Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the measurement of LAZ performance in the transformation of entitled to receive Zakat empowerment using the Islamic Performance Index (IPI) model at the Amil Zakat Institution Dompet Dhuafa North Sumatra. This type of research is field research using a comparative descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The research population was 1838, and they were entitled to receive Zakat in 2022. The sample used was 329 Entitled to Receive Zakat. The analysis technique used in this research is the Islamic Performance Index (IPI), which is the indicator used to determine the condition of entitled-to-receive Zakat households. The results of this study indicate that the IPI model can be used to measure amil Zakat institutions' performance in empowering entitled to receive Zakat welfare. Even so, in this study, the increase in material income is not very significant. This happens because the entitled to receive Zakat used as a sample of respondents are consumptive beneficiaries or ZIS, so it does not significantly increase the entitled to receive Zakat income at LAZ Dompet Dhuafa Waspada. In comparison, the increase in the number of people entitled to receive Zakat religiosity looks very significant after receiving Zakat, infaq, and sadaqah.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) assess the performance of Islamic Commercial Banks (BUS) and Sharia Business Units (UUS) within Regional Development Banks (BPD) in Indonesia during 2022–2023 through the lens of the Sharia Maqasid Index (SMI); (2) evaluate their performance from the perspective of Sustainable Finance; and (3) compare the performance of BUS and UUS based on both analytical frameworks. A quantitative-descriptive method was employed, utilizing a document study approach. Data were collected from the annual reports of BUS and UUS at BPDs during the 2022–2023 period and analyzed using SMI indicators and Sustainable Finance principles. A weighted scoring and ranking technique based on Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) was applied to measure performance. The findings reveal that BUS and UUS experienced significant improvement in SMI performance, particularly in the dimensions of education (tahdz?b al-fard) and socio-economic contribution (jalb al-ma?la?ah). Banks such as NTB Syariah and Aceh Syariah excelled in maq??id based financing and zakat distribution, while UUS in Central Java and Nagari demonstrated strength in educational initiatives and social justice. In terms of Sustainable Finance, all banks fulfilled the four key indicators sustainable development, green economy, social responsibility, and separate sustainability reporting. However, most reports remained descriptive and lacked impact-based metrics. Overall, BUS exhibited stronger performance than UUS in integrating both maq??id principles and sustainability practices. These results highlight the need to strengthen performance evaluation frameworks grounded in Sharia values and sustainability to support the transformation of Islamic regional banks into inclusive and impactful institutions.

Abstract

This study explores the concept and practice of criminal responsibility for individuals with mental disabilities in Indonesia through an interdisciplinary lens that integrates doctrinal legal analysis, information literacy, and Islamic legal principles, particularly Maqashid al-Syariah. The research aims to (1) examine the legal construction of criminal liability for people with mental disabilities under Indonesian law, (2) assess the role of information literacy in legal processes involving such individuals, and (3) analyze the alignment of Indonesian legal practices with Islamic principles of justice, proportionality, and human dignity. Employing a normative legal research method, this study utilizes statute, case, and comparative approaches to analyze laws, court decisions, and scholarly interpretations. The findings reveal persistent inconsistencies in how courts assess mental incapacity, often relying on inadequate psychiatric evaluations and failing to apply protections guaranteed by Law No. 8 of 2016 and the revised Criminal Code (KUHP Articles 38–39). Additionally, the study highlights a significant gap in information literacy among legal actors and affected families, exacerbating procedural injustice. The case of a schizophrenic defendant in South Sulawesi illustrates how the lack of accessible legal information and contextual assessment leads to human rights violations. The research concludes that integrating Maqashid al-Syariah—particularly the principle of hifz al-‘aql (preservation of intellect)—with enhanced information literacy frameworks offers a more just, inclusive, and humane approach to criminal responsibility. Legal reform, public legal education, and individualized assessment are critical to ensuring that the rights and dignity of mentally disabled individuals are upheld within Indonesia’s justice system.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to measure the performance of the Dompet Dhuafa North Sumatra Zakat collection institution in the transformation of mustahiq empowerment using the Islamic performance index (IPI) model. Method – This type of research is field research using a comparative descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Primary data was obtained through online and offline questionnaires. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from the annual report of the Dompet Dhuafa North Sumatra Zakat institution. The research population was 1896 Mustahiq in 2023. Using Slovin's formula, the sample size was 330 mustahiq. The analysis technique used in this study is the IPI model. Findings – The findings of this study demonstrate that the IPI model is applicable for assessing the performance of amil zakat institutions in enhancing the welfare of mustahiq. Nevertheless, in this study, the augmentation of material income is negligible, specifically, 25 mustahiq among 330 respondents. The increase in mustahiq religiosity significantly after acquiring zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, encompassing 316 mustahiq individuals. Implications – This research makes an important contribution to the literature on sharia-based zakat management by introducing the IPI model as a more holistic and integrated evaluation tool. On the practical side, the findings of this research provide valuable guidance for zakat institutions in designing more impactful and sustainable mustahiq empowerment programs.

Abstract

THE PERSPECTIVE  OF THE ISLAMIC  LAW PHILOSOPHY TOWARD THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATION  OF SPOUSE INMARRIAGE: The question appears: Can law in family describe the Fiqh by reviewing the interpretation of the texts of the Qur’an and hadith?  The  explanation  in Lughawiyah, Istishlahiyah  and Ta’liliyah  is that the Islamic law is elastic which can constantly change by time, condition,  and location.  The Islamic law is not rigid. It comes to bring the live for human being. The law is not based on the book, fiqh, or other source by the lecturers or other people. In a relationship, rights and obligation of spouse has been illustrated clearly. Later, many people think that the interpretation is not  satisfying.  The  previous  time and recent  time  has been different and changing, different places, different cultures. Even it’s possible that the opinion of the previous interpretation is not always right.

Abstract

Digital transformation is pushing retail businesses to adapt their marketing strategies through social media. This study analyzes the integration of social media by SMB MMTC and identifies the opportunities and challenges faced. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation at the supermarket located in Medan City. The results show that Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook play a strategic role in expanding market reach, increasing engagement, and strengthening local branding. Challenges include limited human resources, algorithm changes, restricted promotional budgets, and a lack of data-driven evaluation. From an Islamic economic perspective, business practices align with Sharia principles, including transparency, honesty, and freedom from usury and uncertainty. This study concludes that social media functions as both a promotional tool and an interactive platform, with the success of transformation determined by internal readiness, content innovation, and support from a sustainable digital ecosystem. Public Interest Statement: This research is important for the public because it provides insights into how local retail businesses, such as SMB MMTC, can effectively utilize social media to expand their market, increase interaction with consumers, and implement marketing strategies that are in line with Islamic economic principles in the era of digital transformation.
