Abstract

This study aims to utilize natural ingredients such as papaya leaves, bay leaves, lemongrass, mimosa leaves and garlic as environmentally friendly botanical insecticides in reducing the population of rice weevils (Sitophilus oryzae L). The method used is the experimental method and quantitative descriptive research, this study uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) pattern consisting of two factors, namely the dose factor and observation time. In this study there were 3 treatments and 2 replications, namely PI.T1, PI.T2 and P1.T3, and the results were obtained in the P1.T1 treatment with an average of 1 tail, PI.T2 with an average of 10 tails and PI.T3 with an average of 2 tails. Based on the observation time factor, the results were significant in the 24-hour treatment. Based on the research conducted, the results obtained were influenced by several factors, namely the dose and humidity factors. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that (1) administering a combination of herbal insecticide doses of papaya leaves, bay leaves, lemongrass, mimosa leaves and garlic and exposure time produced the highest results in the 24-hour treatment, (2) apart from the herbal insecticide dose and exposure time, humidity and temperature are also factors that influence rice weevil mortality.

Abstract

This study aims to explores blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels in Wistar rats exposed to synthetic and organic MSG to identify potential renoprotective effects. The study design involved a control group (K) that was fed a normal diet only, and six treatment groups (P1–P6) that received doses of organic or synthetic MSG at 60, 120, or 240 mg/kg BW for 19 days. Each group consisted of six rats. MSG was administered orally and BUN levels were measured using the colorimetric method. The results showed no significant difference in BUN levels between the control group and the treatment groups (p > 0.05). The highest BUN levels were found in the control group, while the lowest levels were found in the group that received the highest dose of synthetic MSG (240 mg/kg BW). Additionally, BUN levels were lower with organic MSG at 120 and 240 mg/kg BW than with the 60 mg/kg BW dose, suggesting that bioactive compounds in tempeh and pineapple bromelain may have renoprotective effects. While the lowest BUN levels were observed in the group receiving the highest dose of synthetic MSG (240 mg/kg BW), this may be due to reduced protein intake or other metabolic adaptations rather than safety factors. Synthetic MSG at a dose of 240 mg/kg BW produced the lowest BUN levels, which may indicate reduced protein intake or other metabolic adaptations, rather than safety factors.

Abstract

This study investigates how a multilingual parent's language ideologies influence and support their children's English language learning within the home environment. Using Spolsky’s Family Language Policy framework, this research explores how a single parent's beliefs about English shape language practices and exposure strategies. The primary objective of the study is to understand how parental ideologies translate into practical actions that foster children's English proficiency. A qualitative case study approach was adopted, involving in-depth interviews and observations with a single multilingual parent and her two children. Data focused on the parent's perspectives, routines, and decisions regarding English use at home. The findings reveal that the parent's positive beliefs about English as a tool for future success and social mobility motivated deliberate strategies to integrate the language into everyday life. These strategies included early exposure through English-language media, routine incorporation of English into conversations, and the flexible use of code-switching between English and Indonesian. While these practices provided a strong foundation for bilingual development, differences in exposure between siblings were observed due to challenges such as limited resources and varying parental availability. The older child demonstrated greater English fluency, benefiting from early and consistent exposure, while the younger child faced limited opportunities for language practice. The study concludes that parental language ideologies play a transformative role in shaping informal language learning opportunities. By aligning her beliefs with practical strategies, parents can create adaptive and supportive multilingual environments that foster English proficiency. These findings offer valuable insights for multilingual families seeking to balance language development with cultural and social integration in diverse contexts.

Abstract

Examining Indonesian Teacher Roles in EFL Classroom: Insights from Elementary Teacher Narratives. Objectives: Different roles have been attributed to teachers; from knowledge transmitter to caregiver. These roles are intertwined with one another and their complexity has attracted numerous researchers to investigate. In spite of the extensive literature and studies on teacher roles, very few studies have highlighted the complexity and changing roles of teachers from the insider point of view. This study explores the insider perspective of an elementary school teacher to gain clearer insights on teacher roles. Methods: The study focuses on how teachers narrate their roles as teachers and draw emerging themes from the narration. The data of this study were collected by semi-structured interviews, classroom observation, and document analysis. Findings: Through thematic analysis, the study reveals that the teacher played many roles from planning the materials, managing the class, monitoring and evaluating the students’ progress. Conclusion: These imply that teacher professional development and teacher competence become a concern in order to optimize the teachers’ roles. Keywords: Changing teachers’ roles; elementary school teachers’ roles; narrative inquiry.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202224

Abstract

Overcoming obesity which is increasing in the pandemic era. Obesity or overweight is an abnormality in the amount of body weight that results in excessive accumulation of body fat and can pose a risk of other diseases. This also affects the supply of the number of erythrocytes that enter the body. This study aims to determine the number of erythrocytes of obese white rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were sounded with a combination of pouring tuber glucomannan (Amorphophallus mulleri Blume) and moringa leaf extract. This research method used a true experimental which was prepared using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in the form of a Posttest Only Control Design. The data obtained were analyzed using One Way ANOVA SPSS version 20 followed by the DMRT test. The results of this study indicated that the combination of pouring tuber glucomannan and moringa leaf extract affected increasing the number of erythrocytes in obese white rats. Administration of pouring tuber glucomannan and moringa leaf extract increased the number of erythrocytes, with the order of increasing P7 (60:40), P5 (80:120), and P3 (100:100). With these results, it can be concluded that the combination of pouring tuber with moringa leaf extract is effective in increasing the number of erythrocytes in obese people.

Abstract

Living things have a fluid that flows throughout the body, namely blood. Blood contains blood cells as well as a fluid called blood plasma. Plasma is a mixture of blood with anticoagulants. Plasma protein levels are influenced by body weight, age, growth, etc. Weight in particular, is closely related to obesity. This study aimed to determine the blood plasma protein levels of obese white rats given a mixture of glucomannan porang tubers and moringa leaf extract. This research method uses true experimental which is prepared with a Complete Randomized Design (RAL) in the form of posttest Only Control Design. The data obtained were analyzed using One Way ANOVA SPSS version 20 followed by the Kruskal willis test. The results of this study showed plasma protein levels between groups, namely (P1) 1358.6; (P2) 1356.6; (P3)1356.6; (P4)1353.6; (P5)1356; (P6)1359; (P7)1357.6; (P8)1360 from the above results it can be concluded that the blood plasma protein levels of obese white rats treated with a mixture of glucomannan and Moringa leaf extract were the highest at 1360 g / dL and the lowest plasma protein levels of 1353.6 g / dL.
