Abstract

The heavy metal Cadmium (Cd) can accumulate in the fish's body. The aim of this research is: To determine the metal content of Cadmium (Cd) in Tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) originating from Lake Rawa Taliwang. The specific benefit is to protect consumers who consume Tilapia from heavy metal contamination. The research was carried out at Rawa Taliwang Lake, namely in an area that was submerged in water. Two stations were chosen for this research, namely in the eastern and western parts of the lake. Method of data collection was carried out using gill nets. Two fish were taken at each station. Next, the tilapia fish samples are put into a plastic bag and then stored in a sample box. The research samples were then analyzed at the Mataram University analytical laboratory and at the Environmental and forestry services West Nusa Tenggara (DLHK NTB) Environmental Laboratory. The data analysis method was carried out by taking tilapia ikab muscle tissue and then analyzing the heavy metal content in the form of Cadmium (Cd) using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Measurement of heavy metals in tilapia fish tissue was carried out by adding concentrated HNO3 and HClO4, heating at a temperature of 60-70ºC for 2-3 hours until the solution was clear.  Samples are ready to be measured with AAS using an air-acetylene flame. The conclusion of this research is that the content of the heavy metal Cd in Tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) originating from Lake Rawa Taliwang ranges from 0.19 – 2,18 mg/kg (ppm), exceeds the permitted quality standard, namely 0.3 mg/kg.

Abstract

Rawa Taliwang Lake is a place where various types of aquatic organisms (macroorganisms and microorganisms) occur biological processes. Industrial activities can lead to the emergence of pollutants that contaminate the environment, including air, land, and water, if industrial waste is not managed properly. Surface water, especially in lakes, is easily polluted by heavy metals such as mercury (Hg). Mercury (Hg) levels that exceed normal limits in fish can be an indicator of environmental pollution. The study aims to determine the levels of heavy metal mercury (Hg) in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and to assess the safety of consuming the fish. Samples were analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) method. The results showed that tilapia samples had mercury (Hg) levels of 0.1 mg/kg (ppm), but were still safe for consumption. In line with BPOM Number 9 of 2022 which sets the threshold for heavy metal mercury (Hg) contamination in processed food products at 0.50 mg/kg.

Abstract

Chloroform and aceton are commonly used in washing test, while both are unfriendly to human health. This research is aimed to evaluate if those chemicals are really needed foe such purpose by seeing the washing power with or without those chemicals. There are four conditions of washing test: Involving both as usual (CA); chloroform only (C); chloroform and ethanol instead (CE); and None of both (OO). Washing test was carryout within a 0% and 1% of detergent. Two Way ANOVA Statistical analysis revealed that there was a very significant differences among the treatments, and Duncan analysis showed that with or without chloroform and aceton resulting in the same category of washing power, except the CE treatment resulted in a lower washing power. Hence there is a choice weather chloroform and aceton be involved in the procedure.

Abstract

Earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) belong to the phylum Annelida, class Clitellata, order Haplotaxida, family Lumbricidae, and genus Lumbricus. They thrive in loose and moist soil habitats. This species is commonly used as animal feed due to its high protein content, which is 65% higher than that of mammalian meat and 50% more than that of fish. To meet the increasing demand for earthworms as livestock and fish feed, their cultivation and production need to be enhanced. One method to boost earthworm production is by manipulating their reproduction through superovulation using Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotrophin (PMSG). PMSG is a hormone produced by the chorionic cups of pregnant mares and has biological effects similar to Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and minor Luteinizing Hormone (LH) activity. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of four groups: the control group (K0) without PMSG treatment, treatment group 1 (K1) receiving 200 IU PMSG dissolved in 100 ml of distilled water, treatment group 2 (K2) receiving 250 IU PMSG dissolved in 100 ml of distilled water, and treatment group 3 (K3) receiving 300 IU PMSG dissolved in 100 ml of distilled water. The treatment was applied by immersing the earthworms in the solution for 2 minutes. Each treatment group contained 10 earthworms and was replicated 10 times. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA at a 5% significance level, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results of this study indicate that the administration of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotrophin for superovulation significantly increases cocoon production in Lumbricus rubellus.

Abstract

Nutritional knowledge is a crucial factor in determining health and the balance between physical and mental development. Nutritional knowledge plays a crucial role in shaping a person's eating habits because it influences the types and amounts of food they choose. This study aimed to examine the relationship between nutritional knowledge and eating patterns among fifth-grade students in public elementary schools in Kediri District, West Lombok Regency, Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 221 students selected through simple random sampling from eight schools. Nutritional knowledge was measured using a multiple-choice test, while eating patterns were assessed through a structured questionnaire. Data analysis involved Chi-Square and Pearson correlation tests. The results showed a significant relationship between nutritional knowledge and eating patterns (p = 0.001), with a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.530). Most students demonstrated moderate nutritional knowledge (46.6%) and good eating patterns (66.5%). These findings suggest that higher nutritional knowledge is associated with healthier eating patterns. However, knowledge alone is not sufficient to ensure optimal eating behavior, as other factors such as family environment, food availability, and habits also play important roles. Strengthening nutrition education in schools and engaging parents in promoting healthy eating are recommended to improve students' dietary habits.
