Abstract

Optimal public service requires good communication skills from officers. Although the number of visitors to the Magelang City Library and Archives Office continues to increase significantly, there are still complaints from visitors regarding service quality, such as inadequate information and indecisiveness of officers. This indicates a gap in the communication skills of officers that needs to be improved. This study aims to measure the effect of public service communication skills on visitor satisfaction. This study uses an associative quantitative method with an explanatory research approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through questionnaire. The research population consisted of 406,195 visitors with a sample of 150 respondents determined using the Slovin formula and random sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression with the help of the SPSS program. The results showed that communication competence had a positive and significant effect on visitor satisfaction with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.700, these findings show that a considerable amount of visitor satisfication can be explained by communication competenc, nevertheless, this influence should be interpreted cautiously because other organizational and service elements that were not examined in this study also have an impact on satisfaction. Theoretically, the results of this study can be used as a reference for further research related to public service communication in the library and archiving sector. Practically, the findings of this study can be used by the managers of the library as material for evaluating and improving services to meet visitors' expectations.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the potential of the PKK MSMEs of Tawangsari Village, Tembarak, with local products Wedhang Jahe, which faced obstacles in business legality, product innovation, digital marketing, and non-cash payments. The main objective is to increase the competitiveness of MSMEs through digitalization and strengthening business legality, with a focus on training on NIB (Business Identification Number), QRIS, packaging innovation, and digital marketing strategies. Although the socialization and training were successful in increasing partners' understanding of digitalization and legality, the full implementation of the main agenda (NIB, QRIS, e-commerce) has not been realized due to the limited authority of the production division that is the partner. However, the high enthusiasm of partners shows positive prospects, concluding that strengthening MSMEs through product innovation and digital adaptation is a strategic step for village economic independence.

Abstract

Soil-transmitted helminth infections remain a major public health concern among elementary school children in Indonesia, with a prevalence rate of 31.8%. This community service program aimed to improve students’ knowledge of helminth infection prevention through structured health education. The activity targeted 17 fourth-grade students at SDN Girikulon and used an interactive discussion approach supported by PowerPoint presentations and animated videos. The program consisted of three stages: preparation, including coordination and development of learning materials; implementation, consisting of pre-test, material delivery, post-test, and discussion; and evaluation through comparison of test results. The findings showed a significant increase in knowledge, with average scores rising from 46.5 to 94.1 after the intervention. These results indicate that interactive health education effectively enhances students’ understanding of helminth prevention. For sustainability, collaboration with local health centers or the Health Office is recommended to expand program coverage and ensure equitable distribution of deworming medication to all students.

Abstract

Curug Silawe in Magelang Regency has promising natural tourism potential, but still faces problems with cleanliness and suboptimal digital promotion. These conditions have an impact on the instability of tourist visitation numbers, so community empowerment activities that are in line with field needs are required. This initiative aims to assist managers in improving the cleanliness of the area while strengthening promotion through social media to increase awareness and interest in Curug Silawe. The program was implemented in collaboration with managers as key partners, beginning with observation and discussion, followed by cleanup activities and the creation of visual content for publication on social media. The results of the activities showed significant changes, marked by a reduction in trash, a tidier area, and positive responses to promotional posts on Instagram. These findings indicate that simple collaboration with managers can improve environmental conditions and the image of the destination, and therefore needs to be supported on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

The importance of maintaining health, especially for school-age children, is not always related to their freedom from various acute diseases, but also concerns the process of physical growth and development, cognitive development, and the formation of lifelong habits. Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is a strategic effort to improve public health by disseminating healthy lifestyle experiences to individuals, groups, and communities through communication as a means of sharing information. The method used in this community service activity is a participatory approach through outreach and mentoring for students. From several series of activities that have been carried out, it was found that the objectives of the community service activities have had a positive impact. Data from the pre-test and post-test showed an increase on a scale of 1-5 from 4.6 to 4.7. Although not very significant, this still indicates that students have a fairly good basic understanding, and this outreach activity can strengthen and clarify that understanding.

Abstract

Bullying remains a serious problem in schools because it can negatively impact students' mental and physical health. This phenomenon is often found in elementary school-aged children who are at a vulnerable stage of social and emotional development. This community service activity aims to increase the understanding and awareness of students at Kedungsari 3 Elementary School, North Magelang, regarding the importance of bullying prevention through outreach activities. The outreach was conducted using an interactive approach through the delivery of material using illustrated presentations and animated videos to facilitate student understanding. To measure the effectiveness of the activity, pre- and post-tests were conducted on 27 sixth-grade students to determine their level of understanding. The evaluation results showed a significant increase, with the average student score increasing from 50 in the pre-test to 90 in the post-test. In addition, students demonstrated active participation throughout the entire series of activities. Thus, interactive outreach based on audio-visual media has proven effective in fostering understanding and awareness regarding bullying prevention in elementary schools.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a major problem in Indonesia, particularly in educational settings, where waste management is suboptimal. The goal of this community service activity is to create a green school environment by increasing students' awareness, skills, and responsibility for plastic waste management. Darul Aman Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) in Pringsurat District, Temanggung Regency with 48 students in grades 5 and 6, is the community service partner. The methods used were outreach, training, and hands-on practice with a participatory and educational approach through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the activity showed that students had a better understanding of how to recycle plastic waste and the importance of greening. As part of the school greening movement, students transformed used plastic gallons into beautiful and useful plant pots. This activity not only reduced the amount of plastic waste but also expanded green space in the school and fostered environmental awareness. This program has the potential to become a model for environmental learning that can be implemented in other schools.

Abstract

Despite recent declines in prevalence, malnutrition and stunting remain persistent public health challenges in Indonesia. While existing studies on school feeding programs largely emphasize nutritional outcomes, they have given limited attention to how frontline actors translate policy into everyday practice. Addressing this gap, this study analyzes how street-level bureaucrats exercise discretion, negotiate structural constraints, and develop coping strategies in implementing the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program in Magelang City and Magelang Regency. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, nutritionists, cooks, distribution drivers, and school staff, complemented by field observations. The data were coded thematically using key dimensions of Street-Level Bureaucracy as analytical categories, including discretion, resource constraints, coping practices, and social relations. The findings reveal that implementation is shaped not only by formal guidelines but also by localized adaptations. Teachers serve in dual roles as educators and informal nutrition supervisors, while cooks make creative adjustments to menu composition and portioning to ensure continuity despite limited facilities and fluctuating supplies. Frontline actors also employ social accountability mechanisms through close interaction with parents and local communities to sustain compliance and trust. These practices demonstrate how discretion operates as both a managerial necessity and a source of innovation. The study contributes to theory by extending Street-Level Bureaucracy to a developing-country context, highlighting how social accountability and collective coping practices shape policy outcomes beyond individual discretion. Practically, the findings inform policy refinement through targeted investments in facilities, streamlined administrative procedures, and adaptive menu planning to strengthen program sustainability.
