Abstract

Air is a mixture of gases that surrounds the earth and is an important part of the atmosphere. Air is colorless, odorless, and invisible to the naked eye, but it has mass and volume. Air supports life on earth, providing oxygen for living things, and plays a vital role in various natural processes. Air pollution is currently receiving considerable attention, especially in developing countries and cities with increasing industrialization. Increasing air pollution has a negative impact on human health due to exposure to air pollution. Smelters are where various nickel is processed. Nickel is a strong, corrosion-resistant metal with magnetic properties. Found in various ores, especially laterite and sulfide, nickel is often used in the manufacture of rubber-resistant steel and various industrial products. The nickel mining and processing process can produce pollution through mechanisms involving gas and particle emissions. Air pollution produced by nickel originates from the production process involving the processing of nickel ore which is processed through heating at high temperatures to produce ferronickel or pure nickel. In the area around the PT. Vale Sorowako Luwu Timur industry, there is a high potential for air pollution and health problems originating from nickel industry activities. Health problems can affect the body where particulate matter 10 (PM10) and particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) can enter the respiratory tract and reach the lungs and bloodstream which can cause respiratory problems. This study aims to determine the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 in nickel ore processing production, smelting processes, and workers' rooms at PT Vale Sorowako Luwu Timur. The type of research is descriptive with samples used in the study amounting to 9 measurement points from 3 parts of the smelter factory production. The results of the study showed that the average concentration of PM10 in nickel ore processing production was 1325 µg/m³, the smelting process was 1257 µg/m³, and the workers' room was 1592 µg/m³. and the average concentration of PM2.5 in nickel ore processing production was 555 µg/m³, the smelting process was 764 µg/m³, and the work room was 924 µg/m³. The two highest values were found in the workers' room. Therefore, this study recommends improving ventilation and air filtration systems throughout the production area and conducting regular air quality monitoring.

Abstract

The Cempaka Subdistrict in Banjarbaru City faces several maternal and child health challenges, including low awareness of clean and healthy living behaviors, limited antenatal care visits, anemia among pregnant women and adolescents, suboptimal exclusive breastfeeding practices, incomplete basic immunization, and inadequate neonatal care knowledge. These problems are compounded by limited access to health services and varying levels of health literacy within the community. This community service program, Germas Berlian (Community Movement to Empower Families for Maternal and Child Health through Neurobehavioral, Social, and Cultural Approaches), aims to enhance community knowledge, skills, and health practices across the life cycle. The activities included coordination and field observation, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), integrated health education, health screenings for pregnant women, adolescents, and toddlers, capacity-building training, and home visits for prioritized families. Post-intervention evaluations demonstrated significant improvements in participants’ knowledge, nutritional awareness, health practices, and screening outcomes. The program highlights the effectiveness of integrated and culturally appropriate educational interventions to empower families and improve maternal and child health in underserved areas.

Abstract

Background: The use of partographs in obstetric care is an important topic, especially in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia, which face high maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Objective: This study aimed to explore and analyze factors influencing midwives' use of the partograph for early detection of labor complications. Methods: This study employed a non-experimental quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design to analyze factors influencing partograph use by midwives. The study population was 135 midwives in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency, with a sample of 101 midwives determined using a simple random sampling technique. The dependent variable was partograph utilization, while the independent variables included midwives' knowledge, attitudes, motivation, perception of supervision, training, length of service, age, and education level. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and observation sheet. Data analysis used the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression to identify relationships between variables influencing partograph utilization. Results: The education was significantly associated with partograph utilization (p=0.001; OR 6.0), with midwives with higher education being more likely to use it. Conversely, length of service ≥5 years was associated with decreased partograph utilization (p=0.000; OR 0.05). In addition, motivation (p=0.002; OR 1.6) and supervision (p=0.032; OR 1.7) also positively influenced partograph use. The logistic regression model showed that higher education increased the probability of partograph use (Exp(B)=11.172), while longer work experience decreased the probability (Exp(B)=0.028). Conclusion: Higher education significantly increased partograph use, while work experience above 5 years decreased its use. Motivation and supervision also positively contributed to optimal partograph use.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of the global economy, including in Indonesia, has encouraged the public to be more selective in choosing financial institutions that meet their individual or organizational fund management needs. In this context, society is faced with the choice between conventional banks and Islamic banks. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the decision of the Muslim community in Dusun Rantau Rasau to use conventional banking services and to explore the reasons behind their non-use of Islamic banks. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through field research. Primary data were obtained through direct interviews and observation, while secondary data were sourced from books, journals, and historical records of Dusun Rantau Rasau. The results reveal that five main factors influence the preference for conventional banks: knowledge, social influence, promotion, culture, and ease of access. Meanwhile, the predominant reasons for not choosing Islamic banks include limited knowledge and minimal promotional exposure. Additionally, informants emphasized that loyalty and a broader understanding of conventional banking services significantly affect their preferences. In conclusion, knowledge stands out as a crucial factor in financial institution selection, followed by loyalty and exposure to promotional strategies.
