Abstract

This research is about the contribution of each distribution channel towards room revenue in Melia Bali. The purpose of this research is to find out the contribution of hotel website, online travel agent, and offline travel agent towards room revenue at Melia Bali during 2015-2017. Data are collected in this research through interview, observation, and literature study. Data analysis method used is descriptive statistics. The result of the research shows that the biggest contribution of the distribution channel is offline travel agent. While the other distribution channels are having a fluctuations issue, where in year 2015 and 2016 the online travel agent distribution channels is higher than the hotel website. But in 2017, the hotel website has bigger contribution than online travel agents. The average contribution of hotel website towards room revenue in 2015-2017 is 17.03%. The distribution channel of online travel agent is 16.83% and the other five online travel agents that have the most contribution upon room revenue of Melia Bali in 2015-2017 are booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, Hotelbeds, and Orbitz. Contribution on distribution channel of offline travel agent is 66.15% and the five offline travel agents that have the most contribution towards room revenue of Melia Bali in 2015-2017 are Flight Center, TUI Deutschland, Meier's Weltreisen, TMS Tours, and HIS Bali Tours and Travel.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to search the entrepreneurial potency of students of Politeknik Negeri Bali (State Polytechnic of Bali). By knowing such a potential, the development of tourism business incubator within the college will be significant. Instead of giving theoretical and practical benefits in terms of teaching and learning for the subject of entrepreneurship, the existence of the incubator will prove that the institution also plays the role in creating job opportunity. In terms of teaching and learning process the result of the study will give support to the subject of entrepreneurship, for instance in production of updated teaching material and method. On the other hand, regarding job creations, institutional incubator business will give wider chance to students and fresh graduates to train themselves to create and practice business. To get view on the potency of entrepreneurship of the students, a number of 91 fourth semester students were chosen as research samples. Questionnaires were distributed to them, then analyzed using descriptive method. Three indicators of entrepreneurship, such as innovation, proactive, and risk acceptance, also indicator of the potency of business in tourism area were utilized to count means. It was found the value of 3.6. It means that between 1 to 5 of choice scale, the value of 3.6 is significant enough to indicate that the students have good potency for entrepreneurship. If it is developed seriously, they will be able to build their own business upon graduate. Such a data is significant enough as an indicator for further research at the second year, dealing with the development of business incubator in tourism area.

Abstract

This article examines the agreement and consensus between Kedewatan as a pakraman (a traditional village) in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia and hotel investors. It is done as a qualitative approach and analyzed by using two theories of critical cultural studies, namely the communicative action of Jurgen Habermas and the theory of hegemony by Antonio Gramsci. Data are obtained through observation, document studies, and in-depth interviews. The results of this study found three consensuses between Kedewatan villagers and hotel investors. First, the formal legal investment consensus that has an agreement in the form of the contribution of the hotel investor during the investment in Kedewatan Village. Second, the social consensus is the agreement of Kedewatan and hotel investors to employ the local community of Kedewatan Village as hotel employees in accordance with their competencies. Third, the cultural consensus is the agreement of both parties to appreciate the local culture and wisdom of local people to be adopted by the hotel investors who set up their business in Kedewatan Village

Abstract

There is a significant growing number of Balinese people who learn many kinds of martial arts from other countries. One of the martial arts is Aikido, originated from Japan, which has been accepted and well developed in Bali, Indonesia. This current study aimed to find out and understand the diplomacy of Japanese culture through the practice of Aikido and its relationship with tourism business in Bali. This qualitative research took place in Aikido’s dojo (training centre) in Bali. The data were collected through observation, in-depth interview, documentation, and literature study. The technique applied to analyse the data was the qualitative technique. The findings of this study show that many Japanese aikidokas and their families visit Bali regularly, not only to perform Aikido activities, but also to enjoy the scenary and Balinese culture. The long period of Aikido practice which can be time consuming surely makes Bali an ideal place to spend memorable time for the Japanese aikidoka, their families, and the all the group members. From the political point of view, this phenomenon can be an alternative of diplomacy of Japanese culture, specifically in Bali. This study found that beside the acceptance and the development of Aikido in Bali as parts of globalization and Japanese culture diplomacy, Bali tourism sector was strenghtened at the same time.

Abstract

The intention to revisit a destination usually happens during tourists’ first visit. The decision begins when tourists’ expectations meet the reality in the destination visited, moreover it exceeds the expectations. The main purpose of tourists visit a destination is one of the following: holiday, visiting friends and relatives (VFR), business, education, sports and health, but it may be a combination of them, such as holiday and VFR, holiday and business, etc. In terms of holiday it may include relax, learn and enjoy arts and culture, enjoy nature beauty, and honeymoon. The purpose of this study was to know how Balinese culture affect international tourists revisit Bali. Since Bali is known as cultural tourist destination it is worth to know more deeply. In regard with this study it was found that the number of visit by international repeating-tourists to Bali was as follows: 6 to 9 visits (28%), more than 25 visits (25%), 3 to 5 visits (25%), 14 to 17 visits (10%), 18 to 21 visits (7%), and 10 to 13 visits (5%). Three most reasons repeaters revisited Bali were friendly people, ‘love Bali’, and the charm of Bali. Their reasons were influenced by a number of factors including holiday (65%), followed by business (22.5%), VFR (7.5%), and others (5%). From this fact it may say that Bali is still considered best destination for holiday. Nine most preferable activities done by revisiting international tourists during in Bali were relax (15%), interact with local people (14%), beach activities (13%), adventure activities (11%), sightseeing (10%), learning local culture (9%), attending temple ceremony (8%), enjoying night life (7%), and business (6%). In terms of revisiting behavior, connection with a visited destination is considered significant by experts. Connection in this case may be tangible and intangible. Tangible connection may include business and social networks, while intangible connection is seen through psychological aspect. In this study attachment theory was used to examine the connection between repeaters and Bali as a tourist destination. It was found that most repeaters had strong connection to Bali, mostly affected by friendly people of Bali (social connection), uniqueness of culture (cultural connection), and natural beauty or the charm of Bali (place connection). Further study is important to conduct to know more about how each connection influence each other.

Abstract

Bali beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) is an annual national tourism agenda as a business-to-business event for local travel industry players to sell travel packages to foreign buyers. As one of the sellers in the annual event, Bagus Discovery Management Company (BDMC) that manage Nusa Dua Bali Tours & Travel, Puri Bagus Hotel Group, and Bagus Agro had participated actively in BBTF by opening a booth stand in Nusa Dua Hall of Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center as the event venue from June 27 to June 30. This study investigated the role of BDMC in BBTF through the writer’s direct practices when was involved in handling the event by conducting surveys in the fifth edition of BBTF. Additionally, interviews were conducted to the staff and top management of the company about the winning strategy for attracting buyers in such a potential marketing event as well as to buyers by asking their perception about the event. The data that had been classified then analyzed using descriptive qualitative based on inductive methodological paradigm by setting up the discussion from specifically principles to general before drawing a conclusion. The study reveals that most of the sellers who visited Bagus Discovery Booth Stand felt satisfied towards the service received and appreciated highly its products like Puri Bagus Group Property which is considered to possess a distinctive uniqueness as what certainly every guest is looking for

Abstract

The environment is increasingly occupying important issues in all aspects of life including the tourism business that is often highlighted to ignore the environment. Because it is so crucial, it is constantly discoursed not only in local and national contexts but more globally. In these evolving discourses, it turns out that there are a number of ideologies that show the interests of those who discoursing them. This research uses qualitative approach, and scientifi cultural studies paradigm. The purpose of this research is to know the ideologies of global, national and local environmental discourse. Research results show that based on the global ideology of sustainable development, there are ecological sustainability, economic sustainability, and social sustainability. Ideology of national environmental discourse which is a transformation from developmentalism ideology (modernization) can also hegemonize company industry, society, with legitimizing by law and regulations issued about tourism and environment, so that the sustainability of development can be achieved. The ideology of local environmental discourse there are various local knowledge (local genius) related to the environment that has been practiced by certain countries, especially the developing countries, where tourist destination areas such as Bali have run it through religious ritual, as well as through the daily life of the community .

Abstract

In the tourism industry, fluctuations in room occupancy are common. Many hotels offer various types of accommodation and service options needed by guests, causing competition between one hotel and another hotel. The purpose of this study is to find out how the management of room allotment in an effort to increase room occupancy at a one 5-star hotel in the southern part of Bali. This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method with analysis of POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) and SWBR (Strength, Weakness, Benefit, Risk). Data is obtained using the interview method. This study also explains how the implications of room allotment management on management strategy at the hotel. The results of this study indicate that the management of the allotment room has been done quite well but has not provided maximum results in increasing room occupancy. The implications of giving room allotment based on management functions indicate that negotiations still have problems with the prices determined, there are strengths, weaknesses, benefits and risks in organizing the people who regulate the room allotment, the room allotment given has not been 100% fulfilled and there is no a special system to control room allotment. Future research is recommended with regard to the effectiveness of room allotment through the system.

Abstract

The writers conducted the process of observation, literature study, and interviews with the head of Karang Boma Studio, Pecatu Village to get information related to the Kecak performance at Uluwatu Temple. The uniqueness of this Kecak art can be seen in the presentation that uses human voice accompaniment. Processing melodies and interlocking cak patterns really requires strong breathing. The aesthetic value can be seen from the wholeness in the presentation of Kecak which is presented in its entirety with the patterns arranged in the Kecak's vowels by highlighting the harmonious vocal processing techniques between plain and sangsih cak. The balance in the presentation of Kecak is seen from the melody processing and cak pattern pronunciation that is dynamically balanced and does not occur as a dominant one.

Abstract

Purpose: This study attempts to describe the efforts made by Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort in supporting employee’s productivity during the Covid-19 pandemic. Research method: Data collection techniques are done through interview. Data gained were analyzed in a descriptive-qualitative way. Results and discussion: The efforts made by Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort can support the productivity of its employees by conducting online and offline training activities. Analysis of the quantity, quality and work time of employees, show that the training is really carried out. Implication: The training activities implemented by Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua Resort have indirectly facilitated employee productivity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
