Abstract

The red devil fish (Amphilophus spp.) is a carnivorous fish from Nicaragua that is considered a pest due to its predatory nature toward smaller fish. Although it does not have high economic value, this fish reproduces rapidly and threatens the endemic fish population in Lake Sentani, Papua. The endemic fish population has declined due to the increasing population of red devil fish that live in colonies in the littoral zone. Despite its high amino acid content, this fish is less favored due to the abundance of bones. One way to increase its consumption is by processing it into crackers. The method used involves training the community. The goal of this activity is to increase the consumption of red devil fish among the community. The results and achievements of this activity show that the women of Yoboi village successfully utilized the previously underutilized red devil fish by processing it into crackers. This has had a positive impact on maximizing local potential and creating new business opportunities, thereby improving economic welfare. This activity has also enhanced food processing skills within the community.

Abstract

Ambon City is one of the cities in Maluku Province which has quite large fisheries potential. One of the potentials is to capture fisheries. Capture fisheries are activities that are highly dependent on the availability and carrying capacity of fish resources and the aquatic environment. Sustainability of fisheries requires appropriate management of fish resources, namely the use of fish resources by considering the sustainability of fish resources. However, the use of fishery resources has not been utilized optimally and sustainability has not been paid attention to, especially for small pelagic fish species. The aim of this research is to estimate the stock of small pelagic fish in the PPI Eri, Ambon City. Primary and secondary data collection at PPI Eri and surrounding areas. The data analysis used is data on catch and fishing effort including catch per unit effort (CPUE) and production surplus methods (sustainable potential (MSY) and fopt). The mini purse seine fishing fleet consists of boats, machines, nets, FADs and lights. Then the Flying Fish resource can continue to be utilized optimally and sustainably, ensuring that the production amount does not exceed the JTB limit (Amount of Allowable Catch), namely the JTB value is 222: 80 The JTB is 167 : 80 X 100% = 208.75 tons/year. Therefore, if the sustainable potential and optimum efforts are known, it is hoped that the Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (Government) can apply the precautionary principle in managing fish resources in Maluku Province.

Abstract

The catch from fishermen in the Hamadi village is currently sold fresh at the beach or taken to the Hamadi Fish Auction Place (TPI) for sale. The most abundant catch is yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares). Based on interviews with the fishermen's wives in Hamadi Village, the main issues they face are a lack of skills and technology, as well as tools and materials for processing fish products. During the fish abundance season, the fishermen's wives sell fish at lower prices due to a lack of knowledge about fish product processing and limited raw materials. The target of this activity is the fishermen's wives in Hamadi Village. The proposed solution is to conduct training on making tuna chips using moringa leaves as an additional ingredient. The community service activity took place on August 14, 2024, and was attended by 15 participants. The methods used were socialization and training (demonstration). The outcome of this community service activity was that participants gained knowledge and experience about the process of processing yellowfin tuna into fish chips (80%).  Keywords: JAS Fishermen's wives; Hamadi; Chips Moringa; Tuna
