Putri 1, selected using the Slovin formula. The initial blueprint comprised 119 test items distributed across six CEFR proficiency levels, ranging from A1 to C2. The test items were constructed in various formats, including multiple-choice, true-false, and matching questions. To ensure the quality of the instrument, expert validation and limited field trials were conducted. The data obtained were analyzed to determine content validity, empirical validity, reliability, item difficulty level, and discrimination power. Results: The results revealed that 72 items met the validity criteria and were suitable for use. The reliability analysis showed a coefficient of 0.99, indicating a very high level of reliability. Most of the valid items were categorized as easy, although several items required revision to improve their discrimination power and better differentiate between high- and low-performing students. Unique Contribution: This study contributes practically by providing Arabic language teachers in Indonesia with a standardized, CEFR-based assessment tool that can support accurate measurement of student’s reading competencies and enhance the effectiveness of Arabic reading instruction. Conclusion: Overall, the findings demonstrate thet the developed instrument is valid, reliable, and appropiate for assessing student’s reading profiency based on CEFR standards. Recommendations: Further research is recommended to implement the disseminate stage and expand the use of this instrument in broader contexts.

This type of study is called Classroom Action Research (CAR). By following Kurt Lewin's model. Classroom Action Research is implemented in 2 cycles: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Research results are 1. Implementing an Active Knowledge Sharing strategy can increase learning results, and 2. Active students. In the first cycle, the results of liveliness among students reached 77.27%, then increased in the second cycle by 79.15%. Learning outcomes in the first cycle reached 84.84%, and in the second cycle increased by 93.93%. Based on this study.
