Abstract

Excessive agricultural waste potentially causes serious pollution issues by farming practices. The potency of Basidiomycota’s fungi to degrade biomass for a safe practice might be considered to cope with this issue. This study aims to determine Basidiomycota fungi’s ability to produce organic acids after being inoculated on cocoa husks at various fermentation periods (20 and 40 days) and evaluate the effect of humic acid from those fermented cocoa husks on the growth and productivity of shallots. This research is carried out in three stages; the first is composting process from cocoa husks. The next is the acid-base extraction of cocoa pod husk compost to produce humic and fulvic acid. And the last is the application of humic acid to shallot plants. The results show that composting for 40 days produced higher levels of humic and fulvic acids. Inoculation with Coprinus sp produced the highest levels of humic acid but is not different with Pleurotus sp. Applying 100 ml/l of humic acid to shallots shows the best growth, while the concentration of 400 ml/l has the best production. This study presents the potential practice of cocoa pod residue and Basidiomycota fungi to increase agricultural commodities’ productivity agents.

Abstract

Acidic land is underutilized as agricultural land because of its lack of nutrients and minimal water content. At the same time, acid land is widespread in Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the soil texture and response of tomato plants after applying manure and humic acid from cocoa pod extract. Humic acid was extracted from cocoa pod skin compost using the Tan method, while soil texture was measured using the pipette method. The experimental design used was a randomized block design with 3 treatments of giving organic matter to acid soil, including untreated acid soil, acid soil + manure, and acid soil + manure + humic acid. The results showed that acid soil + manure treatment could reduce the sand fraction up to 53%. In addition, there was an increase in values for all growth and production parameters of tomato plants, including plant height, number of leaves, and tomato fruit weight in acid soil. The addition of manure + humic acid to acid soil can also increase tomato plants' wet weight, dry weight, and root volume.

Abstract

Cement mining by exploiting Maros karst, South Sulawesi, produces waste in the form of gypsum, which still has the potential to be used in bioremediation as a planting medium for plant commodities. The research aims to determine the growth of chili plants on former cement mining media treated with mycorrhiza and biohumic—the biohumate used from an extract of cocoa pod husk. The research was structured using an experimental method with 5 treatments, namely primary media in the form of soil + manure as a control, gypsum 30 g/polybag, gypsum 60 g/polybag, gypsum 30 g/polybag+mycorrhiza, gypsum 60 g/polybag+mycorrhiza. The treatment was then divided into 2, with biohumic and without biohumic. The research showed that all observed parameters had higher values in the biohumic treatment than without biohumic. Treatment with 30 g gypsum/polybag + mycorrhiza can improve the physical properties of the soil by changing the percentage composition of soil fractions. It can also increase P2O2 and K2O levels and provide the best growth for chili plants. It is possible to utilize waste from cement mines to produce horticultural commodities by bioremediation with mycorrhiza and biohumate.

Abstract

West Bacukiki District is a food source-producing area in Parepare City, South Sulawesi. However, this area is located on rocky hills and has a slope of up to 25°. It was quite difficult for the management of water and soil because the water at a height of discharge is very little. The condition was felt by the Barangan Farmers Group who cultivate shallots. Water has to be pumped and it costs a lot to buy fuel for the pumping machine. One solution that can be done is a pumping system with abundant alternative energy sources and the provision of organic fertilizer products to having nutrient needs. This activity was carried out in 4 stages, namely socialization of activities, optimizing solar panels, repairing water pumps, and bio-humic application. This activity really helps KT Barangan in agricultural cultivation activities by increasing the discharge of pumpable water and increasing the organic matter of rocky and sloping soils on their land.
