Abstract

Small talk is light-hearted conversation that is usually done to cure boredom or to start a conversation with someone new. Usually, the topics discussed in small talk are not very deep or serious, such as the weather, daily activities, or hobbies. The main purpose of small talk is to build intimacy or rapport with others. This research aims to find out the effect of small talk in introducing personal branding and how to make small talk with the public to introduce personal branding. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods in analyzing data. There are two sources used, namely Primary and secondary. According to Peter Montoya in Haroen (2014) there are 8 personal branding concepts that must exist in a public figure, including The Law of Visibility, The Law of Specialization, The Law of Unity, The Law of Leadership, The Law of Persistence, The Law of Personality, The Law of GoodWill, and The Law of Distinctiveness. Abstract

The design of research used is qualitative research. According to Bogdan and Taylor (2022), qualitative research is a research procedure that is capable of producing descriptive data in the form of speech, writing and behavior of people being observed. This qualitative research aims to understand the status of the context to guide the interpretation of detailed and in-depth descriptions of natural conditions, based on existing reality. According to Strauss and Corbin (in Faridah Nugrahani 2014) qualitative research is a type of research whose findings are not obtained through statistical procedures or other forms of computing. Qualitative research produces descriptive data that describes the subject's situation in words and pictures, not numbers. The 2020 film challenges societal stereotypes that portray women as weak, unreliable, or incapable of learning self-defense. Instead, it presents women as strong, intelligent, and determined, demonstrating courage and resilience. The research also indicates that the film maintains a balance between showcasing feminist themes and preserving traditional feminine qualities. This is evident in Mulan's style, clothing, and her emotional response when she is expelled from the regiment. Keywords— Representation, and Feminism from the Main Character in Mulan Movie.

Abstract

Students with dyslexia require individual learning approaches due todifferent mastery and engagement levels. The conventional approach couldnot adjust the learning style automatically and burdened the teacher, especially in bigger class sizes. We proposed an adaptive learning model forstudents with dyslexia (ALMo-DML) that personalized the learning basedon the mastery level and behavior. ALMo-DML can retain the studentslonger using adaptive elements. This paper examines the effectiveness of theALMo-DML prototype in increasing student engagement by comparing itwith MyLexic, non-adaptive learning using a quasi-experiment. Theparameters involve on-task/off-task behavior, time spent, and usability test.Descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, software usability scale (SUS), andobservation forms were used to measure the engagement parameters. Theresult shows a longer on-task time with an average of 22 minutes when usingthe ALMo-DML prototype compared to the non-adaptive application withonly 12 minutes (p-value<0.05) using the Mann-Whitney U test. Besides, observation data support the finding indicating engagement from gestures, keyboard, and mouse clicks. This study proved that ALMo-DML showed apositive effect on the engagement of students with dyslexia compared withnon-adaptive learning. Hence, ALMo-DML is highly recommended as asupporting material in helping students with dyslexia.
