Abstract

Smoking behavior is a significant risk factor causing heart and blood vessel disorders and resulting in high mortality rates. It is essential to stop this behavior as an effort to prevent and control risk factors, break the chain of nicotine addiction, and reduce the prevalence of heart and blood vessel disease. This study aimed to improve the knowledge and attitudes of smoking cessation in active smokers. The coaching clinic using smoking effect video learning for nine active smokers in RT 02 RW 06 Pasar Ambacang, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. A smoking cessation questionnaire was used to measure attitudes of respondents. The results found a significant increase in smoking cessation scores from 18 to 22 after participating in education. Video-based education is effective for increasing knowledge and motivating smokers to want to stop smoking. Continuous education and assistance are needed to increase the implementation of smoking cessation in the community.

Abstract

The study aimed to examine the correlation of determinant factors of quality of life in coronary arterial disease (CAD) patients, including knowledge of disease, smoking cessation, physical activity, and dietary regulation. A quantitative, cross-sectional study using convenience was conducted among 216 CAD patients from the West Sumatra, Indonesia, outpatient cardiovascular center. Data were collected using the cardiovascular disease knowledge assessment questionnaire, smoking cessation, physical activity, diet questionnaire, and self-assessment questionnaire to measure knowledge of the disease, smoking cessation, physical activity, diet, and quality of life, respectively data analysis using Chi-square, Pearson correlation, and multivariate linear regression test. The result showed that dietary regulation was the most influential variable on the quality of life of CAD patients (B=1.670, SE=0.341), followed by smoking cessation, physical activity, and knowledge about the disease. Our data suggest that dietary regulation, smoking cessation, and regular physical activity as modifiable CAD risk factors and disease knowledge improve the quality of life of CAD patients. Future research and clinician intervention for CAD awareness of lifestyle modification should be expanded to focus on barriers and their challenges during cardiac rehabilitation.

Abstract

In the digital era, social media usage has become an integral part of daily life, particularly among adolescents. This study investigates the relationship between anxiety, loneliness, sleep disorders, and social media addiction among adolescents. A cross-sectional study involving 290 X and XI-grade students utilized standardized instruments: the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS/SRAS), UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test (p<0.05). Findings revealed 10.7% severe social media addiction, 21.4% severe anxiety, 4.8% significant loneliness, and 74.5% poor sleep quality. Significant associations were found between anxiety (p=0.013), loneliness (p=0.010), sleep disturbance (p=0.033), and social media addiction. Higher anxiety, loneliness, and poor sleep quality correlate with increased susceptibility to social media addiction among adolescents. This underscores the importance of addressing psychological well-being in interventions aimed at mitigating social media addiction.

Abstract

Depression is a prevalent mental health issue among Indonesian adolescents. Adolescents grappling with depression face various challenges, including exclusion, discrimination, educational difficulties, and violations of human rights. Limited knowledge about depression contributes to stigma, which impacts teenagers' reluctance to seek professional help. This study aimed to examine the correlation between adolescents' knowledge and the stigma of depression. Using a cross-sectional framework, this study involved 240 high school students from grades 10, 11, and 12. All participants completed and returned the requisite instruments. Knowledge about depression was assessed using the adolescent depression knowledge questionnaire (ADKQ), while the depression stigma scale (DSS) was used to gauge levels of stigma. The relationship between knowledge and stigma was analysed using the Spearman rank test. The findings indicate that the mean score for adolescents' knowledge about depression was 7.00 (SD=2.72), while the mean score for stigmatisation of depression was 42.02 (SD=8.43). A significant relationship between knowledge and stigma was observed (p<0.0001), characterised by moderate strength and a negative direction (r=-0.45). The study concludes that more excellent knowledge about depression among adolescents is inversely related to the level of the stigma they harbour. It is therefore recommended that mental health nurses in Community Health Centers enhance educational and counselling programs to inform adolescents about depression better. Collaboration between academic institutions and healthcare facilities, along with the development of school-based mental health programs, is imperative for reducing the stigma associated with depression among students.

Abstract

In West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, approximately 13.01% of individuals aged 15 years or older are affected by mental and emotional disorders, ranking it as the third highest among the 34 provinces. Excessive smartphone use has emerged as a potential influencer of mental health, associated with social networking addiction, shyness, and low self-esteem. This study aimed to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction and mental health issues in adolescents using a cross-sectional design. The sample included 283 randomly selected students aged 15-17 years. Smartphone addiction was measured using the smartphone addiction scale-short version (SAS-SV), and mental health was assessed using the strength and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ). The study revealed a significant association (p<0.001) between smartphone addiction and mental health problems among adolescents, with 72.1% of respondents experiencing smartphone addiction and 26.9% classified as having abnormal mental health. These findings emphasize the need for increased awareness regarding the negative impact of excessive smartphone use on adolescent mental health. Schools should play a vital role in addressing this issue through the provision of guidance and counseling services. Future research should investigate causal relationships using longitudinal designs and consider diverse populations to enhance the generalizability of the results.

Abstract

A validated instrument is crucial for assessing oncology nursing care in Indonesia. This study focused on translating, adapting, and validating the QONCS among Indonesian cancer patients and families. Initial feedback from nursing academicians and pilot participants guided the adaptation process. Validation involved distributing the instrument via Google Forms to 8 cancer referral hospitals, gathering responses from 148 individuals. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) assessed validity, while Cronbach's alpha measured internal consistency. Synonyms and examples were added to enhance item clarity. Eight items were removed due to poor construct validity, resulting in improved statistics (r statistic: 0.653-0.818; average variance extracted: 0.742). The revised instrument demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach's alpha: 0.967). This study confirms the Indonesian QONCS version as a valid and reliable tool for evaluating oncology nursing care. It is recommended for oncology nurses to utilize the QONCS to enhance the quality of care provided.

Abstract

Self-care in adult hypertensive patients from previous studies, it was found that only some of the variables related to self-care management were found. Comprehensive self-care has not been found from previous studies so that the limitations in accessing and studying self-care management in adult hypertensive patients are not fully comprehensive. Conduct a literature review to determine the factors of self-care management by adult hypertensive patients. A literature search was conducted through the search engine databases PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar and obtained 371 research articles and then checked the menu completeness of the research articles with a total of 238 articles. After that, a separation of criteria and a critical review stage was carried out using the Joanna Bringgs Institute (JBI) format with a total of 5 articles that were reviewed in the literature. Self-care has variables which include smoking cessation, reducing body weight if overweight, hypertension diet, regular exercise, reducing alcohol consumption, and managing stress, as well as increasing medication adherence. Factors influencing self-care include gender, age, marital status, duration of hypertension, knowledge, self-efficacy, social support and economic status. Self-care of hypertension in adulthood can be influenced by various factors, so it is suggested that future researchers can implement innovative intervention strategies needed to control related factors.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to determine the association of physical activity and self-efficacy in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among outpatients of coronary heart disease at a cardiovascular center. A total of 238 coronary heart disease patients were included in the study using a purposive sampling technique. The self-efficacy was measured using the cardiac self-efficacy scales (CSE), and the physical activity was measured using the long form International Physical Activity Questionnaire  (IPAQ). Data analysis used the Chi-square test, Spearman correlation test and multivariate linear regression. Results: Self-efficacy was strongly positively correlated with physical activity in coronary heart disease patients (r = 0.956; p = 0.001). Domain-specific correlations included domestic (r=0.419, p<0.001), work (r=0.383, p<0.001), leisure time (r=0.296, p<0.001), and transport (r=0.247, p<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that employment status had the most significant negative impact on physical activity (B = -246.477), while age (B = 123. 889) and self-efficacy (B = 93.513) were positively associated with physical activity. These results indicate that higher self-efficacy and older age are linked to increased physical activity, whereas employment status is associated with decreased physical activity. Conclusions: In this population, self-efficacy, remaining working status and age are important factors of physical activity in coronary heart disease patients. Keywords: coronary heart disease, good health and well-being, physical activity, self-efficacy
