Abstract

Stunting is a global health issue that affects physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. WHO (2022) reported that 22.3% of children under five years old experience stunting worldwide, with a prevalence of 26.4% in Southeast Asia. In Indonesia, the stunting prevalence is 21.7%, while in Bandung City, it reaches 16.3% (Kemenkes, 2023). One of the efforts to prevent stunting is educating community health cadres on Infant and IYCF as agents of change in society. This study employed a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach involving 400 community health cadres in Bandung City. The training was conducted using a blended learning approach, combining online and offline sessions over four stages. Evaluation was performed through pretest and posttest assessments to measure knowledge improvement and attitude changes among cadres. The results showed an increase in cadre knowledge from 49.7% before the training to 67.8% after the training. However, negative attitudes toward IYCF increased from 46.2% to 56.4%, likely due to implementation challenges in the field. These findings highlight that while training effectively enhances cadre knowledge, practical application in communities still faces obstacles. Therefore, policy support, cross-sectoral involvement, and more effective communication strategies are needed to enable cadres to optimize their role in stunting prevention.

Abstract

Surgical site infections are infections that occur within 30 days of a surgical procedure, including infections in the post-sectio caesarea area that are common and can cause significant morbidity. This study aims to comprehensively identify and analyze the risk factors associated with post-sectio caesarea infection. The method used was a literature review with a PEO framework (Population: post-sectio caesarean section; Exposure: associated risk factors; Result: incidence of infection). Article searches were carried out systematically in official databases such as Google Scholar, Pubmed, Science Direct, and Scopus with the keywords "risk factors" AND "surgical site infections" AND "sectio caesarea", published 2018-2023. The results of the study found eight articles that showed risk factors for post-cesarean section infection, including: the number of vaginal examinations ≥ 5 times, rupture of the amniotic sac ≥ 12 hours, chorioamnionitis, long duration of labor (≥12 hours and ≥ 24 hours), estimated intraoperative blood loss of 500 to ≥ 1000 cc, intraoperative blood transfusion, emergency sectio caesarean section, operative duration of more than 1 hour,  previous history of cesarean section, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and anemia. Understanding and managing infection risk factors effectively is expected to reduce the infection rate in the surgical area, and infection prevention can be done by implementing treatment packages.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the demands of competency-based education require innovation in assessment systems, particularly in midwifery education. One approach that is increasingly being used is the e-portfolio, which is considered capable of continuously documenting students’ competency achievements. However, there is still a lack of studies that specifically examine the effectiveness of e-portfolios in comprehensively and continuously assessing the competency achievement of midwifery students. This study aims to review the use of e-portfolios as a tool for continuous competency-based assessment in the midwifery education curriculum. This study employs a literature review approach guided by the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework. The process of literature search and selection was conducted systematically through academic journal databases, research reports, and relevant articles. The study explores the use of portfolios as an assessment tool, the integration of e-portfolios as part of continuous competency-based assessment, and the evaluation of e-portfolio assessment items in the context of midwifery education. The findings indicate that e-portfolios can enhance student engagement in the learning process, allow for more comprehensive and personalized assessments, and facilitate the continuous development of clinical competencies. The conclusion of this study suggests that e-portfolios hold significant potential as a tool for continuous competency-based assessment in the midwifery education curriculum, provided that adequate infrastructure and appropriate training are available. Recommendations are made for further research and the implementation of best practices in the use of e-portfolios in midwifery education.

Abstract

According to WHO data in 2016, the incidence of skin irritation (diaper rash) was 25% out of 1,000,000 outpatient visits by infants. In Indonesia, the incidence of diaper rash based on data from the Ministry of Health’s Center for Data and Information in 2019 reached 7–35% of 23,604,923 children under the age of three, with 87,601 cases reported in Purwakarta Regency alone. This indicates that the prevalence of diaper rash remains high, primarily due to prolonged diaper use and parents’ lack of knowledge about signs of toilet training readiness, which often results in delays in its implementation. Delayed toilet training can negatively impact a child’s independence, making it important to provide health education for parents to help prevent long-term effects such as hindered self-reliance in children. This study aims to analyze the effect of health education on children's toilet training, delivered through the iPosyandu parent-based application, on mothers' knowledge and attitudes. The research employed a quantitative method using a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 73 mothers of toddlers in Pasawahan Village, Purwakarta Regency. Samples meeting the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and effect size value. The results showed significant differences in mothers’ knowledge and attitudes about children's toilet training before and after the health education intervention via the iPosyandu parent-based application (p < 0.05). Additionally, a strong influence was found between the educational intervention and improvements in both knowledge and attitudes (R ≥ 0.5). In conclusion, health education on children's toilet training delivered through the iPosyandu parent-based application significantly affects mothers’ knowledge and attitudes. Keywords: Attitude, health education, iPosyandu, knowledge, toilet training

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the urgency of integrating the six pillars of health transformation—primary care, referral services, health resilience, health financing, human resources for health, and health technology—into midwifery education and to explore the implications and implementation strategies related to policy, curriculum, and institutional governance. The method used is a systematic literature review with data from electronic databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The instrument employed is a structured literature matrix table, and the data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach to identify thematic patterns and gaps in the existing literature. The findings of this study indicate that integrating the pillars of health transformation into midwifery education is essential for producing graduates who are not only clinically competent but also adaptable to health system dynamics. The results highlight that interprofessional collaboration, digital technologies, experiential learning, and context-based curricula are key components that enhance the quality of midwifery education. The implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum is found to be highly relevant for achieving comprehensive graduate competencies, including both clinical and non-clinical skills such as policy literacy and financial literacy. Therefore, reforming midwifery education is a critical strategy to support the sustainable success of health system transformation, particularly in improving maternal and child healthcare services across various settings, including rural and low-resource areas.

Abstract

Background: The increasing complexity of maternal and child health services in the era of globalization demands effective collaboration among healthcare professionals. Interprofessional Education (IPE) is recognized as a strategic approach to enhance teamwork and communication skills among midwifery students. However, the effective forms and methods of IPE implementation in midwifery education remain underexplored, especially in Indonesia. Methods: This literature review aimed to identify various forms and methods of IPE implementation in midwifery education to improve interprofessional collaboration. Articles were selected from databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and Sage Journals, focusing on studies published between 2017 and 2024. The review included qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies that discussed IPE implementation and its impact on collaborative skills. The PRISMA flow diagram was used to document the selection process. Results: Twelve articles from diverse countries were reviewed, revealing four main forms of IPE implementation: interprofessional simulation and workshops, portfolio/reflection-based learning and assessment, structured programs and certification, and collaborative clinical experiences. These approaches were shown to improve students’ communication, teamwork, and understanding of professional roles. Institutional support and resource investment were identified as key factors for successful IPE integration. Conclusion: IPE implementation in midwifery education enhances students’ interprofessional collaboration skills and has the potential to improve the quality of maternal and child health services. Comprehensive curriculum design and institutional commitment are essential to maximize the benefits of IPE in preparing future midwives for collaborative practice.
