Abstract

The objective of this research was to study antenatal care (ANC) practices and its association to anaemia on adolescent pregnancies. A cross-sectional design was applied in Bogor City between January to March 2016. A number of 72 pregnant adolescents (aged 10-19 years) participated in the study. Hemoglobin was collected through venous blood and analyzed with cyanmethemoglobin method. Data analysis using Chi-square test. The result showed that 30.6% of pregnant adolescent came lately for their first visit of antenatal care (missed first trimester). Overall, the prevalence of anaemia (Hb <11 g/dl) was found to be 45.8%. There was no significant association between anaemia with consumption of iron supplementation, energy intake, iron intake, and vitamin C intake (p>0.05). However, there was a significant association between protein intake and anaemia (p<0.05). Antenatal care pratices on adolescencts pregnancy was low. Many of them had anaemia in their pregnancy. Protein intake should be increased to reduce the incidence of anemia in adolescents pregnancy. Keywords: anaemia, antenatal care, pregnant adolescent

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of calamansi juice intervention on lipid profiles of overweight adult women. The pre-post and randomized single-blinded clinical study were applied on 24 subjects who were randomly and alocated into two group, i.e group A (300 ml 100% pure calamansi juice) and group B (300 ml and 50% concentrante calamansi juice). The juice was given twice a day (each 150 ml) for 28 days and lipid profiles were analyzed before and after intervention. The result showed a significant decrease (p<0.05) after intervention in Triglyseride plasma (TG) level (-23.67±21.81 and -2.33±22.39 mg/dl), low density lipoprotein (LDL-c) -30.58±25.05 and 12.42±26.66 mg/d), total cholesterol (TC) 23.50±30.90 and 12.00±30.80 mg/dl and a significant increase (p<0.05) in high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) plasma level (10.25±11.91 and 0.33±8.57 mg/dl). Meanwhile, in group B there was no significant change in lipid profiles. The intervention of 300 ml pure calamansi juice improved the lipid profile of overweight women.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to estimate carotenoid intake of Indonesian adults. A cross-sectional study design was used in this study. Secondary data was analyzed from the national consumption survey 2014 that was conducted by Research and Development Department of Indonesia Health Ministry. The number of subjects were 86,036. Assessment of food consumption used food recall 1x24 hour. Carotenoid content was obtained from the various references that have been matched to survey’s food items. The total carotenoid intake was the sum of five carotenoid sub-classes (α-caroten, β-caroten, β-cryptoxanthine, lutein + zeaxanthine and lycopene). Median of total carotenoid intake was 551.62 µg/day. Intake of total carotenoid was significantly difference by subject characteristics (gender, age, area, education level, job) and food groups consumption (p<0.05).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of tempe drink intervention on lipid profile of hypercholesterolemic subjects. This study used a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design with 51 males and females subjects with the inclusion criterias were adults aged 25-55 years, not being menopause and pregnant, total cholesterol levels ≥200 mg/dl and signed informed consent. The subjects were divided into three treatments - Tempe Drink of A (TDA) formulated from local sprouted soybean, Tempe Drink of B (TDB) formulated from imported soybean and control. The tempe drink was given three glasses a day for four weeks, contained at least 25 g of protein/day. The control treatment was not given the tempe drink. Lipid profile (total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides (TG)) was collected before and after  intervention. The results showed that both TDA and TDB decreased total cholesterol, LDL, and TG of subjects, respectively 26.7 mg/dl and 17.3 mg/dl; 3.6 mg/dl and 1.0 mg/dl; and 16.2 mg/dl and 3.7 mg/dl compared to control subjects, but did not increase HDL of subjects. This implies that tempe drink had beneficial health effect on lowering total cholesterol, LDL and TG.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze diet quality of male workers. Study design was cross-sectional, involving 101 male workers of PT. Semen Indonesia Tuban, East Java aged 25-55 years old. Subjects were chosen using purposive sampling based on inclusion criterias. US adapted Alternate Healthy Index (AHEI) was used to assess diet quality that consists of 11 components. Components and portions were modified based on Indonesian Dietary Guidelines 2014. The result showed that grains and alcohol components had good score (10) and the lowest score was in sweetened beverages component (1.4). AHEI-score range from 45.1 to 95.7 and the mean was 69.5. More than half of workers (75.2%) diet quality was in need of improvement category (AHEI scores <76.2). Education level and working unit were correlated with diet quality (p<0.05). Workers diet quality in PT. Semen Indonesia Tuban needs to be improved.

Abstract

This cohort study aimed to analyze the effect of dehydration on pregnancy outcome. A total of 66 pregnant women aged (18-35 years) at second trimester (>12 weeks) of pregnancy was recruited from seven health centers (Puskesmas) Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta from December 2016 to January 2018. Five biomarkers (urine color, urine osmolality, urine specific gravity, serum osmolality, serum sodium) were utilized to determine hydration status. Based on the result, subjects were then assigned to dehydration group (DG) and normal group (NG), 51.5% was in the DG and 48.5%, in the NG respectively. Independent t-tests and Chi-square were employed to answer research questions. There were differences in weight of the mothers in the second and third trimester between the two groups (p<0.05), but no differences in weight gain during pregnancy (p≥0.05). More than fifty percent of subjects suffered nausea and vomiting during pregnancy in the two groups. Water intake level in DG (72.53±14.41%) were lower than NG (118.68±14.37%). The accounted difference in Infant birth weight, length, chest circumference and head circumference; were 491.84 g, 0.98 cm, 0.98 cm, and 1.11 cm, respectively where infant from the NG had higher measurements than DG. After adjustment for water intake level, the infant birth weight and length in DG (2,798.53±97.85 g; 47.32±0.32 cm) was lower than NG (3,371.77±102.60 g; 49.09±0.33 cm). The accounted difference in infant birth weight and length between the two groups were 596.1 g and 1.8 cm, respectively. Thus in addition to nutrient intake and weight gain during pregnancy, pregnant mothers should also concern for their fluid intake in order to maintain their health condition and feotal growth - development.
