Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programs, including universal access to sexual and reproductive health services such as Family Planning (FP). This study aims to examine the factors influencing the use of long-term contraceptive methods among married women of reproductive age in urban areas of South Sumatra. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, using secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS). The sample consisted of 247 married women. Data were analyzed using logistic regression. In urban areas of South Sumatra, 13.8% of married women of reproductive age used long-term contraceptive methods. The use of these methods was significantly associated with the number of living children and employment status (p < 0.05). Among all variables, education was found to be the most strongly associated factor with the use of long-term contraceptive methods (p = 0.04; PR = 4.238, 95% CI: 1.070–16.779). Education plays a pivotal role in the use of long-term contraceptive methods. Enhancing knowledge and awareness about these methods significantly influences women’s decisions to adopt them.

Abstract

Background: The development of nutritious snack bars is expected to provide a viable solution for offering popular snacks that meet the nutritional needs of adolescents. Therefore, the development of locally sourced snack bars like Puanchi Bar, which substitutes fish glue flour, becomes a promising solution to support government nutrition programs. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the nutritional content and formulation accuracy of three snack bar formulations. Methods: The research design used in this study is a laboratory experimental design with proximate tests, including analysis of protein content, fat content, moisture content, ash content, and carbohydrate content. The study was conducted from May to November 2023 in three laboratories, using three snack bar formulations: F3, F6, and F9. This research utilizes both secondary and primary data. Secondary data was obtained from previous studies, while primary data was obtained through laboratory testing. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, Duncan, and Kruskal-Wallis testsResults: The results showed that formulation F9 has the highest overall nutritional content, particularly in protein and minerals, with an average protein content of 5,10%, ash content of 2,48%, and moisture content of 5,66%, which are higher than F3 and F6. Meanwhile, formulations F3 and F6 excel in carbohydrate and fat content, with F3 and F6 having carbohydrate levels of 64,52% and 64,73%, respectively. The fat content of F3 and F6 is 27,8% and 24,5%, respectively. Formulation F9 is considered more suitable for fulfilling protein and mineral needs, but attention must be given to its moisture content, which could affect shelf life. On the other hand, F3 and F6 are superior in taste and energy but require adjustments to their fat content to maintain a balanced nutritional profile. Conclusion: Formulation F9 is more suitable for meeting protein and mineral needs, while F3 and F6 are better for providing energy and preferred taste. Each formulation has different potential depending on specific nutritional requirements.

Abstract

Abstract Diarrhea cases are always in the top ten diseases that always appear in every health center. One of the causes is the lack of hygiene of food handlers. Several studies have stated that food handlers assume that clean hands are those that do not look dirty. This kind of thinking is a concern for the government regarding the health conditions of the community. In fact, invisible germs on the hands can still stick there. To correct the mistaken assumption that hands are clean only from the naked eye, it is necessary to conduct education with the Emo-Demo concept so that the community becomes more aware of the importance of washing hands with soap (CTPS). The purpose of this community service program (PKM) is to increase the knowledge and awareness of food handlers in implementing CTPS habits. The PKM method applied is in the form of counseling and emo-demo accompanied by evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The target is housewives in Babatan Saudagar Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The results of this PKM show that knowledge about CTPS before and after counseling has increased. The emo-demo concept also makes respondents more aware of the importance of CTPS even though hands look clean. Good practices and increased knowledge are expected to be a solution to reduce diarrhea cases at the household level and generally in Indonesia. Keywords: Emo-Demo; handwash; knowledge; food handler.

Abstract

The teenage phase is a crucial period in preparing to become a woman of childbearing age who is able to prepare for the health of future generations. Therefore, nutritional status and supporting factors for growth and development in adolescence are the focus of attention in sensitive nutrition interventions. One effort to improve adolescent nutrition is through providing snacks in the form of nutritious snack bars which are formulated using local food ingredients typical of the target area. The potential of snakehead fish which has a high protein content has been used as a traditional snack such as pempek, so efforts are needed to increase the use of snakehead fish as a snack bar product. The aim of this research was to carry out social mapping and develop local food-based products as an initial project in a sensitive nutrition intervention effort to accelerate stunting reduction. Social mapping related to teenagers was carried out on 100 young women at SMA Negeri 4 Palembang and product formulation was carried out at the Nutrition Laboratory, Faculty of Public Health, Sriwijaya University. The results of the social mapping research showed that 59 subjects (59%) were at risk of CED and 30 subjects (30%) had anemia. The snack bar formulation product most liked by the trained panelists was the snakehead fish formulation with the addition of gulo puan F3, F6 and F9. The product formulation most preferred by consumer panelists is the F3 formulation.
