Abstract

Teacher competence is a determining factor in the success of early childhood education (PAUD). This study aims to analyze the level of teacher competence in PAUD units, including pedagogical, personality, social, and professional competencies. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach with a survey method. The sample consisted of 45 PAUD teachers from 15 PAUD units in Padang City, West Sumatra. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The results showed that PAUD teachers' pedagogical competence was in the sufficient category (63.4%), personality competence was in the good category (78.2%), social competence was in the good category (74.5%), and professional competence was in the sufficient category (61.8%) in digital-based learning. These findings indicate that there is still a need to systematically improve the pedagogical and professional competence of PAUD teachers, especially in digital-based learning, through training programs, ongoing training, and academic qualification enhancement.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a local wisdom-based e-Module to enhance the dimensions of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and creativity in early childhood education. The research uses a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Conducted at Taman Kanak-Kanak Pembina Pancung Soal, the study involves children aged 4-6 years and teachers who will implement the e-Module. The analysis phase revealed that existing Pancasila-based modules were insufficient in fostering cooperative behavior among children. Consequently, a local wisdom-based e-Module, focusing on the use of Lokan shells as a creative learning material, was developed to support project-based learning that integrates the values of cooperation and creativity. The design phase involved planning the content, language, and visual design of the e-Module, which was then validated by experts, achieving an average validity score of 94%, indicating the module's high validity. The practicality test by teachers resulted in a 97% feasibility rating, while the effectiveness test with 15 participants showed a 94% effectiveness rate. Final evaluations indicated that the e-Module successfully enhanced cooperation and creativity in children while offering culturally relevant learning. This research provides important implications for the development of interactive learning media in early childhood education, utilizing digital technology and local wisdom to support character development and social skills in young learners.

Abstract

Teacher professionalism is a key determinant in the quality of early childhood education (PAUD). However, studies that integrate the framework of sustainable professional development with the reality of implementation in community-based private early childhood education institutions in Indonesia are still limited. This study aims to analyze the professional profile of teachers at Kasih Ibu Padang Kindergarten through four dimensions of competence, namely pedagogical, personality, social, and professional, as well as identify their supporting and inhibiting factors in the context of 21st century learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with a single case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and principals, as well as document analysis and parent interviews, then analyzed using an interactive analysis model. The results of the study show that there is a pattern of uneven professionalism, where personality and social-emotional competencies are relatively strong, while pedagogic and professional competencies still need strengthening, especially in technology integration, the application of innovative learning approaches, and the use of authentic assessments. The root of the problem lies in the absence of a planned, systematic, and needs-based system of sustainable professional development. On the other hand, the instructional leadership of the principal and the culture of collaboration between teachers are strategic factors that have the potential to encourage the improvement of teacher professionalism. These findings affirm the importance of strengthening a collaborative, coaching based, and medium-term sustainable professional development system in improving the quality of early childhood education teachers in Indonesia.
