Abstract

Open University is needed to meet the needs of studying without being limited by space, time, amount, cost, age, and distance with a quality tutor. This study aims to describe the ideal form of tutor recruitment, the role of tutors and get quality tutors. This survey research was conducted at the Distance Learning Program Unit (DLPU) Surabaya with data collection methods through observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Sources of data were obtained from Study groups, Tutors, Department of Education, Regional Responsibility in the tutorial period 2019.1 and 2019.2. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that: (1) The ideal form of tutor recruitment is through tutor selection, through the tutor candidate test, through agency recommendations and special offers. (2) The role of tutors in the professional learning process is that tutors are still needed for certain subjects, as innovators and motivators, to play a role in reducing dropout. (3) To get quality tutors and not only as a part-time job so that tutors in working remain professional is to build a sound system. The obligations and rewards that are received appropriately. Between taxes and a decent income. Also, between expertise or rank need to be adjusted to the level of compensation which is given.

Abstract

The concept attainment tutorial tool with multi representations still needs to be developed. The purpose of this study is to describe the validity of the model and the validity of concept attainment devices with multi representations as alternative learning models to improve students' mastery of concepts and scientific consistency. The development of this tutorial tool uses the design of Plomp which consists of preliminary study phase, prototype stage, and assessment phase. The limited test was conducted on students of the Surabaya Open University in the Basic Science Natural Sciences course (PDGK4103). Research data were collected by the validation method using the model validation sheet instrument and the device validation sheet. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) The concept of attainment model with multi representations developed is included in the valid criteria in terms of content validity and construct validity. (2) The multi-representation tutorial tool developed is included in the valid criteria. Based on the above it can be concluded that the concept of attainment with multi representations developed is valid and appropriate to be used to improve students' mastery of concepts and scientific consistency.

Abstract

The purpose of this study explains the effectiveness of the student activity sheet model to enhance scientific creativity and student learning outcomes and student responses to the learning process. The research design used pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The study's subject was the student activity sheet (SAS) model and the implementation of primary teacher Education undergraduate students who programed a science introductory concept course during the 2019.1 registration at Open University. Data collected using test methods and questionnaires with product cognitive test instruments, cognitive process tests, scientific creativity tests and student questionnaire responses. Data analyzed by t-test and the proportions calculated. Normality test and homogeneity test are done before the t-test is applied. Increased creativity and student learning outcomes are calculated using normalized N-Gain. The results showed: 1) Improvement of students' scientific creativity after joining learning in the medium category. 2) Improving student learning outcomes after participating in learning in the good category. 3) Student responses to the learning process in the positive category. Based on the above, it can be concluded that the application of student activity sheet model used in learning activities to improve scientific creativity competency and student learning outcomes is effective.

Abstract

Project-based Inquiry Science (PjBI-Science) is one of the embodiments of innovative learning designed for students to have abilities like scientists and to experience various investigative methodologies, which include experimentation, modelling, simulation, and data analysis in the fields of earth science, life science, and physical sciences. Not only beneficial for students, but PjBI-Science also facilitates teachers to be able to design detailed learning processes and conduct assessments according to students' thinking skills and abilities, both individually and in groups. This study aims to identify the characteristics and find the benefits of implementing PjBI-Science learning. The research method used is a systematic review with a meta-aggregation method that summarizes the results of research related to PjBI-Science qualitatively. Based on the literature review results to identify the characteristics of the implementation of PjBi-Science, conclusions were obtained regarding the benefits of implementing learning. For students, it can improve the quality of abilities in the natural science field and accommodate the learning needs to optimize thinking skills, while for teachers, it can holistically provide alternative teaching styles in an innovative way and conduct an effective assessment of the activities and cognitive abilities of students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to improve student learning outcomes, activities, and positive responses. Classroom action research carried out in 4 stages: planning, action and observation, reflection, and revision that carried out in three cycles. Data were collected through test, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The participants of this research are class XI-3 students of State Senior High School 1 Krembung. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitative. Observation cycle 1, motivation by the teacher, learning objectives, explanation of working on worksheets, worksheet systematics, class control, seating settings, and intelligence use are lacking. The mean obtained is 55 with grade completeness of 38%. Observation cycle 2, delivery of learning objectives hastily, connecting material with daily phenomena is less clear, concluding that the material is not systematic. However, many students begin to maximize their intelligence to obtain a mean 63.75 with class completeness of 60%. Observation cycle 3 shows an improvement, and the process runs smoothly so that the mean is 74 with grade completeness 81%. Students' positive activity increased from cycle I to cycle III while learning achievement from cycle one to cycle three increased respectively by 38%, 60%, and 81%. The student’s response questionnaire showed that students had a positive attitude with 81.73% and 18.27% negative. In conclusion, student achievement and activity in learning had increased and received a positive response.

Abstract

The implementation of learning activities during the pandemic is carried out online, including learning activities at the Distance Learning Program Unit of the Open University of Semarang using Web-based Tutorials (Tuweb) using Microsoft Team. Online learning requires students to study independently. The purpose of this study was to integrate the impact of user experience, academic self-concept and adversity quetion on independent learning in students. This type of research is quantitative research. Data collection techniques using a psychological scale. The psychological scale used in this study is (1) the learning independence scale. (2) academic self-concept scale (3) adversity quotient scale and (4) user experience scale. The measurement results show a TLI of 0.955. This output shows the accuracy, consistency of the accuracy of the composite reliability measuring instrument which shows the accuracy, consistency of the accuracy of a measuring instrument in making measurements. Student independence is influenced by academic self-concept and user experience, but the adversity quotient does not have a significant effect.

Abstract

The lecture process even in the Covid-19 pandemic must continue. The right of students to obtain good teaching must still be fulfilled. Lectures are conducted online using the Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Drive, Google Form platforms. The platform is assembled in a problem solving model with Toulmin's Argument Pattern. Problem solving analytical skills are the main focus of the Statistics course. This study aims to improve students' analytical problem solving skills, describe their improvement and describe student responses with Toulmin's Argument Pattern in problem solving models. The research design used a one group pre-test and post-test design. The research subjects were 30 students of the Unesa Physics Department. The instruments used in collecting data include: (1) problem solving analysis ability test sheets, (2) student response questionnaires. The research data scores that have been collected after going through a series of prerequisite tests, normality tests and homogeneity tests are then analyzed using paired t-tests to find out if there are differences in pre-test scores and post-test scores for solving analytical skills. student problems. The mean level of improvement in pre-test scores and post-test scores was calculated using normalized gain. The results showed an increase in problem-solving analytical skills in the medium and high categories. Student responses in lectures were very positive.
