Abstract

The dictionary is one of the important tools in language learning, including the Arabic language. An analysis of the components of this dictionary will provide a deeper understanding of its parts from the perspective of Dr. Ali Al-Qasimy. This study aims to analyze the components of the Saluni Wal Mutaradifat Wal Ma'ani Dictionary using a literature research method. The analysis results indicate that this dictionary still requires further improvements to reach the expected level of perfection. Nevertheless, it possesses adequate vocabulary completeness that can support vocabulary learning in the Arabic language, despite some components being incompletely fulfilled. A few enhancements and additions of specific features are needed for the Saluni Wal Mutaradifat Wal Ma'ani Dictionary to become a stronger resource for Arabic language learners. Although not perfect, this dictionary remains usable and beneficial for users in learning the Arabic language. This research solely conducted content analysis within the dictionary, hence it can still be developed further through subsequent studies such as testing effectiveness with quantitative studies by conducting direct field research.

Abstract

Background. Learning motivation is an important factor in educational success, including in learning Arabic at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kota Padang Panjang. The Al-Mumtaz app has been designed to support the learning process by offering interactive and engaging methods. However, the effectiveness of this application in increasing student learning motivation has not been studied much. Purpose. This study aims to examine the role of the Al-Mumtaz application in increasing students' motivation to learn Arabic at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kota Padang Panjang. The main focus of this study was to find out the extent to which such applications can affect student learning motivation. Method. This research uses quantitative methods with experimental design. The research sample consisted of 60 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kota Padang Panjang who were divided into two groups: an experimental group using the Al-Mumtaz application and a control group using conventional learning methods. Data were collected through learning motivation questionnaires before and after the intervention, as well as in-depth interviews to support quantitative data. Results. The results showed that there was a significant increase in student motivation in the experimental group compared to the control group. Students who use the Al-Mumtaz app show higher levels of motivation in terms of interest, activeness, and commitment to Arabic language learning. Conclusion. Al-Mumtaz application significantly increases students' motivation to learn Arabic at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kota Padang Panjang

Abstract

Advances in technology have a significant impact in various fields of life, one of which is in the field of dictionaries. Dictionaries today are not only in printed form but also many have been developed into digital form. In this study, researchers want to provide a better understanding of how technology affects language learning and use. The purpose of this study: 1) to find out what are the advantages and disadvantages of the Arabic-Indonesia dictionary application, 2) to find out the impact of the Arabic-Indonesia dictionary application in the learning process among Arabic speakers. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection techniques used are observation, interview, and documentation. The analysis technique used is a case study. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The population and sample in this study amounted to 11 people. Primary data sources are interviews in the form of questionnaires, and secondary data are journals, articles, books, and proceedings related to this research. The results of this study are the form of learning achievements with the Arabic-Indonesia dictionary application, as well as accessibility in searching for vocabulary meaning can be accessed anytime and anywhere using the Arabic-Indonesia dictionary application via mobile devices or computers, so that Arabic learning can run more efficiently.

Abstract

Mastery of speaking skills in learning Arabic often faces challenges related to student engagement and the effectiveness of traditional teaching methods. Conventional teaching methods are usually considered less attractive and unable to meet the learning needs of students effectively. This study aims to explore the use of multimedia based on a cognitive approach to improving students' speaking skills in the Special Arabic Language Learning Program (PKPBA) UIN Malang. Qualitative research methods were used, involving in-depth observations and interviews with students and faculty to collect data on the experience and impact of multimedia use. The results showed that multimedia designed with a cognitive approach significantly improved students' speaking skills, increased motivation, and enriched the learning experience. These findings make an important contribution to cognitive theory by demonstrating the practical application of multimedia in language learning, as well as providing guidance for educators in designing more effective learning materials. This research also emphasizes the need for inclusive technology development, attention to ethics, and the protection of users' data.   Keywords: Speaking Skills, Multimedia, Cognitive

Abstract

The best literary work of Mikhail Nuaimah is Hams al-Jufūn which is in the form of a poetry anthology. This work contains 44 poem titles depicting three major themes, namely personality, society, and nature. One of the poems featured in the anthology is titled At-Ṭumaʻnīnah. This study aims to examine (1) the outcomes of heuristic reading, (2) hermeneutic reading, and (3) the matrices, models, and hypograms within the poem At-Ṭumaʻnīnah by Mikhail Nuaimah through the lens of Michael Riffaterre's semiotic analysis. This literature study employs a qualitative descriptive research methodology. Data were sourced from Hams al-Jufūn by Mikhail Nuaimah. The data collection method involved reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's framework, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing through systematic heuristic and hermeneutic reading techniques. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) heuristic reading reveals that the poem depicts a person's resilient home, capable of withstanding various adversities; (2) hermeneutic reading indicates that the poem narrates an individual's attainment of profound peace of mind, fortified by a strong shield to confront life's challenges and fears; (3) the matrix of this poem conveys a sense of calm, while the model represents a strong shield of the heart, underscored by faith in qada and qadar, which cultivates inner tranquility. The hypogram of this poem connects to the hadith of Imam Thabrani from Abu Umamah. Abstrak Karya sastra terbaik dari Mikhail Nuaimah ialah Hams al-Jufūn yang berbentuk Antalogi puisi. Karya ini memuat 44 judul puisi dengan menggambarkan tiga tema besar yaitu ketokohan, sosial, dan alam. Salah satu judul puisi dari antalogi tersebut adalah At-Ṭumaʻnīnah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana (1) hasil pembacaan heuristik,  (2) pembacaan herme-neutik, dan (3) matriks, model serta  hipogram dalam puisi yang berjudul At-Ṭumaʻnīnah karya Mikhail Nuaimah dengan analisis semiotic Michael Riffaterre. Ini adalah penelitian kepustakaan menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari antologi puisi Hams al-Jufun karya Mikhail Nuaimah. Metode pengumpulan data berupa teknik baca dan catat, dan analisis data menggunakan analisis Miles dan Huberman berupa reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan melalui teknik pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik secara sistematis. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) hasil pembacaan heuristik puisi ini menceritakan rumah seseorang yang kokoh, dapat menahan untuk setiap bencana yang dihadapi; (2) hasil pembacaan hermeneutik dalam puisi ini adalah menceritakan seseorang mencapai ketentraman hati yang hebat dengan tameng yang kokoh untuk menghadapi segala macam kesulitan sampai pada ketakutan hidup; (3) matriks dari  puisi  ini  adalah rasa ketenangan, model dari puisi ini adalah tameng hati yang kuat dan percaya akan qada dan qadar membuat hati menjadi penuh ketenangan, dan hipogram  dari  puisi  ini berhubungan dengan hadist Imam Thabrani dari Abu Umamah

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of identity and marginalization in Anis Susan’s poem "As-salaam ‘alaikum" using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. Adopting a qualitative approach with content analysis, this study examines symbols and meanings that reflect identity and marginalization. The poem is the primary data source, while secondary sources include academic references on identity, marginalization, and Peirce’s semiotics. Data collection involves document analysis and identifying words, phrases, and sentences as symbolic elements. These symbols are categorized into three types: (1) Identity Symbols, representing cultural, religious, and ethnic aspects; (2) Marginalization Symbols, highlighting social discrimination and oppression; and (3) Social Criticism Symbols, addressing systemic or ideological issues. The study applies Peirce’s triadic model, analyzing the representamen (symbolic form), object (referenced concept), and interpretant (derived meaning). Findings reveal that the poem employs linguistic and semiotic symbols to reflect a collective identity deeply rooted in cultural and social contexts. Identity is expressed through religious and cultural references, while marginalization appears in language structures conveying victimization and protest. The poem also critiques social injustice through poetic imagery, emphasizing oppression within the existing system

Abstract

The shift in meaning and the formation of new terms in Arabic on social media and chat applications represent an important linguistic phenomenon in this digital age. This study aims to analyze how Arabic words undergo shifts in meaning and how new terms are formed through interactions on digital platforms. Using a literature review method, this research examines scholarly articles, books, and digital conversations from various sources such as WhatsApp and Instagram. The results show that communication via social media has driven changes in the meaning of everyday words, as well as the emergence of new terms often influenced by social, cultural, and globalization factors. Although this phenomenon enriches the Arabic language with new, more flexible, and expressive variations, there are also challenges in understanding word meanings, especially among generations not accustomed to digital language. The study concludes that the Arabic language in cyberspace continues to evolve in response to the demands of the times, although these changes may create difficulties in communication between generations. Further research is recommended to explore the impact of these changes on the structure of formal language and Arab cultural identity.

Abstract

This research discusses the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Arabic language education and the transformation of Arabic meaning through AI. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in Arabic language education. Using the library research method, this study collects and analyzes various relevant literature sources to understand how AI can improve the Arabic language learning process. The results show that AI can improve the effectiveness of Arabic language learning by providing an interactive, diverse, and engaging platform, as well as providing quick and accurate responses to students. However, the research also found that there are some challenges presented by AI, such as the limited validity of information and the potential for cheating. The research also highlights the importance of accessibility of digital learning resources and interactive learning experiences that can motivate students in learning Arabic. Therefore, this study recommends that AI should be used effectively and responsibly in Arabic language education.

Abstract

الاستماع، وتُحسّن مهاراتهم الفونولوجية، وتوسّع مفرداتهم، كما تشجع على التكرار الذاتي خارج الصف. فقد استطاع 70٪ من التلاميذ تقليد النطق بشكل جيد، وأظهر 40٪ منهم مبادرة ذاتية في التعلم دون توجيه من المعلم. كما أفاد أولياء الأمور بأنهم أصبحوا أكثر قدرة على مرافقة أبنائهم في عملية التعلم باستخدام هذه الوسيلة. وتدعم نتائج هذا البحث نظريات التعلم المتعدد الوسيلة (ماير)، واستقلالية المتعلم (هوليك)، والبنائية الاجتماعية (فيغوتسكي). ويوصي هذا البحث بتوسيع استخدام الوسيلة الصوتية القائمة على رمز الاستجابة السريعة في تعليم اللغة العربية لتعزيز مهارات الاستماع وبناء شراكة قوية بين المدرسة والأسرة.

Abstract

African literature reflects the continent’s rich tapestry of ethnic groups, languages, and cultures while offering complex perspectives on social realities including war, oppression, and discrimination. Literary sociology provides a valuable framework for comparative studies, revealing how different works represent these pressing social issues. This study examines how the poems “Huwa Summu” by Afnan Samir and the poem “Sa’anhadlu” by Noémia de Sousa represent both objective and subjective forms of social reality. The article explores and compares the social realities depicted in these two African poets’ works. Using a qualitative approach, the study draws on primary data from internet sources and secondary data from relevant journals and books. Data collection involved library research employing three primary techniques: reading, translation, and note-taking. The findings reveal that Afnan Samir’s “Huwa Summu” portrays objective social realities of oppression and religious themes while expressing subjective realities of sadness, confusion, lamentation, weakness, and disappointment. Noémia de Sousa’s “Sa’anhadlu” presents a contrasting, more optimistic perspective that emphasizes resistance, courage, and self-confidence despite addressing colonial oppression. This study contributes to scholarship through its comparative analysis of two Arabic-language African poems from different geographical, historical, and gender perspectives—an approach rarely explored in Indonesian literary studies. Future research should adopt an interdisciplinary approach, including deeper exploration of local political, cultural, and historical contexts.
