Abstract

Self-image in real life is often shaped through the interaction between personal identity and social pressures that influence how one should act. Self-image in a social context is not something static, but rather a result of dynamic construction. This study aims to analyze the self-revelation of Taufiq Al-Hakim as both an author and a character in the novel Himār Al-Hakīm. This research is qualitative in nature, employing a library research method and using literary texts as the object of analysis. The data source used in this study is the Arabic novel Himār Al-Hakīm by Taufiq Al-Hakim, published by Maktabah Misr in 1990 (147 pages). The data collection technique used is reading and note-taking. The researcher applies the data analysis model from Miles and Huberman, which includes three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, using Carl Thompson’s travel literature theory as an analytical tool. This research reveals three main narrative forms in the novel Himār Al-Hakīm by Taufiq Al-Hakim:(1) Forms of reporting the world (4 data),(2) Forms of revealing the self (4 data), and (3) Forms of representing the others (5 data). The novel reflects characteristics of postcolonial travel writing through subjectivity, self-reflection, and a quest for identity. Al-Hakim blends autobiographical elements with an entertaining and reflective style, while also engaging in othering by portraying Eastern culture as inferior and Western culture as superior.

Abstract

Developing Arabic writing skills, particularly in imla’ manzhur (dictated visual writing), requires effective strategies that engage students in both linguistic structure and practical application. This study investigates the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy supported by Arabic Scrabble media as an alternative approach to enhance students’ writing proficiency. Utilizing a quantitative experimental method, the research integrates observation, interviews, tests, and documentation to explore how cooperative learning combined with interactive media can improve students’ mastery of Arabic script, vocabulary, and sentence formation. The findings reveal that the TPS strategy, through its structured phases of individual thinking, peer discussion, and group sharing, provides an active and reflective learning environment. The addition of Arabic Scrabble as a visual and kinesthetic aid enriches students’ engagement with Arabic orthography and supports collaborative vocabulary construction. The study concludes that this integrated strategy fosters improved accuracy in connected writing and motivates learners to participate more confidently in Arabic writing activities.

Abstract

The trend of Arabic language learning needs today cannot be separated from the use of interactive technology-based multimedia, one of which is the Canva application, where lecturers can design Arabic language learning accompanied by video, sound, animation so that students are highly enthusiastic about the material provided. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the use of canva interactive design as an innovation in Arabic language learning at STAI Auliaurrasyidin Campus and the results of utilizing canva-based technology media for lecturers and students. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type and is descriptive in nature. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation and interviews. The research findings show that the Canva media used by lecturers has many features that help in the design of interactive Arabic language materials in class, such as making mufradat cards, making mufradat learning videos with Canva, and making online presentations via the Web. Some of the obstacles in using design in Canva are that educators still do not know how to create designs to make them look attractive, lack of stable signal when designing lessons, and limited infrastructure in applying interactive video media Canva. The way to overcome the obstacles is to hold socialization such as workshpp on the use of canva interactive media for all educators as a learning innovation. Furthermore, the use of canva media encourages the motivation and learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

Listening comprehension (maharah istima’) is a fundamental skill in Arabic language learning, yet its mastery often becomes a challenge in pesantren environments that still rely heavily on conventional teaching methods. This study aims to explore the implementation of short video media as an innovative approach to enhance istima’ skills among students at Pesantren Teknologi Majapahit Mojokerto. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with both teachers and students. The findings reveal that the use of short video media positively influences students’ listening skills, particularly in improving pronunciation accuracy, intonation, and contextual understanding. In addition, the integration of short videos fosters greater enthusiasm, motivation, and active participation in the learning process, which are often lacking in traditional pedagogical practices. Despite these benefits, several challenges were identified, including limited technological infrastructure, students’ difficulties in comprehending non-standard Arabic dialects, and restricted vocabulary mastery. These limitations suggest the need for careful content selection, adequate facilities, and continuous teacher training to optimize the effectiveness of short video-based instruction. The contribution of this research lies in highlighting the pedagogical potential of short video media as a practical and adaptive tool for Arabic language learning in pesantren contexts, bridging traditional methods with contemporary technological innovations. Ultimately, this study underscores the importance of integrating media-based approaches to ensure that Arabic learning remains effective, contextual, and aligned with the demands of modern education.

Abstract

This study investigates the problem of low learning motivation among female students in studying tashrif lughawī (Arabic morphology), a foundational yet often challenging subject in Arabic language education. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of the Wordwall digital platform as an interactive tool to enhance learning motivation at the Cyber Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative descriptive method, the study involved 22 female students who participated in eight instructional sessions integrating Wordwall-based quizzes and games. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on a four-point Likert scale, focusing on indicators of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The analysis applied the Total Respondent Achievement (TCR) technique to determine the level of motivation improvement. The findings revealed that the use of Wordwall significantly boosted students’ learning motivation, with an overall achievement rate of 77.35%, classified as “very good.” Both intrinsic aspects (such as increased interest, engagement, and self-confidence) and extrinsic factors (including peer competition and recognition) showed substantial improvement. These results indicate that Wordwall provides an engaging and competitive learning environment that supports the mastery of Arabic morphology. The study contributes to Arabic language pedagogy by demonstrating the potential of gamified digital platforms to address motivational challenges. It recommends broader integration of interactive educational technology in Arabic instruction, especially in pesantren contexts, to create learner-centered and technology-enriched classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the main obstacles in creating an Arabic language environment and to discover solutions to them in light of Vygotsky’s theory. The approach used in this study is qualitative. The researcher collected data from various sources and employed multiple tools for data collection, including interviews, observations, and document reviews. The researcher obtained the following results: by adopting Vygotsky’s theory, especially the concepts of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), scaffolding, and the importance of social interaction, this study identified appropriate solutions to overcome these challenges, including: (1). The limited use of Arabic in students’ daily lives. (2). The lack of interaction with native Arabic speakers. (3). The diverse motivations of students in learning Arabic. (4). Difficulties in understanding Arabic structure and grammar. The proposed solutions to address these challenges include: (1). Scaffolding – teachers should provide gradual guidance by applying Arabic grammar in speech and requiring its use in certain situations, such as classrooms and all institute activities. (2). Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) – applying role-play methods, where students practice becoming speakers in contexts such as interviews, presentations, or conversations in a communication style similar to native speakers. (3). Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) – forming small study groups, where students with better understanding guide those still in the early stages of learning, thereby increasing motivation through interaction with more proficient peers. (4). Social interaction – employing discussion-based learning methods, such as Q&A among students and practical exercises in the form of conversations to strengthen their understanding of Arabic grammar. The application of the ZPD concept allows students to develop their Arabic language skills through guidance from teachers or more competent peers. At the same time, scaffolding provides gradual support until students can use the language independently. Moreover, social interaction is considered a key element in forming an effective language environment.

Abstract

The advancement of technology in the current era has led most students to prefer watching educational stories on smartphones rather than reading stories in books. This presents a challenge for educators to create technology-based educational videos. The lack of understanding of technology among educators makes learning media less engaging, which can decrease student motivation. This research aims to assist educators in utilizing animated video media to create enjoyable learning experiences for students. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, where the researcher seeks to describe the utilization of animated video media in Arabic language learning at Al Maahira International Islamic Boarding School Malang. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. The data is then reduced, compiled, sorted, presented, and concluded. The results of the study indicate that animated videos can attract students' interest, helping them focus on the material taught by the teacher and making it easier to understand the content because students tend to be interested in engaging and visual images. The use of animated videos has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include making learning more interesting, increasing student motivation, and providing flexibility. The disadvantages include limited resources and the potential for student dependency. To maximize the use of animated videos, schools need to provide adequate facilities, offer training to teachers, and use animated videos in balance with other teaching methods.
