Abstract

The availability of clean water is an essential element for supporting the life cycle and sustainable development. The efficiency of providing raw water sources is an important factor for adequate water quantity and quality. This study examines the effectiveness of alum compared with coal-based activated carbon in the removal of Fe, Mn, and turbidity in raw water from the Lematang River, Muara Enim Regency. Activated carbon in this study was produced using a KOH activator with varying activation temperatures (700 °C, 800 °C, and 900 °C). The research results showed that the quality of the third activated carbon met the active carbon quality standards (moisture, ash content, Methylene blue dye and iodine adsorption capacity), but the activated carbon with activation at a temperature of 800 °C had the largest surface area. Activated carbon was proven more effective in reducing Fe and Mn concentrations than alum, while alum was superior in reducing turbidity. After three cycles of activated carbon regeneration, the reduction in Fe and Mn remained below 5%. These results show that activated carbon is a cost-effective and eco-friendly option for raw water treatment. Keywords: Coal, activated carbon, alum, raw water, regeneration

Abstract

This research aims to explore the model of interconnection between the Islamic Bank and Zakat Management Organisation, as the two represent the implementation of Islamic economics in Indonesia. Using the Group Method of Data Handling (GMHD) tool to discern the strength of the relationship between the two representative entities, Bank Muamalat Indonesia and Baitulmaal Muamalat, it also followed the hyper postphenomenology approach to sharpen the result by obtaining essential confirmation from key informants with respect to determining the ideal model. The result showed a robust and reciprocal correlation between the account variables and its influence was statistically significant. Furthermore, it was interpreted as an effort to improve the image of the banking system while providing added value, forms of corporate responsibility and a spirit of service to customers. The results led to convergence on the formulation of the ideal model, which depends on the moral intentions of the owners of capital, government alignment and the literacy of directors, control needs and public awareness. Thus, it bridges the findings of previous studies and recommends a model that inseparable moral economic instruments. Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the spatial and temporal variation of the tropospheric NO2 column compared with the economic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the satellite based tropospheric NO2 was acquired from the Aura Satellite during 2019-2021 over the South Sumatra region of Indonesia. The GIS analysis was conducted to produce the quarterly tropospheric NO2 map over the study area. In this study, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) was used as a benchmark for economic growth. The GRDP would relate to the air pollution to identify possible anthropogenically induced NO2 pollution. The result indicated the GRDP growth significantly decreased when the tropospheric NO2 concentration experienced a great reduction during 2020 (Quarters III-IV). The economic growth reduced from 5.79 to -1.58 during 2019-2020. It was noted that during the decline in GRDP, the variation of tropospheric NO2 was decreased by about 33%.

Abstract

The Sasak Muslim community in Lombok, Indonesia has a long history of interpreting the Qur’an in ways that reflect their unique social and cultural setting—especially through oral traditions and communal religious practices that date back to the 16th century. Despite this, most studies on Islam in Lombok have focused mainly on rituals, teachings, or the sociocultural differences between Islam Wetu Telu and Waktu Lima. What often gets overlooked is how these communities actually make sense of the Qur’an, and how their interpretations influence their religious identity or even contribute to tensions between groups. This study addresses that gap by looking closely at how Qur’anic interpretation works on the ground among Sasak Muslims. Using a qualitative approach—through field observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis—this research explores how different forms of tafsir have emerged within the Wetu Telu and Waktu Lima communities. It finds that Wetu Telu Muslims built their religious identity through oral interpretation, delivered by early preachers in simple, local language during the initial spread of Islam in Lombok at the end of the 16th century. Their approach tends to be flexible, adapting Qur’anic teachings to local traditions and values. In contrast, Waktu Lima Muslims developed a more textual and orthodox form of tafsir, rooted in classical Arabic commentaries brought home by Sasak scholars (tuan guru) who studied in the Middle East. They institutionalized this knowledge in pesantren, turning them into canters of formal Islamic learning. This study contributes to the growing field of tafsir studies by expanding the focus beyond written texts, showing that interpretation can also be oral, social, and embedded in everyday religious life. By comparing local and textual models of tafsir, this research offers a new way to understand how the authority of interpretation is shaped—and contested—within the diverse landscape of Indonesian Islam.
