Abstract

This review article focuses on the administration of ketapang leaf extract to enhance non-specific immunity in fish. Ketapang leaves have been of interest as a potential immunostimulant in aquaculture to boost the non-specific immune response in fish. In this review, various studies exploring the effects of ketapang leaf extract on the non-specific immune response of fish have been examined. The findings suggest that the administration of ketapang leaf extract can lead to an increase in non-specific immune parameters, such as phagocytosis activity, lysozyme activity, and total protein content. The potential use of ketapang leaf extract as an immunostimulant in aquaculture shows promising results in enhancing the non-specific immune response of fish. Strengthening the non-specific immune system can help fish combat various pathogens and diseases, thereby improving their overall health and survival in aquaculture settings. However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms of action and optimal dosage of ketapang leaf extract as an immunostimulant. Additionally, considering its potential positive impact on fish health, the use of ketapang leaf extract in aquaculture warrants comprehensive studies to ensure its safe and effective implementation.

Abstract

They are fish(Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the freshwater fish that is easy to keep, its growth is relatively fast. Apart from that, it is a consumer favorite because of its thick flesh and delicious taste. One technology that can be used as an alternative is biofloc technology because it is able to minimize land use and improve water quality and increase nutrient utilization. Probiotics containing microorganisms can be given via feed or water as a medium. Supraptoet al., (2013), expressed the opinion that the use of probiotics in the environment for bioremediation can improve water quality and break down organic matter. This research aims to evaluate the performance of tilapia production in a biofloc system with different types of conventional probiotics. This research used an experimental method with the experiment used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) starting from 5 treatments repeated 3 times. The provision of probiotics in the water media of the biofloc system has a significant effect on the parameters of absolute weight growth, absolute length growth, and floc volume. With each treatment, the best was obtained in treatment B, namely 9.51 grams, treatment C was 0.15ml/l. Meanwhile, the addition of probiotics to the biofloc system water media had no effect on the parameters of erythrocytes, leukocytes, hematocrit, hemoglobin.

Abstract

The development of Ekas Bay as a center for integrated aquaculture activities, particularly through the Floating Net Cage (FNC) system, can impact phytoplankton abundance and water fertility. Phytoplankton, a type of plankton capable of photosynthesis, acts as a primary producer and serves as a key food source for fish and lobsters. The presence of phytoplankton is closely related to the fertility levels of waters designated for marine aquaculture. This study aims to determine the composition and abundance of phytoplankton in the waters of Ekas Bay. The research employed purposive sampling, collecting phytoplankton samples from five predetermined stations: three points near FNCs and two points distant from the FNC area. The results indicate that the plankton abundance in the waters of Ekas Bay is categorized as mesotrophic. The highest phytoplankton abundance was recorded at Station V with 9,523 cells/L, while the lowest was at Station II with 2,150 cells/L. Based on station characteristics, Station V is the farthest point from FNCs, whereas Station II contains a high concentration of FNCs. The community structure, as indicated by the H’, E, and D values, suggests that the waters of Ekas Bay remain in a stable condition. Phytoplankton from the class Bacillariophyta was the most commonly found, although no specific genus was dominant.
