Abstract

Education Study Program (PAI) in higher education, with a focus on the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Motivation is a crucial factor in academic decision-making, both intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation includes personal interest and a call from an early age to delve into religious knowledge and become an educator. Meanwhile, extrinsic motivation includes parental influence, social environment, and job prospects. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with ten active students. The findings show that factors such as love for religious lessons, family support, aspirations to become teachers, and spiritual motivation such as the expectation of jariyah rewards are the main drivers. However, various demotivational factors also emerge, such as unclear study objectives, academic pressure, negative social influences, and mismatches between initial expectations and the reality of college. This condition contributes to a decrease in enthusiasm for learning and potential disruptions in the sustainability of studies. Nevertheless, the majority of respondents still view the profession of PAI teachers as a way of service that is full of spiritual values and not just seeking material gains. This research emphasizes the importance of a holistic understanding of student motivations and challenges to support academic coaching strategies and policies that are more humane, adaptive, and on target.

The data analysis technique refers to the Miles and Huberman model which includes three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity testing was carried out using triangulation techniques, both source and technique triangulation, to ensure the validity and reliability of the research findings. The results of the study showed that students' motivations for joining organizations included developing leadership skills, expanding social networks, gaining teamwork experience, and strengthening understanding and practice of Islamic teachings. Participation in organizations contributes to improving communication skills, time management, responsibility, decision making, and strengthening Islamic values such as trustworthiness, honesty, cooperation, and discipline. The main challenges faced by students include difficulty in managing time, academic pressure, fatigue, and maintaining consistency of religious values amidst organizational activities. Strategies used to overcome this include creating a regular schedule, setting priorities, and strengthening religious intentions and motivations. In conclusion, campus organizations contribute significantly to the holistic development of PAI students, as long as they are balanced with time management, spiritual awareness, and strong personal commitment in carrying out organizational activities consistently and responsibly.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of halaqoh tarbawiyah in shaping the self concept of adolescents at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta, Indonesia. Adolescence is a critical phase in identity development, where cultivating a strong self concept is essential. Halaqoh tarbawiyah, a group-based Islamic educational approach, is expected to serve as a medium for nurturing Islamic character in adolescents. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving students, teachers, and halaqoh tarbawiyah facilitators. The findings indicate that halaqoh tarbawiyah plays a significant role in developing adolescents’ self concept through three main aspects: the internalization of Islamic values, the enhancement of self-confidence, and the cultivation of social awareness. Moreover, the halaqoh serves as a safe and supportive space for adolescents to share experiences, participate in discussions, and explore their identities. Therefore, the implementation of halaqoh tarbawiyah in Islamic schools functions as a strategic instrument for strengthening Islamic identity and addressing identity crises during adolescence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategy of internalizing religiosity values as an effort to prevent bullying in the Darul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School in Surakarta. Bullying, which often appears in verbal and relational forms, is a problem that affects the mental health and social development of students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore an understanding of how religious values are applied in daily life in pesantren and how it contributes to preventing bullying behavior. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with students and pesantren managers as well as the study of documents related to pesantren policies and religious activities. The results of the study show that routine religious activities, such as congregational prayers, dhikr, and learning the Qur'an, play an important role in shaping the character of students who prioritize positive moral and social values. However, although religiosity has a big role in preventing bullying, there are still challenges related to differences in perceptions among students about bullying behavior. In conclusion, the consistent and deep internalization of religiosity values can create a safer and more harmonious environment in Islamic boarding schools, while reducing the risk of bullying.

Abstract

While contemporary studies on multiculturalism predominantly rely on secular political or educational frameworks, limited attention has been given to prophetic ethical paradigms as a systematic model for managing diversity. This study addresses this gap by examining multiculturalism in the era of the Prophet Muhammad SAW through a hermeneutical–prophetic approach grounded in Kuntowijoyo’s prophetic social science. Using qualitative library research, the study analyzes classical Islamic texts particularly the Medina Charteralongside relevant contemporary literature. The findings demonstrate that prophetic multiculturalism constitutes an ethical–political framework based on equality, religious freedom, social justice, and dialogical coexistence. Theoretically, this study reframes multiculturalism as a value-based moral system rather than a merely sociopolitical arrangement. Practically, it offers a normative reference for contemporary multicultural governance, education, and interfaith dialogue in plural societies facing increasing identity-based conflicts.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the “Flat Earth” or “Bumi Kotak” emerging in digital public spaces today is not merely a debate about the Earth’s shape, but a symbol of the epistemological crisis within the Muslim community. This crisis reflects a disconnection between revelation (al-waḥy), reason (al-‘aql), and empirical experience (al-tajrībah), leading to disorientation in knowledge. This paper aims to describe the Bumi Kotak phenomenon as a manifestation of epistemological crisis, analyze its root causes, and propose a model for reconstructing the paradigm of Islamic education based on tauhidic epistemology. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with a hermeneutic-philosophical paradigm, this study analyzes classical and contemporary Islamic works by scholars such as al-Attas, al-Faruqi, and Nasr. The findings reveal that the epistemological crisis stems from the loss of tauhidic awareness in modern fragmented and secular knowledge systems. Islamic education must reintegrate revelation, reason, and empirical knowledge into a unified tauhidic epistemology that emphasizes intellectual ethics and adab of thinking. Such reconstruction can guide Islamic education toward a more critical, civilized, and transformative framework in the digital age.
