Abstract

An analysis of how a well-known female public person is portrayed in international and local web media, with a focus on gender representation. The study clarifies the significance of impartial and fair coverage of female leaders in the media by using a feminist stylistics approach. This can help to promote gender equality in society and destroy gender stereotypes. Using a qualitative approach, this study investigates how gender relations are portrayed at the word, phrase/sentence, and discourse levels utilizing feminist stylistics framework developed by Sara Mills. The results show that cultural norms and Sri Mulyani's standing both domestically and globally have an impact on how the Indonesian Minister of Finance is portrayed on foreign and domestic news websites. These factors produce discrete but diverse outcomes. The study finds that the minister is treated properly and without overt gender prejudice by utilizing the feminist stylistics theory framework's three levels of analysis. Abstract

This study explores the cognitive stylistic features of Maroon 5’s song “Animal” through the lens of conceptual metaphor theory and schema theory. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the research examines the interplay between metaphorical language and cognitive processes to uncover how figurative expressions evoke imagery, emotions, and conceptual mappings related to primal instincts and desire. The analysis focuses on identifying metaphorical expressions such as hunting and predation, interpreting their cognitive and emotional resonance. The findings reveal that metaphors and vivid imagery in the song not only depict themes of obsession and vulnerability but also activate cognitive schemas, connecting listeners to the raw, instinctual aspects of human nature. This study contributes to the field of cognitive stylistics by providing insights into how language interacts with cognition to construct meaning and elicit emotional responses in artistic texts.

The methodology consists of a detailed textual analysis of the lyrics, focusing on identifying and interpreting these devices concerning the song’s thematic elements. The findings indicate that the song addresses themes of relationship evaluation, self-discovery, and the intricacies of interpersonal connections. The metaphorical language, melodic and lyrical structure, and vocal delivery contribute to the song’s emotional depth and thematic complexity. The study concludes that the use of schema theory helps elucidate how these stylistic elements influence listeners’ understanding and emotional engagement with the song, enhancing their overall experience.

Abstract

his research aims to analyze Damsel (2024), a movie related to gender role and power dynamic that analyzed through the lens of feminist stylistics. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach and conducted into three levels: word level, phrase/sentence level, and discourse level, following the frame of feminist stylistics introduced by Sara Mills (1995). At the word level, strong and assertive language is used by female characters, particularly Elodie and the stepmother, to resist patriarchal oppression. At the sentence level, active sentence structures position Elodie as the driving force of the narrative rather than a passive victim. At the discourse level, the film challenges the trope of the helpless princess and instead presents a protagonist who fights for justice and subverts traditional power dynamics. In conclusion, the feminist stylistic analysis of Damsel (2024) movie reveals that the film actively dismantles gender role and power dynamic by using language and character interactions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the gender dynamics reflected in the film Boston Strangler (2023) using a qualitative by feminist stylistics approach. The research examines how the film's linguistic representation reflects the challenges and progress of women in investigative journalism. By employing linguistic and stylistic analysis, the study identifies language choices, sentence structures, and discourse patterns that either reinforce or challenge traditional gender constructs in the media. The findings reveal that at the lexical level, the film often depicts men as authoritative figures, while women are portrayed as emotional or excessive in asserting their professionalism. Sentence structures further emphasize gender inequalities, with female characters frequently having to justify their abilities in the workplace. On a broader discourse level, while the film highlights the structural barriers faced by women in male-dominated fields, it also showcases their resilience in challenging societal expectations. This study underscores the significance of language in shaping gender perceptions and provides deeper insights into the representation of women in the media. It also contributes to broader discussions on the portrayal of women on screen and the role of media in shaping social norms. Future research could explore similar linguistic patterns in other films within the same genre to observe the evolving portrayal of gender in cinema.

Abstract

This study uses Sara Mills' feminist stylistics theoretical framework to analyze how Little Mix's song “Power” actively challenges traditional gender norms through language.  The main goal is to examine how this song challenge gender stereotypes by portraying women as strong and in charge rather than just calling for equality or opposing oppression. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines song lyrics at three levels: words, phrases/sentences, and discourse in accordance with Sara Mills' theoretical framework (1995). The findings of this study prove that Little Mix's power song is full of lyrics that actively break traditional gender stereotypes, affirming that women can hold and have control, not as a concession from men, but as an inherent right. The language used in the song successfully challenges patriarchal roles, reinforcing the idea that power is not only limited to masculine men but is also accessible to women. The song is a true feminist anthem.
