Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods in midwifery education and to identify key barriers to their effective implementation. This study employed a systematic literature review method conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework and aligned with PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Articles were sourced from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, limited to publications from 2020 to March 2025. Data were analyzed through qualitative thematic analysis, with contextual analysis applied where relevant to infer missing or ambiguous details in the source articles. Of 182 articles identified, 9 met the inclusion criteria. The review revealed four main AI applications: predictive analytics for risk identification, decision support systems (DSS) for evidence-based practice, AI-powered simulations for clinical training, and generative AI tools like ChatGPT for fostering critical thinking and digital literacy. Despite these advancements, challenges such as ethical concerns (algorithmic bias, privacy issues), poor data quality, limited AI expertise among educators, and resistance to change in traditional learning environments were noted. AI has the potential to transform midwifery education, but overcoming technical, ethical, and pedagogical barriers is essential for its successful integration. Enhancing faculty capacity, ensuring data integrity, and incorporating AI literacy into curricula are vital steps toward sustainable implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the urgency of integrating the six pillars of health transformation—primary care, referral services, health resilience, health financing, human resources for health, and health technology—into midwifery education and to explore the implications and implementation strategies related to policy, curriculum, and institutional governance. The method used is a systematic literature review with data from electronic databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The instrument employed is a structured literature matrix table, and the data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach to identify thematic patterns and gaps in the existing literature. The findings of this study indicate that integrating the pillars of health transformation into midwifery education is essential for producing graduates who are not only clinically competent but also adaptable to health system dynamics. The results highlight that interprofessional collaboration, digital technologies, experiential learning, and context-based curricula are key components that enhance the quality of midwifery education. The implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum is found to be highly relevant for achieving comprehensive graduate competencies, including both clinical and non-clinical skills such as policy literacy and financial literacy. Therefore, reforming midwifery education is a critical strategy to support the sustainable success of health system transformation, particularly in improving maternal and child healthcare services across various settings, including rural and low-resource areas.

Abstract

Non-compliance of pregnant women in consuming iron (Fe) tablets can lead to low hemoglobin (Hb) levels, increasing the risk of anemia. Some mothers attempt to use mobile phone alarms as reminders; however, this method is less effective as it does not record the number of tablets consumed. Therefore, a reminder in the form of an alarm through the iPosyandu Keluarga application is needed to help mothers consistently take Fe tablets. This study aims to analyze the correlation between pregnant women's compliance in consuming Fe tablets using the iPosyandu Keluarga application and Hb levels based on demographic characteristics. This research employed an analytical cross-sectional design conducted in February 2024 in the working area of the Margajaya Health Center, involving 58 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Characteristic data were obtained from the back-end system of the iPosyandu Keluarga application, and Hb levels were measured after 30 days of Fe tablet consumption. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman test. The results of this study showed a strong correlation between the compliance of pregnant women based on the iPosyandu keluarga  application and Hb levels (p-value <0.05; r value = 0.60-0.799). However, there was no correlation between the compliance of pregnant women in consuming Fe tablets and characteristics (p-value> 0.05; r value = 0.00-0.199). The conclusion of this study shows that the use of the iPosyandu keluarga application is related to the compliance of pregnant women in consuming Fe tablets with Hb levels, without any relation to demographic characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the interdisciplinary approach in midwifery higher education curricula. The research method utilized a scoping review of the Scopus, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases. This method included the identification of research questions, searching for appropriate literature, selecting relevant studies, and mapping and analyzing data to identify knowledge gaps. The data analysis technique employed was thematic analysis. The results identified ten key articles that highlighted several key themes: midwifery education and training models, implementation of global standards, innovation in learning, and interprofessional collaboration. Findings showed that the Continuity of Midwifery (CoM) approach and mentor training positively impacted students' learning experiences, but clinical evaluation and supporting facilities still require significant improvement. The CoM education model underscored students' preferences for autonomous and collaborative practice. Enhancements to clinical evaluation and support facilities were recognized as important steps to improve the quality of education. Additionally, the implementation of global standards and innovation in interprofessional education is crucial for improving interprofessional collaboration and care outcomes. It is recommended to strengthen interprofessional approaches and community learning, as well as to engage students as researchers, to prepare them for the complex challenges in midwifery practice. These steps are expected to enhance the competency of midwifery graduates globally.

Abstract

Education serves as a transformative process that enhances human potential for the betterment. The Minister of Education and Culture initiated the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program (MBKM) in 2020 to equip graduates with the skills to meet global challenges. However, since its inception at universities, the health study program curriculum has struggled to align with this policy. This study investigates the MBKM's implementation within the health study program curriculum. A literature review was conducted, sourcing material from databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Worldcat, focusing on literature published from 2020 to 2024 in both Indonesian and English with full-text availability. The literature review aimed to provide a thorough understanding of the subject, with inclusion and exclusion criteria ensuring the relevance and integrity of the literature. The findings reveal that several health study programs have adopted the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program, noting improvements in students' hard and soft skills in preparation for employment. Nonetheless, challenges persist in the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program execution, including inadequate preparedness for learning, lecturer/facilitator involvement, and a need for more detailed information on MBKM Campus Program's implementation.
