Abstract

This article examines the role of cross-cultural psychology in education through a literature review using a qualitative descriptive method. Data sources were obtained from various national scientific journals and academic books discussing cross-cultural psychology, multicultural education, and educational psychology. The analysis was conducted through stages of data reduction, synthesis of findings, and interpretation of conceptual meanings to construct an integrative framework. The findings reveal that cultural adaptation, intercultural communication, and multicultural education are key components that influence the quality of learning in diverse environments. Cultural adaptation enables students to adjust to differences in values and ways of thinking, while cross-cultural communication helps foster more empathetic interactions and reduces potential conflict. Additionally, strengthening multicultural character through the cultivation of tolerance, cooperation, and appreciation for diversity supports students in navigating life within a pluralistic society. Overall, cross-cultural psychology serves not only as a theoretical foundation but also as a practical guide for creating learning environments that are inclusive, adaptive, and sensitive to cultural diversity. This approach contributes to shaping learners who are open-minded, multicultural, and prepared to live harmoniously amid global change.

Abstract

Cross-cultural communication has become an important aspect of social interaction in the era of globalization, as it allows individuals from different cultural backgrounds to understand each other and establish harmonious relationships. The research method uses a literature review, where this research uses scientific journals as a basis. This paper discusses verbal (language and accent) and nonverbal communication (gestures, distance, eye contact, and body language), differences in high-context and low-context communication styles, and communication barriers such as stereotypes, prejudices, and misunderstandings. The analysis shows that the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication depends not only on language skills, but also on cultural awareness, empathy, and the ability to adapt to social norms and nonverbal behavior. Developing effective communication competencies allows individuals to interact more productively, reduce conflict, and appreciate cultural diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine educational management practices in supporting the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum (Independent Curriculum) at the junior high school level in Luwuk District, Banggai Regency. 21st-century education demands a fundamental transformation in school governance, where educational management must be not only administrative but also transformative. Using a qualitative approach and survey method, this study collected data through open questionnaires, field observations, and in-depth interviews with purposively selected school principals, teachers, and education personnel. The findings reveal that the success of the Merdeka Curriculum implementation is strongly influenced by three key dimensions: visionary and adaptive school leadership, teacher involvement in lesson planning and evaluation, and active community participation in school activities. However, the study also identifies several major challenges, including inadequate teacher training, high administrative burdens, limited digital literacy, lack of learning infrastructure, and weak external partnerships. Overall, this research affirms that the effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum is largely determined by the readiness of human resources and the quality of school management. The results of this study are expected to serve as a foundation for formulating contextual, sustainable, and learner-centered management strategies.

Abstract

Abstract

History learning in high schools, including at SMAN 14 Gowa, often emphasizes rote memorization of facts, leading to low historical thinking skills among students. This quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group study tests the effect of Scrapbook media integrated with a Deep Learning approach on 11th-grade students' historical thinking skills and history learning outcomes, using a sample of 36 students (18 per experimental and control group) selected via purposive sampling from a population of 36. Instruments included essay tests for historical thinking, objective tests for learning outcomes, observation, and documentation, with data analyzed via the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and the independent t-test. Results revealed significant gains in the experimental group (historical thinking: mean pretest 55.67 to posttest 83.22; learning outcomes: 58.11 to 86.89) compared to the control group using infographics (historical thinking: 56.72 to 72.28; learning outcomes: 58.50 to 74.33), with mean differences of 10.94 (t=5.55, p=0.000) for historical thinking and 12.55 (t=7.69, p=0.000) for learning outcomes. Scrapbook media with Deep Learning proved more effective for student-centered history education.

Abstract

History education in secondary schools often relies on rote memorization of chronological facts, creating disconnection between students and their local historical realities. This study investigates how Passura' Toraja, traditional visual symbolism embedded in Toraja material culture, can be integrated into history learning to create culturally-grounded educational experiences. Employing qualitative descriptive design, this research examined integration practices at SMAN 5 Tana Toraja through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with three history teachers, 35 students, and two cultural experts, and document analysis over three months. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Four key dimensions emerged: teachers possessed comprehensive cultural understanding enhanced through community collaboration; pedagogical integration occurred through multiple strategies including visual media, group discussions, and project-based learning; students demonstrated heightened engagement (91%) and strengthened cultural identity; and implementation success depended on facilitating factors such as teacher cultural competence while navigating constraints including limited instructional time. Findings demonstrate that Passura' functions as foundational framework for reconceptualizing history education, supporting culturally responsive pedagogy theory and place-based education scholarship. The research contributes practical models for integrating indigenous visual symbols into formal curriculum while addressing assessment challenges and sustainability concerns. Results indicate that culturally-grounded history education simultaneously advances academic objectives and cultural preservation, challenging dichotomies between academic rigor and cultural responsiveness in pluralistic educational contexts.

Abstract

History learning in high school often suffers from low student interest and motivation because of teacher-centered, conventional methods that fail to engage the digital generation. This study aims to examine the effect of the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model on students' learning interest and motivation in history at Athirah Bukit Baruga Islamic High School. A quantitative pre-experimental approach with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design was employed on 30 purposively selected Class X students. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and observational instruments, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, and a paired-samples t-test (α = 0.05) in SPSS. Results showed a significant increase in learning interest (M = 55.73 to M = 85.37) and motivation (M = 57.50 to M = 88.20), both with p = 0.000. Observations confirmed heightened student enthusiasm, collaboration, and interaction. Game-based learning is found to be effective in enhancing students' interest and motivation in history learning.
