Abstract

This article's purpose is to further review Ibn Taimiyah's Islamic economic thought. This type of research is descriptive qualitative using a library research approach that describes primary and secondary references. The primary data source in this study is taken from the views of Muslim scholars, especially Ibn Taimiyah in his work on Islamic economics. The analytical method commonly used by other qualitative research adopts the Milles and Hubberman model which consists of grouping data, compiling, and drawing conclusions. In general, Ibn Taimiyah's Islamic economic thinking appreciates the importance of prices that occur because of the free market mechanism. He rejects any interference to suppress or fix prices thereby disrupting the free mechanism, except under certain conditions, such as monopoly, collusion, and rebellion which causes the distribution of goods to be not smooth, he allows the government to intervene in prices so that price stability is re-established.

Abstract

Bai’ as-sharf or the practice of exchanging foreign currencies (forex) from an Islamic legal standpoint is a relevant issue due to the rapid growth of Islamic economics. Currency exchange has become a common need among people. It arises from basic demands when trading across borders or staying in foreign countries. Since such transactions involve the exchange of money for money, which falls under the category of usurious items, it is important to examine the Islamic stance on this matter. Several types of forex or sharf transactions are prevalent, including spot, forward, swap, and option. However, it is essential to distinguish which of these are deemed permissible in Islamic finance and which are not, along with the justifications.

Abstract

The concept of property ownership in the Qur'an has two main dimensions: individual rights and social responsibility. The Qur'an emphasizes that wealth is a trust from Allah that can be owned personally, but its use must be in accordance with the principles of justice and the public good. This research uses a thematic interpretation method (tafsir maudhu'i), by collecting and analyzing Qur'anic verses related to property ownership, as well as considering historical context (asbāb al-nuzūl) and linguistic aspects. The results of the study show that Islam not only recognizes the individual's right to property, but also requires social responsibility, such as zakat, infaq, and the prohibition of hoarding wealth. Thus, the concept of ownership in Islam is not absolute, but is tied to ethical values and social justice. Property ownership is seen as a means to realize common prosperity and overcome social inequality. The emphasis on a balance between private property and social contribution reflects the main purpose of Islamic law in creating justice and benefit. Therefore, the concept of wealth in the Qur'an is an important foundation for the development of an economic system that is oriented towards value and balance.

Abstract

Contracts are the main foundation in all forms of muamalah transactions in Islam. The Qur'an as the main source of Islamic teachings has provided clear guidance regarding the principles and rules governing various types of contracts. This study aims to examine the verses of the Qur'an that are directly related to transaction contracts, both general and specific to certain types of transactions such as buying and selling, debts, and cooperation. The method used in this study is a qualitative study with a thematic interpretation approach (maudhu'i). The results of the study show that the Qur'an not only regulates the validity of contracts, but also guarantees justice, transparency, and willingness in transactions. This study is expected to be a conceptual reference in building a fair and sustainable Islamic economic system.

Abstract

This study examines the legal aspects of the Ijarah and Ijarah Muntahiyah Bit Tamlik (IMBT) contracts, two commonly used instruments in asset-based Islamic financing. The Ijarah contract refers to a lease agreement for the use of goods or services in exchange for a specified payment, while IMBT is an extended form of Ijarah that concludes with the transfer of asset ownership to the lessee at the end of the lease term. The objective of this research is to analyze the conformity of these contracts with Islamic legal principles (fiqh muamalah) and their implementation within Indonesia’s positive legal framework, including regulations issued by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI). This study employs a normative-juridical approach by analyzing fatwas, statutory regulations, and case studies on the application of Ijarah and IMBT contracts in Islamic financial institutions. The findings reveal that although both contracts have gained legitimacy under Sharia and national law, challenges remain in their practical implementation, regulatory supervision, and legal certainty. The study recommends enhanced awareness of Islamic legal principles, regulatory harmonization, and strengthened oversight mechanisms in the execution of Ijarah and IMBT contracts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) as an instrument of community welfare from the perspective of Maqashid Syariah, with a case study on BUMDes Putra Perintis in Bonto Baji Village, Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The problem formulation in this study includes: (1) The role of BUMDes in improving community welfare in various aspects of life; (2) Application of Maqashid Syariah principles in BUMDes management and programs; and (3) Challenges in implementing Maqashid Syariah principles and supporting factors for the successful implementation of Maqashid Syariah principles in BUMDes. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, with key informants consisting of the BUMDes Director, BUMDes business actors, and the local community. Data analysis was carried out based on the Maqashid Syariah approach which includes the material and spiritual dimensions of the community. The results of the study indicate that BUMDes Putra Perintis has implemented Maqashid Syariah principles in the management and implementation of its programs, which has a positive impact on improving community welfare both materially and spiritually. However, public understanding of the Maqashid Syariah concept remains limited, necessitating increased outreach. The main challenges include limited human resources and limited access to information. Despite this, the successful implementation of Maqashid Syariah in Bonto Baji Village is supported by the active role of the village government and community participation.
