Abstract

In a successful college can not be forgotten the existence of this one factor is the lecturer. Lecturers are the key to success in universities to educate students and students to be useful for the nation and the nation in the future. Some of the lecturers' duties include teaching, research and community service often mentioned by Tri Darma Perguruaan Tinggi. Of the three obligations of a lecturer is asked to have the ability to write skills such as Reports, Theses, Theses, Dissertations, Books, Articles and others. However, to be able to write well it is necessary to practice continuously and know the tools to write one is the tool for the citation and bibliography. Therefore required tools / applications that can help lecturers to write citations and bibliography. Mendeley is an application that can be used to write citations and bibliography but not all lecturers can use this application. Methods in an effort to improve the ability to write lecturers do with several stages of lecture training materials / workshops about the contents of the introduction of Mendeley applications and videos about the ease of using this application, Practice using Mendeley application, Provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions or discussions about the material submitted, Conducting a survey to evaluate is done by spreading Pretest & Posttest quizoner with success indicator of success level understanding of participants in this program is 80%. The result of this activity proves that the lecturer can improve his writing ability is very positive for the development of lecturers expertise in making scientific research work.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the construction and design of dragon traps used by fishermen in Insit Village, Tebing Tinggi Barat Sub-district, Meranti Islands Regency, Riau Province. Dragon traps are passive and environmentally friendly fishing gear that have only been used since 2022, primarily targeting shrimp, with bycatch including fish and crabs. The research was conducted over two weeks from August 26 to September 9, 2024, using survey and field observation methods. Data were collected through direct measurements of the fishing gear, interviews with fishermen, and visual documentation. The results showed that the dragon traps have a total length of 15 meters, with the main structure consisting of 36 galvanized iron frames. The trap body is made of polyethene (PE) netting with a mesh size of 0.5 inches, measuring 40 cm in length, 45 cm in width, and 30 cm in height. It has 32 entry holes (ijep) arranged alternately. Other components include two catch-holding chambers measuring 50 cm in length, 38 cm in width, and 25 cm in height, PE binding ropes, and 5-meter-long stakes. The fishing location is in shallow, muddy waters with a depth of 2–3 meters and approximately 150 meters from the shoreline. During the study, the dragon traps caught 120 kg of white shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis) out of a total catch of 149 kg. This indicates that the bubu naga is quite effective in capturing shrimp as its main target species.

Abstract

African catfish are a species of fish commonly found in various aquatic environments. Fishermen employ diverse methods to catch fish in seas, rivers, and swamps, utilizing eco-friendly and non-eco-friendly tools. One such tool is electrofishing. Fish behavior is influenced by their ability to adapt to their environment. One observable aspect is the African catfish's swimming patterns and endurance in a research pond. This study was conducted in April 2024 at the Fishing Gear Materials Laboratory, Department of Aquatic Resource Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Riau. The research utilized an experimental method, with data collected directly in the Laboratory. African catfish were used as test subjects with a 12-volt electric fishing gear. The results showed that at a treatment distance of 30 cm, the fish required an average of 3,5 seconds to respond to the electric current. The use of electrofishing gear has been proven to cause negative physiological responses, including fainting, external injuries, and mucus release in African catfish, which has implications for the sustainability of the African catfish population. After electrofishing, the condition of the fish showed injuries and fin loss on their bodies, resulting in some fish dying during recovery, although the number of dead fish was fewer than the number of surviving fish

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the impact of the policy to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 11% to 12% on people's purchasing power and domestic economic inflation in Indonesia. This policy was implemented in order to increase state revenue, but it has economic consequences that need to be examined empirically. The VAT rate increase directly drives up the prices of consumer goods and services, which can reduce household consumption, especially among low-income groups. In a macroeconomic context, a decline in household consumption — which accounts for more than 50% of gross domestic product (GDP) — has the potential to slow economic growth. In addition, the VAT increase also drives cost-push inflation due to price adjustments at the producer and consumer levels. Using a descriptive approach and empirical literature study, this research finds that even though the rate increase is only 1%, its impact on purchasing power and inflation is quite significant, thus requiring supporting policies to maintain economic stability and protect vulnerable groups. Keywords: VAT, purchasing power, inflation, household consumption, fiscal policy
