Abstract

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning model is an effective approach to improving 21st-century skills. Several studies have shown that this model is able to develop students' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), learning outcomes, creativity, and innovation. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design, using a non-equivalent pretest–posttest control group design. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The study population included all fifth-grade students in Mejobo Regency spread across 46 elementary schools. The study sample consisted of 34 fifth-grade students of SD 5 Jepang and 35 fifth-grade students of SD 1 Kasil as the experimental class, and 31 fifth-grade students of SD 2 Jepang as the control class. Data collection techniques included interviews, tests, and documentation. The results of the analysis showed that the implementation of the STEM learning model had a positive effect on students' HOTS abilities, with a t-test value of 2.9 > t-table 2.0 and an average score increase of 58.9%. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the STEM learning model has a significant effect on improving the high-level thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (BMI) in Hong Kong, particularly those working in the domestic sector, face multidimensional challenges regarding work-life balance (WLB) and occupational health. Observations at the International Indonesia School Hong Kong (IISHK) reveal that many workers endure excessive working hours, reaching up to 21 hours per day, compounded by a lack of private space and social isolation. These conditions lead to severe physical and psychological exhaustion. This community service activity aims to introduce simple technological innovations as a solution to empower migrant workers. The method employed was a participatory workshop via Zoom Meeting, focusing on digital literacy for health management and legal advocacy. The results showed a significant shift in participants' behavior; they began utilizing health tracking applications and digital reminders to manage rest periods effectively. Furthermore, the program successfully established a digital peer-support system, which reduced feelings of isolation and increased workers' self-confidence in negotiating their rights. Technology, in this context, serves not only as a communication tool but as a vital instrument for achieving WLB and ensuring the well-being of migrant workers.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of organizational culture, work–life balance, and occupational health on the performance of early childhood education teachers in South Tangerang City. Strengthening teacher performance in PAUD institutions is increasingly urgent due to rising academic workloads, administrative demands, and institutional expectations. The research aims to analyze both the partial and simultaneous effects of the three independent variables on teacher performance. A quantitative survey design was employed, involving 30 PAUD teachers selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a 46-item Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that work–life balance has a significant positive effect on teacher performance, while organizational culture and occupational health do not show significant partial effects. However, the three variables collectively exert significant influence, with an R² of 0.261, indicating that they explain 26.1% of the variance in teacher performance. These results underscore the critical role of maintaining a balanced interaction between work responsibilities and personal life in enhancing teacher performance. The study concludes that institutions should provide structured support, reduce administrative burdens, and foster consistent work culture and occupational health measures to promote optimal performance and professional well-being among PAUD teachers.

Abstract

Screen-based engagement has increasingly displaced young children’s opportunities for tactile, embodied, and materially grounded learning. Within this context, clay-based art offers a potentially meaningful medium through which children can translate lived experience into three-dimensional expression, yet limited research has examined how children’s prior knowledge of a physical material relates to their artistic performance and emerging aesthetic learning. This study investigated children’s prior knowledge of clay, examined its relationship with artistic performance, and explored the forms of expression that emerged through clay-based artmaking. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed in Jepara Regency, Indonesia. In the quantitative phase, data were collected from 150 early childhood students using proportional stratified random sampling and analysed through descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA). In the qualitative phase, 12 children were selected purposively for in-depth exploration through observation, interviews, field notes, and thematic analysis. The findings showed that children’s prior knowledge of clay was at a sufficient level and was strongly associated with artistic performance. The qualitative analysis further indicated that children’s artworks were shaped by three main experiential domains: the domestic environment, the local and natural environment, and media and personal imagination. Rather than treating clay as merely a motor activity, the study shows that clay-based artmaking can function as a situated form of aesthetic learning in which material familiarity, environmental exposure, and prior experience intersect. The study contributes to early childhood art education by offering a more grounded account of aesthetic learning as culturally mediated and materially situated, while also suggesting the pedagogical value of place-based and materially responsive art practices.

Abstract

Rapid digital transformation has brought significant changes to the way people communicate. Over the past two decades, this transformation has drastically altered communication patterns, with social media becoming the primary medium for sharing information, building social interactions, and expressing opinions publicly (Afif et al., 2024). Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok enable communication across geographical and cultural boundaries, creating a fast, open, and massive communication space (Mujahiddin & Harahap, 2017). Based on this context, a Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Al-Kaffah under the theme “Digital Footprint Matters: Communication Education for a Technology-Literate Generation among Junior High School Students at Pondok Pesantren Al-Kaffah.” The purpose of this program is to train students’ critical thinking skills in addressing and solving digital-related issues among adolescents. The method used in this socialization activity is participatory, educative, and applicative. Through this approach, students are not only expected to understand the material theoretically but also to apply it in their daily lives. Through active collaboration between university students, teachers, boarding school mentors, and students, this program is expected to provide not only short-term benefits in the form of improved digital literacy but also to foster a sustainable positive digital culture within the Pondok Pesantren Al-Kaffah environment.

Abstract

Education is a key pillar of national development, and teachers play a central role in ensuring the success and quality of learning. This study aims to analyze the influence of principal leadership and teacher professional competence on teacher retention, with compensation as a mediating variable. This study employed a quantitative approach, using a survey to collect data from teachers in a private Islamic school. Path analysis was used to examine the direct and indirect relationships between the variables. The findings indicate that principal leadership and teacher professional competence positively influence teacher retention, both directly and through compensation as a mediating factor. These results reinforce the importance of school leaders' role in managing compensation and professional development as a sustainable retention strategy. This study highlights how compensation can act as a bridge between leadership and retention, and how professional competence reinforces this dynamic. In conclusion, retaining great teachers requires more than just a salary. It demands visionary leadership, meaningful professional development, and a workplace culture that values the contributions of every educator. By focusing on these areas, schools can build strong and loyal teams that drive long-term success and educational excellence.
