Abstract

Until today, there are still more than 20% children under five years old experiencing stunting due to malnutrition over a long time both in Indonesia and also globally. Therefore, an integrated program is needed to reduce the prevalence of stunting. This study investigated the correlation between parenting patterns and family characteristics with stunting. A matched case-control design was used based on age. Up to 40 cases and 40 controls of mothers having toddlers aged 24-59 months were selected as samples using simple random sampling technique. This study was conducted in Seberang Ulu I Sub-District, Palembang City, from September to October 2020. The data that has been collected were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The result showed that stunted and normal toddlers were mostly from mothers with poor parenting patterns in terms of feeding (72.5% & 45.0%), hygiene and sanitation (35.0% & 32.5%), and health care (42.5% & 15.0%). In addition, more cases of stunting came from mothers with high school education and below, low-income, at least 4 family members, and having more than 1 toddler. Feeding pattern, health care pattern, and mother's education affect toddlers' growth. The risk of stunting was higher in toddlers raised by mothers with low education, with poor feeding and health care practices than else.

Abstract

Aerobic Capacity Measured by VO₂max as a Primary Indicator of Athlete Performance: Its Correlation with Body Composition and Dietary Patterns VO₂max, an essential indicator of athletic performance, is influenced by factors such as body composition and dietary patterns. However, the relationship between these factors and VO₂max in soccer athletes remains unclear. This study aims to analyze the correlation between dietary patterns, nutritional status, body composition, and VO₂max in soccer athletes in Palembang. The research utilized an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, involving 31 male athletes aged 15–22 years selected through purposive sampling. Data collection included anthropometric measurements, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), and the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Statistical analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to evaluate the relationship between independent variables and VO₂max. The results revealed significant correlations between muscle mass, carbohydrate intake, and protein intake with VO₂max (p < 0.05). Athletes with higher muscle mass and adequate carbohydrate and protein intake were more likely to achieve better VO₂max performance. Conversely, variables such as body fat percentage, energy intake, and fat intake showed no significant correlation with VO₂max (p > 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of optimizing muscle mass and maintaining a balanced diet, particularly adequate carbohydrate and protein intake, to enhance aerobic capacity in soccer athletes. Further research with larger sample sizes and controlled designs is recommended to validate these findings.

Abstract

Abstract Currently, sports performance in Indonesia, especially in football, remains unstable, with fluctuations in performance. One of the contributing factors to this decline is inadequate knowledge and attitudes regarding dietary patterns and nutritional status, which can negatively effect athletes' performance and consequently their achievements. Therefore, preventive efforts are needed, such as nutrition education that involves and stimulates curiosity through BOMAZIGA (Booklet Mahir Gizi Olahraga). This study aims to investigate the effect of nutrition education through the BOMAZIGA game on the knowledge and attitudes of football athletes in Palembang City. The research method used was a Quasi-Experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group approach, involving 80 respondents, consisting of 40 participants in the treatment group and 40 in the control group. Purposive sampling was employed to select the sample. The variables studied were knowledge and attitudes based on pre-test and post-test scores. The effect analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study indicated a significant improvement in knowledge about dietary patterns and nutritional status by 95.2% and a positive attitude improvement of 81% after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test for knowledge and attitudes showed p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention. The Mann-Whitney test showed p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), suggesting that nutrition education using the BOMAZIGA media had an effect on both knowledge and attitudes of athletes. The BOMAZIGA game proved to be an effective tool for improving knowledge and attitudes regarding dietary patterns and nutritional status, making it an efficient educational medium for delivering information to athletes.
