Abstract

In the digital era, streaming platforms have reshaped how students engage with English learning beyond the classroom by providing authentic and easily accessible input. They offer informal learning spaces that foster autonomy and continuous language exposure. This study explores the types of streaming platforms students use, how they practice listening through them, and the reasons behind their preferences. The researchers conducted a qualitative descriptive study involving 50 English major students who completed an online questionnaire and 10 students who participated in semi-structured interviews at a public university in Indonesia. The results reveal that students primarily rely on YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify, while Disney+ and Amazon Prime are less preferred due to subscription barriers. Participants practiced listening in different ways watching English films or series with or without subtitles, replaying specific scenes, listening to music and podcasts while noting new vocabulary, and reflecting on their comprehension. Their reasons for platform choice also varied: YouTube was valued for free access and flexibility, Netflix for authentic dialogue and cultural exposure, and Spotify for convenience during multitasking. These findings suggest that streaming platforms play a dynamic role not only as learning tools but as spaces where students independently regulate strategies, sustain motivation, and build listening proficiency in meaningful and personalized ways.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed the paradigm of da'wah in Indonesia, including among students. The phenomenon of digital da'wah is characterized by the use of social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and podcasts, along with the culture of "swipe and scroll" in information consumption. This research aims to analyze the forms, patterns, motivations, strategies, and impacts of digital da'wah carried out by students in the digital era. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection through digital content studies, namely the analysis of da'wah content produced and shared by students on various social media platforms. Thematic analysis was carried out to identify communication patterns, strategies, motivations, and impacts of digital da'wah. The results of the study show that students convey da'wah through visual, audio-visual, and interactive forms that are educational, persuasive, and inspiring. The motivation of digital da'wah students includes spiritual, social, and self-development, even though they face challenges such as popularity pressure, the risk of simplifying materials, and maintaining the value of sincerity. An effective digital da'wah strategy includes understanding the audience's character, choosing the right media, presenting creative and communicative content, and strong digital literacy. The impact of digital da'wah for students and pesantren is positive and significant, including expanding the reach of da'wah, improving the competence of students, and strengthening the image of pesantren as adaptive institutions, while at the same time creating ethical and strategic challenges that require guidance so that da'wah remains relevant and meaningful.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Tumbuh Mulia Village identified a major agricultural problem: low crop productivity due to a lack of environmentally friendly and affordable fertilizers. The village's abundant chicken manure has not been optimally utilized, potentially polluting the environment. The project aimed to process chicken manure into organic fertilizer for local farmers. The manufacturing process involved mixing chicken manure, rice husks, dolomite, molasses, and AM11 microbial activator as a decomposer, followed by fermentation for approximately one week without turning. The fermentation results showed significant physical changes, including a crumblier texture, a blackish-brown color, and a reduced odor, making it suitable for agricultural use. This solid organic fertilizer product was then tested on residents' chili plants, which showed improved growth compared to before. This project not only provided a solution to the problem of livestock waste but also increased the community's knowledge and skills in processing waste into environmentally friendly products. Thus, this program contributes to strengthening sustainable agriculture while strengthening the synergy between universities and the community.

Abstract

The phenomenon of poisoning in the Free Nutritious Food (MBG) program experienced by a number of school students in Indonesia has caused a critical discourse on educational governance, public health, and social ethics in the implementation of government programs. This poisoning incident that should not have occurred is an indicator of weaknesses in the surveillance system, policy implementation, and quality of food provided. To delve into this issue, the perspective of the renewal of Islamic thought from Muhammad Abduh can provide a relevant framework of analysis, especially related to moral responsibility, rationality, and social reform. Abduh, as an Islamic modernist figure, emphasized the importance of the use of common sense (al-'aql), social ethics, and educational reform as the foundation for the formation of a civilized society. In the context of the phenomenon of MBG poisoning, Abduh's thinking demands an integration between rationality and moral values in every public policy. He argued that the ummah and the government should not be trapped in a formalistic work pattern without ensuring substantive benefits for society. MBG programs, while well-intentioned to improve students' nutritional status and learning readiness, become counterproductive when the procurement, distribution, and oversight processes are not based on science, transparency, and accountability. Abduh emphasized that every policy must be based on the principles of maslahah (community welfare) and amanah (accountability), so that potential dangers such as poisoning must be anticipated through careful planning and scientific supervision. Abduh's thinking also assesses that education is not limited to academic aspects, but includes the formation of a healthy and safe social environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the history of the formation of ethnicity in a remote area of South Sumatra, specifically in Tanjung Pasir Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The background of this research is the limited number of academic studies addressing ethnic dynamics and the role of migrant communities in rural areas. The main issues discussed include the background of the emergence of the Arab ethnic group, patterns of social interaction with the local community, and the contributions of the Arab community to social, cultural, and religious life in Tanjung Pasir Village. This research employs a qualitative method with historical and sociological approaches. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and the study of relevant historical sources, and were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings indicate that the presence of the Arab ethnic group in Tanjung Pasir Village was closely linked to the role of religious figures who contributed to the spread of Islam. The process of assimilation, which occurred through social interaction and intermarriage with the local population, has resulted in the formation of a unique and harmonious community. The Arab-descendant community has made significant contributions to strengthening Islamic values, religious education, and the transmission of traditions and cultural practices that enrich local identity. These findings highlight the importance of interethnic interaction in rural areas in shaping cultural diversity and strengthening social cohesion within the community.
