Abstract

In today's globalized world, the increasing need for English language ability has highlighted the necessity of good language acquisition and communication abilities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a viable aid in the field of education, including language acquisition, as technology advances. This study does a literature review to investigate the function of AI in the development of communication skills in English language learners. The goal of this research is to look at the existing research and literature on the use of AI-based technologies in English language learning environments. The essay opens with an overview of artificial intelligence and its possible uses in education. It then looks into the various methods in which AI might help English language learners strengthen their communication skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The findings of this literature review suggest that AI has the potential to significantly enhance English language learners' communication skills by providing personalized and interactive learning experiences. However, further research is needed to explore the long-term effects and optimal integration of AI in language learning environments. In conclusion, this article highlights the transformative role of AI in English language education and its potential to address the diverse needs of language learners. By understanding the current state of research and exploring the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in language learning, educators and policymakers can make informed decisions to harness the benefits of AI technology and maximize its impact on developing effective communication skills among English language learners.

Abstract

This article discusses character education through hybrid learning based on local wisdom to develop students' potential. The concept of character education today should not only focus on universal normative values, but also need to accommodate local wisdom that exists in the student's social environment. Hybrid learning is a learning approach that combines face-to-face classes with online learning. This learning is the right alternative in the effort to develop students' potential, because it can provide opportunities for students to learn independently, optimize the use of information and communication technology, and can build children's character growth. This research found that hybrid learning based on local wisdom can help students in developing their character, such as self-confidence, work ethic, and creativity. The results of this study are expected to contribute and guide educators to enrich learning methods and integrate local wisdom in character learning.

Abstract

The success of English Language Teaching is indicated by the mastery of communicative competence by the students. One of them is sociolinguistic competence that is focused on human interaction. In this research, researcher would to find out what the teachers have done to students’ speaking skill and students’ motivation through Icebreaker technique or in other words to figure out the process and the final result of the learning of speaking. This was descriptive quantitative; The subjects of this research were English teachers at the Junior High School 2 Gunung Labuhan. The data were collected through classroom observation, speaking test, and questionnaire. The results showed that (1) Almost in every meeting the teachers used Icebreaker technique such as guessing word, riddle, sharing experience, burning question, topic lead in, quiz and brainstorming. These were used to motivate and train students to speak up, and also make the students enjoy and active in the process of teaching and learning. (2) Students speaking skill were good; it can be seen from their score for every component, students’ comprehension (4.48), Grammar (4.1), Vocabulary (4.34), Pronunciation (4.18), and fluency (3.88). (3) Icebreaker motivates students to ask and answer teachers’ questions during the process of learning. It also rouses up students’ interest to learn. Based on the finding, the researcher concludes that Icebreaker technique is useful, especially in increasing students speaking skill and also their motivation in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of Pre-cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II and Cycle III. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of the PAIKEM model can improve student learning outcomes. Each consists of planning, implementation, evaluation and reflection. Learning outcome data obtained by using tests. Analysis of the mastery test of learning outcomes in the pre-cycle reached 26.67%, in the first cycle it reached 53.33%, in the second cycle it reached 60% and in the third cycle it reached 73.33%. Based on the percentage in cycle III it can be said that it has achieved classical learning mastery. The results of the data analysis show that the application of the PAIKEM model can improve student learning outcomes. Based on the results of this research, it is suggested to the teacher that the application of the learning model is applied as an innovation in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This literature review examines the impact of gamification in English language teaching (ELT) on motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes. Gamification, the integration of game elements into education, has gained attention as a promising approach to enhance language learning. The findings reveal that gamification positively influences student motivation in ELT. Elements like points, leaderboards, and rewards create a sense of achievement and intrinsic motivation. Engaged students are more likely to persist and participate actively in language learning. Gamification promotes active learning and engagement, with interactive activities involving vocabulary acquisition, grammar practice, and language production. It provides a safe space for students to experiment, apply knowledge, and develop linguistic skills. Collaboration and social interaction are fostered through gamification, encouraging teamwork and peer feedback. This enhances language and interpersonal skills. Immediate feedback and progress tracking in gamification offer valuable learning opportunities. Students receive real-time feedback and monitor their progress, enabling adjustments in learning strategies. However, implementing gamification in ELT faces challenges such as technology constraints and pedagogical considerations. Striking a balance between engagement and curriculum objectives is crucial. Teacher training and professional development are necessary. In conclusion, gamification plays a significant role in ELT by enhancing motivation, engagement, collaboration, and active learning. Despite challenges, embracing gamification and its best practices

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence and parenting style on adversity intelligence. The population in this study were teenagers who attended junior and senior high schools in Jakarta. Testing the validity of the construct and statistical analysis of Structural Equating Modeling (SEM) obtained a fit model of the influence of emotional intelligence, parenting, and demographic variables on the role-influence of adversity-fit intelligence with empirical data. The results of the study show that the emotional intelligence variable evaluates other people's emotions; parenting style is not involved; and the demographic variables of gender and education level have a significant effect on adversity intelligence. Evaluation of other people's emotions has a negative direction towards adversity intelligence. That is, a high evaluation of other people's emotions has an impact on a low adversity quotient. As with uninvolved parenting, gender and education level have a positive relationship. This study aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence and parenting style on adversity intelligence. Abstract
