Abstract

The process of making a barecore still uses traditional and simple human labor and machining technology. In the production process, there are several sources of danger found, namely: machines used, work attitudes, work methods, raw materials, and the resulting sawdust disturbs environmental quality. This study aims to identify, assess the risk of hazards in the production process as well as corrective actions to control hazards using the Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) method. The research steps were hazard identification, risk assessment and corrective action. For hazard risk assessment, the OHS Risk Assessment method is used. The results of this study found that there are four sources of danger, namely the work environment, humans, materials, and machines. The results of the risk assessment calculation obtained three risk values, namely low risk with the number of findings of 13 potential hazards, medium risk with the number of findings of 78 potential hazards and high risk with the number of findings of two potential hazards. Risk control efforts to reduce potential hazards can be done by: using personal protective equipment, adding boxes as wooden material containers, making standard operating procedures, and providing first aid facilities.

Abstract

The manual material handling (MMH) activity of making bricks causes workers to use energy throughout their body to do work so that it can pose a potential ergonomic hazard. Ergonomics hazards caused are fatigue in the muscles due to repetitive movements, poor work posture, too heavy load, inadequate tools, unsupportive environmental conditions. Complaints of Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) that accumulate will have a major impact on bone structure disorders and muscle disorders. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ergonomic risks and complaints of MSDs in MMH activities using a trolley. The research method used is the risk assessment of pushing and pulling (RAPP) tool and Nordic body map (NBM). The RAPP Tool consists of 9 assessments with a rating scale of good, reasonable, poor and unacceptable. Furthermore, using the NBM which mapped 28 body parts with a rating scale of no pain, moderately ill, sick and very sick. The results of the study contained 3 assessments of the RAPP Tool with the highest score, including floor surface, posture, and condition of the tool. The results of the NBM found that the body parts that often felt complaints were the back, waist, buttocks, left knee, right knee, left leg and right leg. The conclusion is that workers with high RAPP scores have an impact on high levels of muscle complaints so that improvements need to be made immediately to reduce ergonomic risks to workers.

Abstract

This research was carried out in Batik Cap production in Surakarta, Indonesia. Creating and producing batik is still done manually with non-ergonomic work postures and repetitive movements that can cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The study aimed to determine the risk level of injury of MSDs in the work posture that focuses on the upper body and analyze the risk factors of muscle injury with different upper body regions. Data collection used five workstations with 22 activities for Batik Cap workers. Data analysis used the Plan for Identifiering av. Belastningsfaktorer (PLIBEL) checklist and the Quick Exposure Checklist (QEC) method. The results of the PLIBEL checklist show six activities included in the fair category, 14 in the moderate category, and two in the substantial category. The QEC method results show 20 activities in the action level 3 category, which means further investigated and changes are needed. Two activities in category 4 mean that investigation and change need to be done as soon as possible. In conclusion, the result shows that redesigning and designing work facilities is expected to reduce workers’ muscle injury risk, especially in the back, neck, elbow, forearm, and hands which can cause MSDs.

Abstract

This study was carried out at SME for the purpose of making leather shoes in the manufacturing process. Pattern, upper printing, finishing, and 16 other workstations are among the three workstations. Production operations are performed manually in a seated position that includes squatting, bending, or standing position that is repeated, and workers operate at average to rapid speeds for 7 hours each day. This signifies that the action is hazardous and may result in Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). The Job Strain Index (JSI) and Muscle Fatigue Assessment (MFA) methodologies will be used in this study to identify working posture conditions. The MFA method is used to analyze the level of effort, duration of labor, and frequency of work motions in order to determine muscle tiredness in each section of the worker's body. The 14 activities were subjected to the JSI method investigation, and the high risk was achieved by printing the top right hand SI 20.25 and installing the right-hand sole 13.5. The MFA approach was used to accept high to extremely high-risk body parts, such as the back, neck, and right hand, and make recommendations for how to reduce muscle fatigue in each body part. The findings of this study can be used to improve the upper printing station's design, as well as the table design for designing and drawing patterns and the chair design for sewing activities.

Abstract

One of the medicinal Zingiberaceae plants which is regularly used by the society as a traditional remedy is turmeric rhizome. The pharmacological properties of turmeric rhizome include anti-inflammatory, anti-immunodeficiency, anti-viral. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-infectious. This study aimed to identify the immunomodulator activity of curcuminoid extract of turmeric rhizome against the increase of leucocyte and its components, lymphocyte and neutrophil in white Galur Wistar rats that had been injected with Staphylococcus aureus. These test animals were given curcuminoid extract in VCO 100 mg/ml on a dosage of 1 ml, 0,5 ml, 0,25 ml curcuminoid powder 200 mg/kg body weight. Curcuminoid was suspended in Na CMC0,5%, Levamisole 25 mg/kg of body weight suspended in Na CMC 0,5%, VCO 1 ml. For the negative control, merely Na CMC 0,5% was given. The extract was orally given daily for 14 days. On the 4th day, Staphylococcus aureus was injected intra-peritoneally. The rats’ blood was then drawn from the heart and was observed to calculate the volume of the leucocytes, lymphocyte, and neutrophil which was conducted using flow cytometry. The findings suggested that there was a significant difference between the immunomodulatory activity of the curcuminoid extract in VCO at the doses of 1 ml, 0,5 ml, 0,25 ml on the increase in leucocyte, lymphocyte, and neutrophil compared to that of the negative control. Therefore, the findings of this study indicated that the extracts of curcuminoid in VCO could increase the number of leucocytes, lymphocytes, and neutrophils. Thus, the curcuminoid extract of turmeric rhizome in VCO potentially possessed immunomodulatory activity.
