Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of their learning experiences in a blended learning environment. It seeks to describe: 1) students’ perceived learning effectiveness in blended learning, 2) key aspects of blended learning contributing to learning effectiveness, and 3) problems and constraints in blended learning. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, targeting undergraduate students from six departments and three different semester cohorts who had experienced blended learning. With a population of approximately 6.000 students, a sample of 509 students was selected using stratified random sampling to ensure proportional representation across departments and cohorts. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results indicate that while 60% of students strongly valued the flexibility to access materials anytime/anywhere, fewer than 40% reported effective self-paced learning or study planning. Interaction and collaboration were limited (25–38% agreement), and perceived impacts on motivation (27–35%) and material understanding (26–27%) were modest. Technical ability varied, with only 24% feeling highly competent in platform feature usage. Overall satisfaction was low (29%), aligning with suboptimal active engagement, interaction/collaboration, and perceived impacts. Findings suggest that blended learning implementation at this institution did not fully realize its potential for autonomy, collaboration, or enriched outcomes, highlighting the need for improved pedagogical design, user-friendly technology, and strategies to foster critical dialogue and self-regulation.

Abstract

In the academic world, proper and efficient reference management is essential to ensure the quality and credibility of scientific writing. However, many lecturers and education practitioners, particularly early childhood education teachers, still encounter difficulties in managing references according to established academic standards such as APA and MLA citation styles. This challenge often hinders the process of academic writing and decreases the quality of scholarly outputs. To address this issue, a structured training program was conducted focusing on the use of Mendeley, a digital reference management tool designed to simplify citation and bibliography management automatically. The objective of this training was to enhance participants’ technical competence, digital literacy, and their ability to integrate Mendeley into the process of preparing scientific papers. The training activities were carried out using a series of steps, including needs assessment of participants, collaborative planning, hybrid training implementation (both online and offline), and continuous assistance through follow-up forums. Throughout the program, participants were guided step-by-step on how to install, use, and integrate Mendeley into word processing applications for academic writing. The results of the evaluation showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and practical skills, with an N-Gain score of 0.70, which falls into the high effectiveness category. The training not only improved the quality of reference management in scientific papers but also promoted greater professionalism and academic accountability. Moreover, it supported the broader goal of integrating technology into educational development. Overall, this initiative is expected to encourage more systematic, efficient, and digitally literate practices in academic writing among educators, ultimately contributing to improved educational quality in higher education settings.

Abstract

Limited understanding of rice cultivar biodiversity information in Solok Regency makes it difficult for people to determine which local rice originates from the area. This research aims to reveal the diversity and relationships of local rice, find specific morphological characters and their contribution value in providing diversity and find local rice candidates for plant breeding through analysis of potential superior characters. The method used is a field survey method with Principle Component Analysis (PCA) analysis to describe the contribution of a character in providing diversity and Cluster analysis to reveal the relationship between local rice cultivars. The 18 rice cultivars found included 11 local cultivars, 7 superior local cultivars. 3 of them from Solok Regency; Cisokan, Caredek, Siarang and the rest were released from various West Sumatra Agricultural Services. Based on the results of Cluster analysis and Principle Component Analysis, a dendogram was formed with 3 main clusters. Then we get morphological characters that have a contribution value with an eigen value> 0.3, including characters; plant height, leaf length, leaf width, ligule length, lower stem node diameter, flag leaf angle, leaf color, midrib color, flag leaf color, and center of panicle exit. This research also provides prospective local rice cultivars that have the opportunity to become superior local cultivars, such as; Padi Cinta, Situjuah, Sungkai and Talang Solok.

Abstract

Climate change caused by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2, and deforestation, is an urgent global issue. The REDD+ program initiated by the UN aims to reduce carbon emissions and increase carbon storage in forests. One of the forests that can reserve carbon is the karst area with the ability to reserve carbon dioxide (CO2). This study aims to determine the potential carbon content and carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration. This study was conducted using the chip sampling method and the XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) method analysis. Based on the research results, it is known that the Silokek Geopark karst area has three different limestone rock characteristics, and sample 3 is the type of rock with the highest CaO percentage. The potential inorganic carbon content is 4,908.07 tons/ha and carbon absorption is 18,012.60 tons/ha, categorized as high. The inorganic carbon content in the Silokek Geopark area is lower than the Biduk-biduk Karst area which is influenced by the area volume area and type of rock composition.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an innovative and effective storytelling learning method to stimulate receptive and expressive language skills in early childhood. The main issue faced at Doa Ibu Early Childhood Education Kindergarten, Makassar is the low receptive and expressive language abilities of the children. The study uses a qualitative approach with the Lesson Study method, implemented over two cycles, involving 15 children. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive methods and the calculation of descriptive statistics with N Gain to assess the effectiveness of the learning. In the first cycle, audio-visual media was used in storytelling learning but was not effective in capturing the children's attention until the end of the story. The second cycle introduced an interactive approach by combining video visuals and hand puppets, which increased participation and active learning. The results of the study show that the combination of video-visual media and hand puppets in three learning steps— tonton cerita (watch the story), ulas cerita (review the story), and ekspresikan cerita (express the story)—abbreviated as TRUE Storytelling, proved to be an effective method for enhancing children's receptive and expressive language abilities

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in early childhood. This study used a pre-experimental design  with the One Group Pretest-Posttest model, involving 15 children aged 5–6 years in a private kindergarten in the Gatot Subroto area. The PBL model is applied through activities that allow children to observe phenomena, identify problems, design solutions, and draw conclusions independently. Data collection was carried out through observation of high-level thinking skills at two stages, namely before and after PBL treatment. The results of descriptive statistical analysis showed an increase in the average score from the pretest by 26.67 to 52.53 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test showed a significance value (2-tailed) = 0.001 < 0.05, which indicates a significant effect of the application of PBL on the improvement of children's high-level thinking skills. These findings suggest that PBL is effective in developing analytical, critical, and creative thinking skills in early childhood. The implication of the results of this study is the need to integrate problem-based learning models in the early childhood education curriculum as a strategy to optimize cognitive development and children's readiness to face future challenges
