Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of the market mechanism concept in Ibn Taimiyah’s Islamic economic thought, examine the role of the state and the hisbah institution in maintaining market justice, and explore the relevance of his ideas to contemporary economic issues and their implications for the development of modern Islamic economics. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method, analyzing relevant primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that Ibn Taimiyah had a profound understanding of market mechanisms, in which prices are naturally determined through the interaction of supply and demand without excessive intervention. The state, through the hisbah institution, plays a crucial role in preserving market stability and justice by enforcing business ethics and preventing harmful practices. Government intervention is justified only when market distortions lead to injustice. Ibn Taimiyah’s economic thought remains highly relevant to contemporary issues such as monopoly, inflation, wealth inequality, and the crisis of business ethics. Thus, his ideas offer a conceptual foundation for building an Islamic economic system that is just, ethical, and sustainable.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to learn more about the institutionalization of the Islamic economy in Indonesia, which is a fair economic system that works to preserve social and political life within bounds that don't jeopardize the general welfare. This study employs a method known as a literature review or literature study. The findings of this study show that external factors, such as the establishment of Islamic banks in other nations, trade missions, and preaching that facilitate the implementation of the Islamic economic system, have played a significant role in the history of Islamic economic thought and institutionalization in Indonesia. The internal aspect is public awareness, namely Muslim intellectuals' efforts to adopt an Islamic-based economic system among Indonesia's mostly Muslim population. With several laws controlling Islamic contracts and goods, institutionalization, and systems run by Islamic banks in Indonesia, the Islamic economy has up until now continued to grow. The growth of Islamic economic institutions, however, still falls short of Islamic financial literacy, where knowledge of Islamic economics is still quite poor.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the potential of the fisheries sector in Sambas Regency using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift-Share approaches, as well as to formulate management strategies to encourage economic growth in the Indonesia-Malaysia border region. With a qualitative approach, this research integrates normative-theological, sociological, and scientific analyses, using data from the 2015-2019 period collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using LQ, Shift-Share, and SWOT. The research results show that the fisheries sector is a leading sector with an average LQ value of 2.75, reflecting its ability to meet local and export needs, while the Shift-Share analysis reveals the competitive advantage of this sector in regional economic growth. This research produces strategic recommendations including the improvement of facilities and infrastructure, technology adoption, human resource development, and institutional strengthening. This result is expected to serve as a reference for local governments in formulating policies to optimize the fisheries sector as a driving force for the border economy. This study recommends improving fisheries facilities and infrastructure, adopting modern technology, and strengthening institutions and regulations to improve the competitiveness of the fisheries sector in Sambas Regency. In addition, human resource development through training and diversification of fisheries businesses needs to be done to improve the welfare of fishermen. Optimizing the trade and export of fishery products is also the main strategy in encouraging economic growth in the Indonesia-Malaysia border region.

Abstract

The export-import opportunities for various superior products from Sambas Regency through the Aruk PLBN are very high, especially with the presence of supporting government agencies and SOEs at the Aruk PLBN. So it is interesting to analyze further the cross-border trade in the Indonesia-Malaysia region in the Aruk PLBN area of Sambas Regency. This research is a type of field research that uses qualitative descriptive methods. The researcher tries to conduct an in-depth study by describing the phenomenon of cross-border trade that occurs at the Aruk Cross-Border Post. This will show the impact of the Aruk Cross-Border Post on the improvement of the Sambas Regency economy as a State Border Regency. At Aruk Cross-Border Checkpoint, cross-border trade activities are carried out in the Neutral Zone. This is because Malaysia still considers that cross-border trade is traditional trade, while the Indonesian government has recognized Aruk Cross-Border Checkpoint as an export and import crossing point. Currently, the obstacle to export-import faced at PLBN Aruk is the Indonesian government regulation regarding general exports. So PLBN Aruk only serves export activities while import activities still cannot be carried out. Furthermore, regarding the determination of Biawak status, Malaysia still considers it as traditional trade or only serving cross-border people. So that the export activities carried out by PLBN Aruk, the loading and unloading of goods is carried out at the zero point or Neutral zone. Trade transactions are still limited to raw agricultural and fishery commodities. The construction of the International Cargo Terminal facility has not been completed, and the port code for Aruk Cross-border Checkpoint has not been assigned, so it is not functioning as it should. Therefore, it is important to strive for Aruk Cross-border Checkpoint to be officially designated as an import-export gateway by the central government, so that Aruk Cross-border Checkpoint functions optimally.
