Abstract

The quality of students' academic skills is one of the important indicators in the success of the higher education process, but traditional learning methods are often less effective in encouraging active student involvement. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of flipped classroom method in improving students academic skills: scoping review. The research method used is a scoping review with databases from PubMed, Sage Journals, and ScienceDirect. The results obtained were 10 articles that were reviewed, with the main themes being the effectiveness of the flipped classroom method, student involvement in learning, student perceptions of the flipped classroom learning method, and challenges and obstacles in implementing this learning method. The research findings indicate that academic skills—which include critical thinking skills, analytical skills, creative skills, communication skills, and collaboration skills—significantly improved. Students feel more prepared when taking part in learning because they have previously studied the material to be discussed. The application of this learning method is highly recommended for educational institutions to improve the quality of students and educational institutions.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and midwifery service quality and its implications for higher education curricula. A scoping review method was conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework and aligned with PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Articles were retrieved from four databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar) and limited to publications between 2020 and 2025. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. The findings consistently demonstrate that EI is positively associated with academic achievement, clinical performance, decision-making, and quality of care, and in several studies functions as a predictor of professional outcomes. Educational strategies such as simulation-based learning, scenario-based approaches, and structured reflective practice were reported to enhance self-awareness, emotional regulation, and professional confidence. The evidence suggests that EI is most effective when integrated longitudinally and embedded within clinical education rather than delivered solely as a stand-alone subject. Systematic integration of EI within midwifery curricula represents a strategic pathway to strengthening professional competence, patient safety, and maternal-neonatal care quality.

Abstract

Background: Strengthening the quality of midwifery education is crucial to equip future midwives with the competencies required for contemporary practice. Continuity of Care (CoC) learning requires structured learning strategies, appropriate media, and effective evaluation mechanisms based on students’ needs. In this context, mobile applications can support CoC learning through flexible documentation and reporting systems. Objective: This study aimed to identify learning and competency needs for technology-enhanced CoC education among midwifery students. Methods: A convergent mixed-methods design was employed with midwifery students in the Bandung Metropolitan Raya region, West Java, Indonesia, in 2024. Purposive sampling was used to select 310 students for quantitative analysis using STATA 16.0. Qualitative data from online focus group discussions (FGDs) with 34 students were analyzed using NVivo 1.6.1. Results: Quantitative analysis identified learning strategy as the strongest predictor of CoC competency (r = 0.790, p < 0.001). Qualitative findings revealed two main themes: CoC Competencies (with subthemes of CoC Competency Objectives and CoC Core Competencies) and integrated CoC learning components (learning strategy, learning media, and learning evaluation). Conclusion: This study identified four essential components of mobile-based CoC learning, with learning strategies emerging as the strongest predictor of competency. These findings indicate that, although mobile technology enables efficient recording and reporting, it must be integrated with structured learning strategies to effectively strengthen midwifery competencies.

Abstract

Midwifery students are expected to develop good clinical competencies to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and holistic maternal care. However, conventional learning methods often fall short in cultivating critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills. Case-Based Learning (CBL) has emerged as a student-centered pedagogical strategy that bridges the gap between theory and clinical practice. This study aims to map the forms of CBL implementation in midwifery education, particularly in enhancing students’ competencies in cognitive, performance skills, motivational, and collaborative domains, while also highlighting contextual limitations in its application. This scoping review adopted the PRISMA-ScR framework and conducted searches across PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Eligible articles were published between 2020 and 2025, written in English, and presented original full-text research. Out of 655 initially retrieved records, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria after title, abstract, and full-text screening. Findings show that CBL positively contributes to the development of midwifery students’ cognitive competencies, including critical thinking, knowledge retention, and clinical reasoning, as reported in the majority of studies. Improvements in performance skills, such as decision-making and practical readiness, were also noted, particularly when CBL was supported with technology like video-based scenarios and virtual reality. Additionally, CBL fostered student engagement, motivation, and collaboration, although one study reported limited enthusiasm due to contextual factors such as passive delivery. In conclusion, CBL is an effective pedagogical approach for developing cognitive, performance skills, and affective competencies in midwifery students. To optimize its impact, educators should integrate CBL with interactive digital tools such as simulation and virtual reality. These innovations enhance engagement and provide immersive learning experiences that align with the demands of reflective, hands-on maternal care. The findings of this review have important implications for midwifery education, particularly in supporting the adoption of more student-centered and clinically oriented teaching strategies to strengthen students’ competence and readiness for professional practice. Further research is needed to standardize CBL implementation and explore its long-term outcomes across diverse learning environments.

Abstract

Stunting is caused by a lack of nutrients or sickness, and stunted children may have impaired immune systems, increased mortality rates, and are more prone to endure long-term developmental abnormalities. Stunting prevalence in Indonesia remains concerningly high by the end of 2024. Through the use of integrated health posts, or pos pelayanan terpandu (Posyandu), and the technology-based website iPosyandu, attempts are being made to lower the prevalence of stunting. Using toddler data from iPosyandu, this study proposes a Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) model for predicting stunting based on WHO standards, categorizing children as tall, normal, stunted, or severly stunted. By using a genetic algorithm (GA) for learning rate hyperparameter tuning, the LSTM model is significantly improved. Five generations, each with five populations, were used for the GA-based optimization, which explored learning rates ranging from 5.23E-04 to 8.83E-03. The results show that 7.82E-03 was the optimal learning rate, producing the greatest accuracy of 91.10%, indicating that this range improves the performance of LSTM models.
