Abstract

Teenagers are more susceptible to contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Of the 34 provinces in Indonesia, East Java continues to have the highest rate of new HIV diagnoses. One tactic for HIV prevention and control is voluntary counseling and testing (VCT). The purpose of this study is to examine the risk factors associated with the uptake of VCT for HIV among adolescents in the general population of East Java. A cross-sectional study design, a quantitative technique, and an observational methodology are all used in this research. 329 individuals in total, selected at random, took part in this study. The prevalence ratio (PR) with a 95% confidence interval was examined in order to determine the level of risk. Out of all the parameters that were found, social media access (PR = 10.133; 95%CI 1.293 - 79.422) and social capital (PR = 10.741; 95% 3.240 - 35.601) were found to have a substantial impact on VCT for HIV. Thus, it's critical to enhance social capital and implement educational initiatives on VCT for HIV using social media in order to improve teenagers' favorable perceptions of the treatment.

Abstract

The participation of husbands in the Family Planning (FP) program is very low even though their role is very important in realizing a prosperous family. The low participation of husbands as FP acceptors is influenced by the limited choice of contraceptives for men and the lack of awareness of the importance of a shared role in reproductive health. The purpose of this study was to identify various factors that influence the participation of husbands as acceptors of the Family Planning (FP) program. This study used the method Systematic Literature Review as its main strategy by searching articles through Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. Based on the results of the search and analysis, seven relevant articles were found and worthy of being used as review material in this research literature review. The review of seven articles showed that husbands’ participation as family planning acceptors was most consistently influenced by knowledge, wife’s support, health workers’ roles, attitudes, and family income. However, other factors such as education, employment, and sources of information show varying results.

Abstract

Background: Easy access to communication and information can lead to prolonged social media use, which increases the risk of depression and anxiety. Purpose: To analyze social media usage intensity on depression and anxiety among university students. Methods: A literature review was conducted by retrieving articles from PubMed, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar databases. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method was used for article selection. Quality of the articles was assessed using The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for analytical cross-sectional studies. Results: The articles classified into three categories: six articles focused on depression, with four reporting statistically significant correlation; three articles on anxiety, all of which showed significant correlation; and two articles investigated both depression and anxiety, with one reported significant correlation for both variables and the other specifically for anxiety. Conclusion: Prolonged social media exposure leads to increased engagement with diverse online content, fostering self-comparison and consequently depression and anxiety. These findings emphasize the importance of higher education institutions implementing self-regulation interventions, such as self-control training programs, to mitigate adverse mental health outcomes among university students. Pencarian artikel menggunakan metode Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review & Meta-Analyses (PRISMA).

Abstract

Introduction: HIV remains a significant global public health issue, with East Java, Indonesia, contributing 15–20% of the national HIV cases. Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) is a critical strategy for early detection and prevention, yet its uptake among adolescents is influenced by multifaceted factors. This study aimed to identify the determinants of adolescents' attitudes towards VCT for HIV in East Java. Methods: An observational analytic cross-sectional study was conducted from July to December 2024, involving 329 adolescents aged 18–24 years selected through random sampling. Data were collected via a validated online questionnaire assessing demographic, socio-economic, knowledge, psychosocial, and institutional factors. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to determine significant predictors of VCT attitudes. Results: Nine factors were significantly associated with positive attitudes toward VCT: younger age (OR = 0.81), male gender (OR = 2.34), higher parental income (OR = 1.86), higher HIV-related knowledge (OR = 2.18), better VCT knowledge (OR = 1.72), low-risk sexual activity (OR = 1.95), service availability (OR = 2.48), family support (OR = 1.77), and institutional support (OR = 1.63). Conversely, stigma remained a significant barrier (OR = 0.49). Conclusion: Addressing stigma, enhancing institutional and family support, and improving access to VCT services are crucial for increasing VCT uptake among adolescents. Targeted interventions, including family-based approaches and comprehensive sexual education, are recommended to foster positive attitudes and reduce HIV transmission in East Java.

Abstract

Introduction: Student mental well-being was a concern prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. During COVID-19, mental health problems increased due to heightened anxiety and concern. Family and friends' support plays a crucial role in maintaining students' mental health. This study examines the impact of social support on students' mental well-being during the pandemic. Methods: This analytic observational study employed a cross-sectional design with a total of 400 active student participants. Psychometric instruments used in this study were the Sallis Social Support Scale and the short version of the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS-7). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation to determine the relationship between family and friends' support and students' mental well-being. Results: There was no significant relationship between family support and students’ mental well-being. However, only support from friends showed a statistically significant positive relationship with students' mental well-being (r = 0.176, p = 0.001), while support from family was not significantly associated (p = 0.073). Conclusion: Social support from friends played a crucial role in maintaining students' mental well-being during COVID-19. Encouraging peer support, such as reminding each other to complete tasks, can positively influence mental health.
