Abstract

Fish farming technology is progressively advancing in the techniques utilized and the rearing media. A tarpaulin tank is reasonably simple and inexpensive. Therefore, it is suitable for those seeking to cultivate fish with constrained land and financial resources. This project aims to train the stakeholders - in this case, members of the "Mula Mele Bersih" farmer group - to construct tarpaulin ponds that can be used to cultivate tilapia using the recirculation-biofloc system. This training involved 12 farmer group members in Gondang Village, Gangga District, North Lombok Regency. This community service activity began with socialization, counseling, materials and equipment provision, tarpaulin pond assembly, water installations, aeration installations, and pond trials. The materials used were tarpaulin, 6 mm wire mesh, aeration hoses, water hoses, air diffusers, tarpaulin, various sizes of pipe, and water taps. The equipment needed was a hot gun, cutting tools, and a drill. The training was carried out accompanied by a demonstration. This activity produced 5 tarpaulin ponds that were ready for tilapia cultivation using the recirculation-biofloc system. The activity began with making the pond base, assembling the frame, installing the tarpaulin and tarpaulin protectors, installing aeration, and making a sedimentation place. The fact that partners successfully created ponds indicates that the pond is simple, easy to construct, and easy for other communities to replicate.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of dietary supplementation with Eichhornia crassipes leaf extract on the growth performance and hematological parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins, with moderate antioxidant activity (50.89% DPPH inhibition). Experimental treatments showed that fish receiving moderate levels of the extract had significantly higher erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, indicating improved oxygen transport and immune function. Additionally, the group with the highest absolute weight gain suggests better nutrient absorption. All treatments maintained a 100% survival rate and stable water quality, confirming the extract’s safety and environmental compatibility. These results support the use of E. crassipes as a sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic growth promoters in aquaculture. Further research is recommended to investigate its long-term effects and mechanisms of action.

Abstract

The coastal area of Lembar District, West Lombok, has great potential in cultivating marine ornamental fish such as clownfish and blue tang, but water pollution due to Lembar Port activities has caused a decline in water quality and low fish survival. This community service aims to increase the capacity of farmers in managing water quality through the application of protein skimmer technology, a tool that can remove dissolved organic particles from seawater. The activity was carried out in six stages, namely location survey, socialization, training, technology application, mentoring and evaluation, and program sustainability. The results of the activity showed that partners experienced an increase in understanding of the importance of water quality and skills in using protein skimmers. In addition, the condition of the cultivation environment became more stable and supported the growth of ornamental fish. With a participatory approach and the application of appropriate technology, this activity was able to provide a positive impact. This program is expected to be a pilot model for other coastal areas in the development of sustainable marine ornamental fish cultivation.

Abstract

Plastic is the material most widely used by humans in life and commercial activities. The plastic waste used will ultimately be disposed of into the aquatic environment. Floating particles of plastic waste accumulate in pelagic habitats and form large waste patches. Meanwhile, non-floating debris degrades in the water column and in sediment, forming microplastics. Microplastics are small plastic waste measuring <5 mm. One type of microplastic that has an adverse impact on the life of organisms in waters is polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The aim of this research is to determine the effect of polyvinyl chloride microplastic exposed on haematological of tilapia, so it is hoped that a solution will emerge that can deal with this microplastic problem. This study was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of four treatments with three replications. The treatments were as follows: MP0 = No addition of microplastics (control); MP1 = Addition of 5 mg/L microplastics; MP2 = Addition of 15 mg/L microplastics; MP3 = Addition of 20 mg/L microplastics. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25, with results expressed as mean ± standard error, and differences between control and treatments assessed by one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s multiple range test at a significance level of P<0.05. The conclusion is exposure to polyvinyl chloride microplastics on the haematological of tilapia through water made a real difference to erythrocytes, leukocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, hematocrit, haemoglobin, and glucose.

Abstract

Aeromonas hydrophila is a pathogenic bacterium that often causes disease in freshwater fish, thus impacting food insecurity and global economic losses. Biofilm formation by A. hydrophila regulated by the quorum sensing (QS) system plays an important role in increasing virulence and resistance to antibiotics. Inhibiting the QS system can be an option to control A. hydrophila infection in fish. One of the ingredients that can be used is octopus ink extract containing alkaloids. This study aims to analyze the potential of octopus ink extract as an anti-quorum sensing agent in preventing the formation of A. hydrophila biofilms in aquaculture. The method used is a systematic literature study by collecting data from scientific articles. The analysis was carried out in depth to evaluate the mechanism of octopus ink extract in inhibiting QS and bacterial biofilms. The results showed that active compounds in octopus ink, such as alkaloids, can inhibit communication between bacterial cells by blocking QS autoinducers. This process suppresses the expression of virulence genes and prevents biofilm formation without affecting bacterial viability, so the risk of antibiotic resistance can be minimized. In conclusion, octopus ink extract has great potential as an anti-quorum sensing agent to support the management of A. hydrophila infection in aquaculture. The use of this extract is not only effective but also environmentally friendly, offering an innovative solution to improve the health of farmed fish and the sustainability of the aquaculture industry. Furthermore, octopus ink extract can be used as an immunostimulant in aquaculture industry.
