Abstract

This article aims to examine the knowledge identity crisis faced by pesantren in Indonesia as a result of developments in the digital era. The research was conducted at three major pesantren: Futuhiyyah Mranggen, Al-Asy’ariyah Wonosobo and Al-Munawir Yogyakarta. Data were collected through participatory observation, interviews with pesantren managers, including Kiai, administrators, and teachers, as well as documentation of relevant materials. The findings reveal that the knowledge identity crisis in pesantren during the digital era manifests in several ways: an excessive learning burden on santri unrelated to the core competencies of pesantren knowledge, a decline in santri’s interest in studying traditional pesantren knowledge, and the institutional development of pesantren that has become disoriented from their foundational knowledge identity. To address this crisis, pesantren must refocus their learning programs to align with core competencies, reorient their knowledge systems to be adaptive and responsive to global needs, and restructure their institutions to remain rooted in the core knowledge identity of pesantren.

Abstract

Baitul Mal Wat Tamwil (BMT) is a microfinance institution that provides financial services to the community based on Islamic principles. However, a common challenge faced by BMT is problematic financing. This researcher aims to determine the factors that cause financing risk and mitigate the risk of financing problems at BMT Brothers. A descriptive method with a qualitative approach was used because it can provide a comprehensive picture of how financing risk mitigation was carried out with BMT leaders as research respondents in November – December 2023. The research results were obtained by knowing the factors causing financing problems (internal and external), and then conducting a 6C analysis to mitigate financing risks. The research conclusion is that risk mitigation is important in maintaining member trust and reducing the risk of financing problems at your BMT. The limitation of this research is that it does not use quantitative methods and only examines one BMT. It is hoped that the research can provide input for further research to develop the analytical methods used and increase knowledge for further research.

Abstract

Qanun Aceh No. 11 of 2018 mandates that all financial institutions transition to Sharia financial systems. The enactment of this Qanun has led to shifts in market dynamics and increased public trust in Sharia financial institutions. Consequently, this study aims to examine the impact of Qanun Aceh No. 11 of 2018 on the financial performance of Sharia banking in Aceh Province. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data published by the Financial Services Authority. The data pertains to key financial performance indicators of Sharia banking, including assets, financing, and third-party funds, both before and after the implementation of Qanun Aceh No. 11 of 2018. The data is analysed using paired sample t-tests. This research shows that the enactment of Qanun Aceh no. 11 of 2018 is the expected consequence of the existence of a Sharia banking monopoly in the region. This research shows that the enactment of Qanun Aceh no. 11 of 2018 is the expected consequence of the existence of a Sharia banking monopoly in the region. This policy forces all customers, whether individuals, businesses, corporations, or local government funds, to move their accounts from conventional banks to Sharia banks. Thus, the increase in Sharia banking assets and funds is more the result of the relocation of funds previously in conventional banks, not solely due to an increase in public preference for the Sharia financial systems. This finding highlights that the Qanun has enhanced public participation and trust in Sharia banking. The study provides crucial insights into the role of regulations in fostering the development of Sharia banking.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the governance of zakat funds at the Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) of Miftahul Huda Mosque, with an emphasis on the implementation of transparency and accountability principles. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with UPZ administrators and several zakat payers (muzaki), as well as documentation analysis of financial reports. The results indicate that the UPZ has established a governance structure covering the planning, implementation, distribution, and utilization of zakat funds. The UPZ has also implemented managerial transparency through the existence of standard operating procedures (SOPs), an organizational structure, and activity reporting. However, financial transparency—particularly in publishing financial reports to the public—remains suboptimal. In terms of accountability, financial records have been maintained in a detailed and systematic manner, yet openness of these reports has not been fully realized. These findings highlight the need to strengthen publication strategies and involve zakat payers in the evaluation process to enhance the professionalism and credibility of zakat fund management.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the suitability of musyarakah financing practices at BMT Saudara Grabag Magelang based on DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 08/DSN-MUI/IV/2000. Musyarakah financing is a collaboration between shahibul maal and mudarib that contributes positively to MSMEs. However, inconsistencies were found in practice, especially in terms of loss sharing and profit sharing calculations. Losses are not shared according to the proportion of each party's capital contribution, and profit sharing does not always reflect the agreed ratio. BMT Saudara also applies rescheduling to handle losses, which is contrary to the principle of musyarakah which requires proportional loss sharing. This study uses a descriptive method with interactive analysis techniques, based on primary data from interviews and observations of 1 teller, 1 manager, and 5 customer members. The results show that although sharia aspects such as ijab qabul, legal capacity, object of the contract, and dispute resolution have been implemented, there are still shortcomings in the implementation of profit and loss sharing. The study recommends that BMT Saudara adjust the practice to be more in accordance with sharia principles and the DSN-MUI fatwa.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyse the relationship between Islamic work ethics and employee work motivation at the DLH of Magelang Regency. In order to achieve the research objectives, this study uses a qualitative approach. Research data were collected using in-depth interviews. Interviews were conducted with one leader and five employees of the DLH Kabupaten Magelang. The research data were subsequently analysed using an interactive model, which has been validated using source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that Islamic work ethics can enhance employee work motivation. For example, in the principle of Tawhid, employees who believe that work is part of their religion have higher intrinsic motivation. In the principle of Balance and Justice, employees who receive trust and fairness from their superiors have higher extrinsic motivation. In the principle of Free Will, employees who have the freedom to express their opinions and tolerate discussions have higher intrinsic motivation. In the principle of Responsibility, employees who feel a sense of responsibility in carrying out their tasks and work have higher intrinsic motivation. In the principle of Virtue or Truth, employees who believe that instilling virtues such as honesty, discipline, and responsibility is part of religious commandments have higher intrinsic motivation.
