Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the gap between work expectations and actual workplace realities from the perspective of young Indonesian workers in the offshore oil and gas industry, focusing on how such discrepancies affect job satisfaction, psychological well-being, and organizational loyalty. Research Methodology: An exploratory qualitative approach was employed, involving semi-structured in-depth interviews with 15 offshore workers aged 22–35, located in Natuna and the Java Sea. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis framework, which enabled systematic identification of recurring themes related to expectations, psychological stress, and retention. Results: Findings reveal that young workers’ expectations are shaped by media portrayals and institutional narratives that glamorize offshore work. However, the realities long shifts, isolation, and psychological strain often lead to disillusionment. Many participants experienced cognitive dissonance, reduced job satisfaction, and a strong intention to resign. The study also uncovered a psychological entrapment phenomenon, where workers remained not out of satisfaction but due to a lack of viable alternatives. Conclusions: The Expectation-Disconfirmation Theory and Psychological Contract Theory effectively explain the disconnect between expectations and job experiences. In offshore contexts, misalignment can significantly impact worker loyalty and mental health. Limitations: The study is limited in sample size (15 participants) and geographic scope (Natuna and Java Sea). It also lacks managerial or HR perspectives, restricting organizational-level analysis. Contribution: This study offers practical implications for HR management in high-risk industries, emphasizing realistic recruitment, mental preparedness, and integrated psychological support. It also contributes novel insights into the concept of psychological entrapment in early-career professionals.

Abstract

This community development program aims to enhance the motivation and self-confidence of inmates at Cipinang Prison in order to break the cycle of poverty and prevent them from repeating past mistakes. The program involved 30 participants, most of whom were recidivists, facing the main challenge of negative social stigma that perceives former inmates as incapable of change. The solution introduced through the training was the utilization of household waste to produce eco enzyme products. These products have proven to be economically valuable and beneficial for health, thereby improving the living standards of inmates while simultaneously creating business opportunities. The simple and low-cost production process enabled participants to acquire new skills, while training on branding and packaging provided added value and increased product competitiveness in the market. Beyond empowering inmates, this program also contributes to environmental sustainability and promotes a healthy lifestyle at an affordable cost. The transformation of waste into health-supporting products demonstrates the wise use of natural resources and fosters entrepreneurial spirit among participants. Thus, this activity serves as an initial step in empowerment, expected to improve the quality of life and open better future opportunities for inmates.

Abstract

The increasing frequency of natural disasters highlights the importance of efficient humanitarian logistics in post-disaster response. This study examines the logistics challenges and adaptive responses during the 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala, Indonesia. Interviews with 10 key stakeholders including national agencies, NGOs, military units, and local volunteers were analyzed using thematic analysis. Four themes emerged: infrastructure vulnerabilities, adaptive logistics strategies, multi-actor coordination, and system improvement. Findings show that damaged infrastructure and inconsistent survivor data significantly delayed aid distribution. However, adaptive responses such as drone mapping, logistics hubs, and helicopter drops mitigated accessibility barriers. Coordination improved in later phases through joint command posts and national logistics platforms. The study emphasizes the need for integrated logistics information systems and community-based preparedness to strengthen supply chain resilience. Limitations include the small sample size and localized scope, suggesting that future research should involve broader comparative studies across different disaster contexts. This research contributes to humanitarian logistics literature by providing grounded insights into the interplay of systemic risk, adaptive response, and governance in a complex disaster setting.

Abstract

This study reviews and synthesizes current knowledge on eco-efficient transport models within the frameworks of green logistics and the circular economy. The aim is to evaluate how technological, regulatory, and economic factors influence adoption and implementation. Literature was systematically gathered from major databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, using targeted keywords and Boolean search strategies. Inclusion criteria prioritized peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2025 that addressed sustainable logistics, circular supply chains, and digital innovations. The review identified four major themes: drivers, barriers, case studies, and regional comparisons. Findings reveal that digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things, enhance transparency, traceability, and efficiency. Regulatory frameworks, particularly in Europe, accelerate adoption, while economic incentives strengthen competitiveness. However, barriers persist, especially high initial costs, infrastructural deficits, and weak enforcement in developing economies. Case studies confirm measurable benefits, such as emission reductions and cost savings, while comparative analyses show significant regional disparities. The discussion emphasizes the importance of systemic alignment across policy, markets, and organizational culture to overcome these challenges. Future research is recommended to expand empirical evidence, develop standardized evaluation tools, and examine underrepresented regions. Overall, the review highlights the urgent need for integrated strategies that combine technology, regulation, and collaboration to advance sustainable logistics.

Abstract

The adoption of autonomous vehicles in freight transport represents a transformative shift in global logistics. However, research remains fragmented regarding the balance between efficiency, sustainability, safety, and user acceptance. This narrative review synthesizes recent empirical studies to identify critical opportunities and challenges in autonomous freight systems. The findings indicate substantial efficiency and cost benefits, particularly through truck platooning and automated last-mile delivery solutions. Environmental outcomes are generally positive, though lifecycle trade-offs such as infrastructure wear and energy sources complicate sustainability claims. Safety concerns persist in mixed-traffic environments, where operational reliability and public trust remain unresolved. User acceptance is shaped by demographic and sectoral factors, with stronger receptivity in industries handling perishable or time-sensitive goods. The review highlights that adoption trajectories are contingent on systemic factors, including regulatory alignment, infrastructure readiness, and financing mechanisms. These insights underscore the need for adaptive policy frameworks, targeted training, and inclusive financing models to ensure that autonomous freight technologies enhance not only efficiency but also long-term sustainability and equity.
