Abstract

Abstract

Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is a plant that relies on kinetic energy from hot steam to produce electrical energy. At the Paiton Power Plant, thermal energy is generated from burning a certain amount of coal. The use of coal-fired power plants still dominates most of the world's electricity supply. The optimal operation of electric power systems has grown in importance in recent years due to ever-increasing fuel costs. An electric power system basically consists of power generation units that aim to serve the needs of the load. Total production costs can be minimized by a combination of power loading on existing generating units so that an optimal load or more is obtained. This optimization process is called Economic Dispatch. Economic Dispatch has conducted a lot of research using various optimization methods. In this study, the optimization method to be used is the Lagrange method. Firefly algorithm and genetic algorithm methods are also used as performance comparisons. The results of this study show that the lagrange method can optimize generation costs with a difference of 243,227,475 $ / hour or 7,043% of the actual cost. While the firefly algorithm gets a difference of 243,227,471 $ / hour or 7.043% of the actual cost. And the genetic algorithm gets a cost difference of 242,119,792 $ / hour or 7,011% of the actual cost.

Abstract

Education is a means that allows individuals to develop their potential through the learning process. Vocational High School (SMK) is a formal education that prepares students to become middle-level workers, enterpreneurs, or continue to college. The admission system for State Universities (PTN) is divided into three pathways: SNBP, SNBT, and Independent Selection. This study aims to forecast new student admissions through the achievement pathway, specifically based on report card grades, with a case study at vocational school. The forecasting method used is the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), by analyzing the trend of student grades data admitted to state universities in 2020-2023, which includes report card grades from semesters 1 to 5. From the ARIMA analysis that was carried out for student admissions at state universities, the best ARIMA model was obtained (1,1,2) with an average MAPE error value of 2.12%. This indicates that the ARIMA model has good performance and can be used to forecast new student admissions to state universities. This research is expected to provide recommendations to educational institutions for better planning in student assessments, thereby increasing the probability of students being admitted to state universities.

Abstract

Renewable energy is a key solution to meeting the growing demand for electricity while reducing reliance on non-renewable sources. Among various renewable technologies, photovoltaic (PV) systems are widely used in solar power plants (PLTS) to harness solar energy. However, PV efficiency is affected by environmental factors such as fluctuating solar irradiance and temperature, which cause instability in output voltage and power. To address these issues, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques are applied to optimize power extraction. This study proposes the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm for MPPT and evaluates its performance through MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations under varying irradiance and temperature conditions. Inspired by the hunting behavior and social hierarchy of grey wolves, GWO dynamically adjusts the converter's duty cycle based on real-time voltage and current measurements to maximize output power. The study focuses on PV systems in Malang, Indonesia, and compares GWO with the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method in terms of accuracy and stability. The results indicate that increased solar irradiance substantially enhances PV power output, while rising temperatures tend to reduce efficiency. The GWO algorithm achieves an average tracking accuracy of 94.5632%, slightly lower than the 96.9851% achieved by PSO. However, GWO demonstrates superior performance in terms of stability, with faster convergence and reduced oscillations during the tracking process. A comparison of system performance before and after applying the GWO method shows notable improvements in tracking consistency and power extraction efficiency, especially under dynamic environmental changes. The novelty of this study lies in its use of real-world environmental data collected over a 30-day period in a tropical setting, which is rarely addressed in previous GWO-based MPPT research. These findings highlight the potential of the GWO-based MPPT strategy to enhance PV system reliability and efficiency in real-time renewable energy applications.

Abstract

The depletion of fossil fuels has driven significant changes in the global electricity system. Solar Power Plants (PLTS) as a renewable energy source have shown the potential to contribute up to 25% of global electricity generation by 2050. The electricity system often experiences disturbances that can affect its performance and reliability. This study examines the performance of a 1.2 kW hybrid PV system under various load conditions. The system was tested with load variations of 2%, 7%, 22%, and 26% to assess its efficiency and performance. Despite a slight voltage drop of 4V Vac (-1.82%) at higher loads, the hybrid PV system consistently maintained a voltage range of 216-220V Vac, which meets the standard requirements. The system demonstrated high efficiency, averaging over 95%, with a peak efficiency reaching 98.5% at 2% load. These results confirm the effectiveness, safety, and reliability of the system under various load conditions. The findings are based on direct testing and measurements of a 1.2 kW hybrid PV system to evaluate the impact of load variations on its performance. The 1.2 kW hybrid PV system has been proven to be effective, safe and reliable in the face of load variations. These findings support the potential implementation of hybrid PV systems as a future renewable energy solution in the electricity sector

Abstract

This study evaluates the performance of a pico-hydro system installed on a river with low head and discharge. The system was assessed under no-load and varying load conditions (25–100%). The results indicate that the generator performs according to the initial design, despite some fluctuations in output parameters. Under no-load conditions, the generator maintains a stable output voltage between 12–14 VAC, with a rotational speed of 590–600 RPM, a system frequency of 59–60 Hz, and zero current. The step-up transformer successfully raises the voltage to 220–222 V with high stability, although minor ripple is observed in the output signal. Under load, the generator voltage slightly decreases to 12–14 V as the load increases. The rotational speed also declines (560–590 RPM), affecting frequency stability, which drops from 59 Hz at 25% load to 56 Hz at full load. The current rises proportionally with the load, from 0.10 A at 25% to 0.45 A at 100%. The observed performance drop under load highlights the effect of load on generator speed and overall system output. The primary impacts of the 25–100% load range are evident in generator speed, frequency stability, and waveform quality. Overall, the system performs satisfactorily for low-head pico-hydro applications with a power capacity of up to 100 Watts, suitable for rural street lighting.

Abstract

Abstract

Efficient energy management in Internet of Things (IoT) devices is critical in dynamic, resource-constrained operational environments. This study proposes the Queen Honey Bee Migration (QHBM) optimization algorithm for managing Li-ion battery performance in IoT systems, employing the Shepherd battery model to simulate the nonlinear discharge behavior under varying load conditions. Three simulation scenarios of increasing complexity (5, 10, and 20 monitoring points) are used to represent urban operational dynamics. The performance of QHBM is quantitatively compared with four conventional optimization algorithms seperti Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Differential Evolution (DE), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Firefly Algorithm (FA). Results show that QHBM maintains a current range of 3.80–5.20 A and a voltage range of 3.65–3.95 V, with State of Charge (SoC) predictions between 75–98%. It also achieves the fastest computation time (0.42–1.20 seconds) and demonstrates more stable performance under high-load dynamic scenarios compared to the other methods. This approach provides an adaptive and efficient optimization framework to support energy-aware decision-making in IoT systems operating in energy-constrained urban environments.

Abstract

The primary challenge for rural coffee agribusiness in Dilem Wilis Valley, Trenggalek, is inconsistent bean quality due to manual sorting. An automated sorting system based on Smart Camera and AI was developed for real-time classification of coffee beans based on visual parameters like color and size. Designed with a Raspberry Pi, camera sensor, and CNN algorithm , its implementation involved participatory collaboration between researchers and local farmers. We used 500 training data acquired from the application for our CNN model training. Field trials showed the system reduced sorting time from 45 to 15 minutes per kg, increased selection accuracy from 75% to 94%, and doubled daily productivity.
